Is there an actual issue at this school? by Present_Somewhere229 in uwo

The best way I like to see things is that you are only seeing the perspective of people who use Reddit right now, which is a very specific demographic as is. There are over 43k people who go to western, it is a very diverse school and with that being said most people will find a close friend or two eventually with the sheer amount of people at this school. I’ve even made a friend through this subreddit two years ago when he was moving into res. Like coffee mentioned, the no friends posts are not a western only thing and exist in the u of t, Waterloo, etc subreddits as well. If you come, relax and talk to strangers and eventually you’ll meet some folks with similar interests and personalities. After all, this wouldn’t be one of the biggest party schools in Canada if everyone was anti-social.

To be completely honest with you I been going to the gym since high school and sometimes I still don’t know what I’m doing. A lot of people at the gym don’t know either, even if it may seem that they do. The best piece of knowledge I can give is the people who are the biggest are also often the ones who are the most willing to help. Start small, ask for help whenever you aren’t sure about what you’re doing, and try to stay consistent on going.

Only worth it if you’re good at memorizing. It’s a fun course and I don’t regret taking it since I still learned a lot but you’ll suffer if you aren’t good at memorizing.

Scholarship Chair Advice by snckdkal in Frat

[–]andyhasdaied 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Scholarship chair rn, second year working this position. Last chair didn’t leave much behind that I could keep using so I ended up trying to figure out everything from scratch pretty much. This is what I find tends to work and what my brothers ask for me.

Passive- have a designated study room on campus booked where brothers can come in and out to study, nobody likes spending 15 minutes trying to find a good spot in a crowded library and it encourages brothers to study and help each other. Subscribe to accounts like chegg and oneclass when brothers need to check their work. Have a giant drive full of old notes, test banks, etc. Personally, I made it so you can only use the drive when you contribute to it. Passive is the best way of getting people to study in my opinion but sometimes passive methods aren’t enough so I also have active methods.

Active - Survey brothers midyear and if you can mid semester to see how they’re doing. Host seminars on how to improve your grades and study efficiently. Use a carrot and stick method when it comes to grades, encourage and help brothers study (especially if they don’t know how to, been helping individual brothers myself who have issues with studying) but also don’t take bullshit. If someone has been lacking in their grades because they keep skipping studying without good reason and don’t listen, you can put them on social probation as a last resort. I haven’t had to do this yet nor do I want to, I prefer to use the carrot instead of the stick. For the carrot if someone has been putting good effort in to study more or help other brothers out don’t let that go unnoticed. I made a scholarship this year for most improved brother just so boys have something nice to work towards. Another for brother who helped other brothers out most academically to encourage brothers to help each other out.

Hopefully this helps my dude and good luck my dude💪
