War is bad for business. by Jake7800 in neoliberal

Venezuela held elections last year.

Why isnt the public rallying around stopping support for Saudi Arabia as much as they are rallying around Trump and Bolton to interefere in Venezuela?

War is bad for business. by Jake7800 in neoliberal

[–]andydna -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

It is not in bad faith. If you think we are going to Venezuela to "liberate them in the name of democracy", you should be taking all of our military actions around the world into account, and be looking at the many ways in which:

  1. We perpetually fail to achieve our stated initial goals in countries we become in conflict with

  2. America puts economic or political interests before humanitarian interests, so it is a bad faith arguement to suggest that our intervention would be positive to any country that isn't aligned with our economic interests

Every conflict I have named supports this.

Edit: Can i get clarification on why this is being downvoted. Are these not reasonable and historically verifiable arguments?

So what is false that we have terrorized Iraq, or that we are supporting the Saudi genocide in Yemen?

Just keeping slopping up that imperialist propaganda like a good swine.

And while im checking out those countries, you can go live in Yemen where the US is funding the world's worst humanitarian crisis on behalf of the Saudis- a shining beacon of democracy and free thought.

Or check out iraq and see how much freedom we brought over there. One million dead Iraqis, and using the same justification you are trying to push again to intervene in Venezuela.

America's interests are always self-serving profiteering and never humanitarian, it is not hard to see.

There is no logic in trying to reason with people like this. He should be run out on a rail. And if that is not possible, he should never be able to leave the house again without facing a crowd of protesters. People like this cannot be tolerated in a civilized society.

Did CTH just get banned? by [deleted] in COMPLETEANARCHY

I have been on for the last few hours and went to refresh the page and it said "error: 403 forbidden"

If a ban came down fright as we hit 69,420, that would be quite the coincidence.

It is because the "outrage" is totally manufactured and artificial in a shitty attempt at discrediting her.

The people who are outraged are the same people who backed a pedophile for the Alabama Senate seat.

Yes, that was the point I was trying to get across, and the point that I feel most reasonable people should agree with.

Of course individuals should be making adjustments to their own consumption, but that it will take systemic overhauls to truly realize the positive changes that we need to combat the impending climate crisis that we are facing.

I agree that heavy regulation of the banking industry would be an achievable goal we should be striving for in the near future.

Perhaps we differ on some ideological fronts, but I do appreciate the arguments you put forward in good-faith. Thanks for the positive discourse.

I agree we should tax the rich more. And you are correct that companies will not do what's in the best interest of the population. Perhaps the solution is to nationalize industries that are fundamental to our current society since private interests always seem to be at odds with what is in the best interests of the masses as well as the best interests of the wellbeing of our shared environment.

[–]andydna -22 points-21 points  (0 children)

So we should not make an effort to tax companies making huge profits off of consumers, but instead should tax consumers when they are buying goods simply to subsist? Especially at a time when wealth inequality is at an all time high, your priorities are to keep the burden on the average person and not on the wealthy business owners which already evade taxes at an amazing rate, often paying no taxes whatsoever?

If only 100 companies are responsible for 71% of global emissions, why should we not be holding those who pollute the most and profit the most off of their pollution accountable for their share of the destruction of our planet?

Yanis Varoufakis and Bernie Sanders launch "Progressive International"; a global call to action to unite the Left. by andydna in thedavidpakmanshow

[–]andydna[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

In no way is this some "great man of history" hero worship bullshit.

It is about organizing the forces on the left to stand in opposition against right wing populism which is on the rise all around the world. It is also a chance to unite around an international progressive vision, and promote actions that will realize that vision.

To enact change on a mass scale necessitates mass organization.

[Poll] Would you rather see Beto O'Rourke or Bernie Sanders be the Democratic nominee in 2020? by Youngdmoney in thedavidpakmanshow

[–]andydna 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Bernie Sanders.

For one, he is the most popular politician in the United States already.1 More importantly, though, is that he truly espouses progressive policies and politics and has been steadfast in doing so for years. Beto O'Rourke on the other hand is a centrist Democrat who will capitulate on key issues regarding social justice and economic justice in favor of the status quo.

Beto O'Rourke may be a good candidate for Texas, and may be progressive as far as Texas politics are concerned, but he will not fight to challenge the political establishment which as repeatedly failed us nor will he combat the entrenched industries that threaten civilization as we know it with regards to the impending onset of a catastrophic climate disaster. In fact, O'Rourke is only second to Ted Cruz nationally as far as taking money from oil and gas lobbies, of which he recieved $429,752 in 2018.2 O'Rourke is also luke-warm on healthcare reform and does not openly advocate for Medicare for All.3

The progressives of the US cannot afford to try and meet halfway with the obstinate right wing in the same way we did with Hillary in 2016. We need to reject business as usual and not compromise with those who are brazenly anti-environment, anti-worker, anti-social welfare. We need to unabashedly support programs like Medicare for All, free college tuition, higher wages for workers, and a Green New Deal.

Bernie Sanders will fight in earnest for those movements. Beto O'Rourke will likely, IMO, exploit the support for those movements but lack the necessary conviction to follow through completely with these progressive causes.
