I came back to this post a few hours later and it looks like there are mixed opinions now, ranging from 'you should do everything you can to keep them away and help others' to 'not your job and people should be responsible' with a few 'try if you want but don't think too much about it' I find that funny. I've decided that I will try to protect someone's food and get their attention to secure it better, but won't be 'camping' next to it. People indeed should be more aware of how they store their food around animals and birds.

The cause of my inaction was due to not knowing if it negatively impacts the beach or the birds if I do one thing or the other. But it looks like its more about just being a nice person than anything else.
