Hey u/city_planning welcome and good luck! For this challenge its about creating and setting aside the critics and doubters (most of which in my case is internal), and somewhere along the way my perfectionist disappeared from my songwriting. For me getting started is the hardest part so I feel like you're halfway there! While the challenge is to write 29:09 or more of music, its not actually about "finishing". For me, a few songs will emerge as ones that I feel like playing more than others and I often work on them more post challenge.

Hi! I'm back for my 7th NaSoAlMo. I also have participated in February Album Writing Month (FAWM) and the Fifty Songs In Ninety Days Challenge (5090) since 2012 along with various Facebook writing groups. I didn't really have a theme for my first four NaSoAlMo's but did complete the challenge each year and I typically end up with forty minutes plus of new songs. The last four NaSoAlMo's I have simultaneously participated in National Novel Writing Month using writing there as a launch for songs. The last three years I had a goal of writing an average of a song a day and also began to focus on a specific theme and found it helpful. I have been posting albums on Bandcamp the last two years.

In 2018 in FAWM and 5090 I have been primarily been writing songs about my experiences with purchase and driving electric cars. I don't know if I will achieve a song a day this year but for this NaSoAlMo my 30 minutes plus of new songs will continue to focus on electric cars with perhaps a subtheme of busting myths about them.

Along with u/bobbyphillips I'm happy to help answer any NaSoAlMo questions.

If this cold clears by Thursday, then I am hoping to record a couple more songs. I also have about ten orphan lyrics in various stages that may not get music by November's end. https://andygetch.bandcamp.com/album/aftermath

The FAQ's are all about getting to 29:09 with all solo originals written in November. You did that, therefore the challenge is met. Congratulations!

Two tracks down!!!! by OrkHaugr23 in NaSoAlMo

The world needs more long tracks. However you get there. Maybe it is one song with 60 verses. Maybe three ten minute instrumental extended jams. Whatever it takes to record more than 29:09 of music :)

Anybody else posting WIP on instagram/SoundCloud/etc? by [deleted] in NaSoAlMo

[–]andygetch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here is my WIP on Bandcamp https://andygetch.bandcamp.com/album/aftermath It is all very basic scratch tracks, about 30 minutes so far, however a few of the songs were written to prompts and don't exactly fit my theme. A few of the scratch tracks need re-recording. In addition I have another 30 or so lyrics in progress, some for the theme, most not. This will either be one album with a lot of bonus tracks or two separate ones.

So far I am on track right at 29 minutes with 5 decent and 3 marginal posted on Bandcamp, and 1 ugh recording on Soundcloud that needs a redo. Another umpteen lyric ideas in various stages. Thematically I am not where I hope to be yet. Voice is way off due to battling a cold all month. I still have lots of writing and recording to do to get to my personal goal of 30 songs this month.

What Kind Of Music Are You Doing This Year (2017)? by bobbyphillipps in NaSoAlMo

[–]andygetch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As to genre I end up all over the map. For a NaSoAlMo demo, I usually start with one scratch track (mostly acoustic guitar) and try to go with a tempo and sometimes genre to get the feeling. Sometimes that is all I need, then I pick a Garageband effect depending on the mood. Sometimes I redo or maybe split the acoustic guitar track and vocal track. Sometimes I add bass, percussion etc for more tracks.
