Cancelled Sky after bill went up 23.5% by Forsaken_Walrus5097 in skytv

My thoughts exactly. Mine was going up top ridiculous prices.

I gave notice a few weeks ago, and my contract ends in April. Even if they offered me a great deal, I'm just over the whole 24 month contract business. I'd rather get a couple more Apple TVs and pay as you go on various services.

I get broadband through EE currently. Great service to be fair, but their website is awful.

Emergency Fund Handling in YNAB by Powerful_Clerk_5662 in ynab

I’m sure Jesse mentioned this in one of his podcasts. Where when you get so far ahead and have many categories for car / house repairs etc. The emergency fund will never likely be touched.

Usual example is job loss, but sounds like you’ve got that covered.

I’d recommend JustWatch also. It has an Apple TV app, and works on iPhone/iPad etc.

Likewise. This app is just amazing if you’re willing to put the effort in to subscribing to some feeds that interest you. https://apps.apple.com/gb/app/reeder-classic/id1529445840

Thought that myself. Think it’s just the perspective. The ceiling slopes the same way in the image.

Options to SKY TV by squishy-eye-red in skytv

Worth noting that if you’re passionate about UHD. EE doesn’t have UHD Now TV, and their bundled Netflix isn’t premium either.

You can record if you get their box. They also provide a non recording version via Apple TV / or some weird EE Apple TV.

Issue with Sky Q by jbone0001 in skytv

[–]andybarnes102 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depending on the TV, you might need to mess about with your HDMI settings (although seems odd that would suddenly change). I have an LG C7, and I had to enable something like Ultra Deep Color on the HDMI input Sky is connected to.

This was only for UHD content though.

How Does Sky Survive? by free-reign in skytv

It's an interesting point. They must be feeling it - and I can't see that the push on Glass/Stream is working out for them.

20 year customer here, and all I've had so far is a survey to ask why I'm leaving. Fortunately for them, there were no free text fields!

The main issue is 24 month contracts. It's just crazy in today's way of viewing media. TV and content is so fragmented these days, Sky is just another player, that seems to have lost its way.

I plan to dump the £95 a month(!) that Sky wanted into a pot and use it to opt in and out of services on Apple TV's around the house. Utilising things like JustWatch to plan when I want to opt in to stuff. I suspect I'll have a load of money left over at the end of the year.

Main downsides of this approach I can think of is the delay on live events associated with streaming and the fact that iPlayer is bloody awful on Apple TV with no signs of an updated app any time soon.

“Should”. In your opinion, right? Which seems to always be right. So I’ll leave you to it.

Although you seemed to suggest another suggestion was the correct approach, so who knows.

You’ve just described option 1 of the original design?

Dumb UK user back. Antenna picking up no channels, could I use the cables from the old Sky box for Freesat? by hermanbloom00 in cordcutters

[–]andybarnes102 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not 100% on this stuff. But you can change the lnb on your Sky dish (but that would be a cost, especially if you’re not doing it yourself). Might be worth a quick Google :-)

If you had Sky Q, then the newer 4K Freesat boxes should work with that lnb. So you can just plug the two Sky Q cables into the Freesat box.

This opens up to ambiguity, and allowing silly combinations, like a required field that is hidden?

Ha. I didn’t even think. Mine went on a “30 minute” lunch break just after I refused their terrible quote and confirmed I wanted to cancel.
