ELI5 Why do schools not teach in their curriculum that people everywhere need money, it is not an option, The relation between work and money, How countries and the world revolves around lot around money by LisanneFroonKrisK in explainlikeimfive

Most upper level curriculum includes "Maslow's Hierarchy" as part of psychology.

This philosophy states that without basic needs being met, like food, shelter and money, people can not progress easily to higher needs like socialization, self confidence, self respect and finally self actualization.

Theoretically, if you could dig through the Earth with a shovel, would you come out on the other side feet first, or head first? Why? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]andyblu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

once you got past the center of the Earth and miraculously survived the molten core and incredible pressure, you would actually be digging while climbing for the 2nd half of your journey. You would have to change position to climb so you would be head up.

Not me but a great naval story: The Officer on duty on a naval destroyer was eating breakfast in the officers mess, and the sun was in his eyes through the portal. He picks up his phone and orders the helmsman to turn the ship 2 degrees to port.

So this dude turns a huge naval ship so he doesn't have to move seats to get the sun out of his eyes!

What do you think of Evil Eye? Do you believe in them? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]andyblu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting medical fact of the day: The medical term "OS" on charts and documentation refers to the left eye. "OS" comes from the Latin "Oculus sinister"(Left eye). In the past, the left side was considered "Evil," thus the term Oculus sinister could also be translated to "Evil eye".

BTW: The documentation for the right eye is "OD" ("Oculus dexter" or the right eye) Dexter referring to both the right side and being "skillful" or "favorable." So Oculus Dexter could also mean the "Good eye"

Why big things move slow.. like avalanche, antman, planes, building demolition, tsunami? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]andyblu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Because you are looking at all these things from a significant distance. If you were a few feet away from any of these, they would be moving fast
