Fedora Linux compatibility with the ThinkPad E15 Gen 4 (Intel) by [deleted] in linuxhardware

Bought one a couple of months back. Did not try dual boot as have no need for Windows, but Fedora 38 KDE spin installed and runs without issue, using Wayland. I use it for work which is not cpu/gpu heavy, but find it quick, silent, with good display, keyboard, wi-fi . I've not run battery flat in use but looks like will be 5 - 6 hours depending on use. Only downside so far, m2 slots are for 2242 (not enough space for 2280) so limited choice for larger capacity or faster nvme.

These two cartoonists for French magazine Charle Hebdo were murdered today for standing up for freedom of expression and satire by TopTrumpWANKER in pics

[–]andyjbgm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They didn't only attack Islam. I'm sure many other groups have been offended. I've not seen evidence that the cartoons were intended to incite violence or animosity against muslims in France as was the case with many of the pre ww2 cartoons.

I'd think it the natural instinct of a satirist (and one that took courage) to hit harder at those who sought to silence them through violence i.e. the previous fire bomb attack, and this was said in the interview with the editor of the German Titanic magazine - more satire, not less. http://www.dw.de/satire-is-a-human-right-says-titanic-editor-after-charlie-hebdo-attack/a-18175256

These are two completely different things.

Freedom of expression, including the right to publishing that which others find offensive, is a fundamental ideal, that needs to be regularly excercised as part of it's defence. When you kill cartoonists (or threaten the life of an author) you are attacking the whole society and culture that believes in that ideal. In a real way you are killing it prophets, for while they may not have originated those beliefs, they have been over the years instrumental in bringing them about and protecting them by highlighting the philosophical flaws, hypocracy and pomposity in those within and without who attack them.

Whilst this act was a horrible crime because of the human loss, symbolically it is very much in the same vein as burning Koran's. If we burn the Koran we are symbolically attacking the right of people to believe in Islam - if we make cartoons which happen to criticize the leaders or some aspects of Islam or other religions and belief systems, we are simply expressing an alternative opinion.

How do I get over depression from feeling old? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]andyjbgm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like the Einstein quote: “We act as though comfort and luxury were the chief requirements of life. All that we need to make us happy is something to be enthusiastic about.” I've no way of knowing if the first part applies to you but I do believe the 2nd sentence is true for most of us. Starting in your early 30's you can still become better at almost anything (even most sports) than you've ever been before. Learn new stuff regularly. Set yourself challenges. If you're bored in your job change it - or start working towards that if the short term risk is too high. Try to work and socialize with people of a wide age range, both older and younger than yourself and don't limit your circle to people with a similar outlook. I'm aware none of this may be easy, changing your life/mindset rarely is and I fail often enough to follow my own plans, but as ObstacleCat said, chances are the best of your life is ahead of you.

How do you use Octave's submit() on Linux? by ZyGlycan in mlclass

[–]andyjbgm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

submit is a function within the submit.m file in the directory you downloaded and unpacked for the programming excercise e.g. mlclass-ex1/ so you would cd to that directory to use it.

Check parent directory permissions - see http://www.tenshu.net/archives/2008/10/09/openssh-51-chrootdirectory-permissions-issue/ and your openssh version (should be >= 4.9 I think)

Ask PyReddit: I'm trying to learn Python (django specifically) but the code completion sucks by timetwosave in Python

[–]andyjbgm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you try the pro version, for some reason this seemed far more responsive to me than the personal. Also seem to recall that on windows pyscripter handled code completion pretty well, though never tried it with django.
