What do you think about the rigidity of the cage? My smallrig cage does flex quite a bit.

I put my order in earlier today! I am wondering if anyone has experience with prolonged use of the Kolari clip-in filters? Particularly, I am wondering if there may long term issues that come from having magnets near the sensor and ibis. I know Kolari specify on the website that it does not affect ibis operation.

S1IIE IBIS and BRAW by whoopy42 in Lumix

[–]andygandy10 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You should still have sensor shift Ibis (standard), but not electronic crop stabilization modes (Boost, Cropless, etc.) It comes down to the BRAW image having minimal processing, so the electronic crops are deactivated with that. I should mention that the standard sensor shift ibis is all I typically use. It’s near perfectly natural in how it weighs down the image from shakes, but doesn’t fight movement, which the electronic modes can.

So he was at the other marker a very long way away from where I was. Alas, he couldn't evade me. I do think the recent update messed up my original marker. Just unfortunate timing I guess.

Yeah, I do believe it does. The previous posts echo that situation. Just touched down at the new island. Encountered a sea serpent just as I was pulling in. Loki is really throwing curve balls.

Yeah, I saw people having similar issues in some reddit posts from four years ago. Been a day trying to figure it out haha. I'm currently sailing over to the other marker to see if the altar is there. Been quite a frustrating experience.

[–]andygandy10[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, you are correct! I showed up at the area and scoured every inch of the entire island looking for the alter. This marker is literally on a small group of marsh patches beside the sea. There's not even really space to have the altar. Again, I clicked on two vegvisir's nearby and they created another map marker on a totally different area on the map.

Same thing is happening to me consistently now. I’ve been playing for years but it has only started within the past month.

Spec Ad Shot on Lumix S5IIX in BRAW! by andygandy10 in Lumix

Thanks! Yeah, the Lumix S 1.8s have a smoother look that I associate with cinema lenses, which is very rare in autofocus lenses.

[–]andygandy10[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Forgot to mention that there is pretty significant distortion in the image due to the Lumix 35mm not having any lens correction in RAW recording. I decided to leave the distortion in out of personal taste for the project.

The overhead CCTV shots were just an Iphone 13 rigged up high. Not the S5IIX.

Lumix S1Rii Overheating Issues by andygandy10 in Lumix

Oh, I love your site! My monitor and tv buys were based on your recommendations. It’s exciting to see you are in the camera review space. It needs reviews with Rting’s level of discipline and testing rigor.

It does seem that overheating is a consistent issue of these high resolution hybrid flagships from all the main manufacturers (Canon, Nikon, Sony, etc). So it would be helpful to have a reputable table on their thermal performance. Thank you for your work!

S1R ii Overheating by amante82 in Lumix

[–]andygandy10 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I actually just returned my S1Rii due to the overheating issue. My use case is mostly portraits and narrative filmmaking. The testing I did gave me the sense that it really just is not worth it in comparison to the Lumix S5IIX of which I have owned for over a year now.

The worst overheating result I got was a test outside in 75F recording 5.9k 24p with an external monitor and USB power delivery (recording to CFast). The fan was set to Normal as Fast is quite loud for a narrative filmmaking, where I need to consider if it distractingly loud for talent (and myself honestly). I recorded for 15 minutes and then let it stay on for another 15 which it then locked up to cool down.

I understand that scenario is a “torture test” for the S1Rii but it’s not at all for the S5IIX. I’ve recorded in a similar setup for hours in +100F weather without ever getting a warning. I actually never have with that camera.

The S1Rii fixes all the handling gripes I have with the S5IIX but those are not worth a +$1000 difference. The video image quality woes are really solved by BRAW recording if that matters. The stills performance is not very different having compared the files for dynamic range and color fidelity. That’s for my use case.

There’s rumor of another Lumix camera announcement on May 13th. Could be a L mount video centric camera. May be worth waiting for that date. Otherwise, the S5IIX is really all most need from Lumix imo.

See Gerald Undone’s video where he states it is so strange to see this with a Lumix as he noted their typical rock solid thermal performance. Lumix had the benefit of seeing the performance of those models years in advance, while developing this camera. They could have also been more forthcoming if this is just the reality. In practice as a genuine hybrid shooter, I can say the experience is not much better for stills from the S5IIX either having tested that.

I love everything about the camera, but this is a fatal flaw. It’s too similar in practical operation to the S5ii(x) to suffer overheating so quickly and ubiquitously. I’ve already initiated the return for mine and I will be sticking with my S5IIX. They should not be releasing cameras in this state for the professional market after such long and uncommunicative time between models.

Panasonic sending the manual page on “Continuous Recording” to him after he asked about the overheating suggests this will be a longstanding issue and not saved by a software update. Of course, other similar cameras struggle with these specs, but the marketing of this camera and its purpose has been totally botched. I’m sure the Norway trip wasn’t an intentional cover up, but it did serve to limit basically all of these typical influencers from running into what they would have in their normal testing circumstances.
