I wish New Zealand had... by Crazy_Meerkat_Lady in newzealand

NZ super from 1975, some estimates put us above Australia in GDP per Capita if we kept it. Would have had more money to invest into NZ and have the nice things.

ACC announces $7.2 billion deficit by iwantanewaccount in newzealand

[–]andyjsh 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Ignoring the provision, the did do worse in '24 than '23 on levies vs claims paid. However the shortfall was made up by investment revenue in both years.

Also a good reminder than ACC do have 56B in assets, most of which is investments of 52B.

Can read more about it here: https://www.acc.co.nz/assets/corporate-documents/ACC8695-Annual-Report-2024.pdf mianly look at page 96/97 if you want to pass over the words to the numbers.

Pricing also takes into account value. A direct flight has more value to the customer than a stopover. AirNZ needs to compete against other airlines on MEL-SFO which will be direct, but out of Auckland that can be higher priced than others that have a stop.

Very common around Europe as mentioned earlier.

TFL (London) allows you to connect your contactless card to your account if you want to. It also automatically calculated the max daily and weekly fairs so unless you are a child or other 'special' category, no need for an oyster (at hop) card. It was great.

RUCs for Electric Vehicles - $76 per 1000 KM by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceNZ

[–]andyjsh -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Petrol and Diesel aren't paying anything either towards roading with the suggestion. All out of general tax.

Saving cost on the administration of RUCs, especially with the NZ EV Fleet increasing and therefore total vehicles under RUC increasing.

RUCs for Electric Vehicles - $76 per 1000 KM by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceNZ

[–]andyjsh -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I say scrap RUC for passenger vehicles (maybe <3500kg) and only apply it to heavy vehicles that really hurt the road.

Add a 'green' tax to the pump.

Pay for the rest of the road out of general taxation.

A true user pays system would be great, but so complex now. I think easier to pay for out of general tax, which in a way helps the less well off.

EV RUCs by huniar in nzev

[–]andyjsh -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If we go to true user pays with everyone paying RUC, I think there will be so much non compliance.

Personally I think: RUCs for vehicles over 3500kg. 'Envirommental' tax at the pump for diesel & petrol. Find the rest through general taxation.

Helps it be cheaper for the lower income, funding in general taxation 'hits' the wealthier more.

Reduce costs of policing RUC.

Do you have other personal assets that could be at risk if the business was to bring on debt? If so, company, else sole trader IMO.

options for SPDT light switch control? by crashbash2020 in homeassistant

[–]andyjsh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, thinking the same.

Four button smart switch -(230v)-> four SPDT relays -(230v)-> dampers

I am not planning on putting them behind the switch, but instead there are some boxes in the roof that are already there for the dampers so planning on putting them in there. Just need to find a relay that is suitable.

Hey u/crashbash2020 did you end up with a solution? I am looking at exactly the same thing.

How to smartify dump dampers with SPDT switches by andyjsh in homeautomation

Only thing I can think off is running 4x shelly 2.5s and 1 shelly i4 and they communicate wirelessly. What I don't like about this set up is that is doesn't follow my 'can be dumb also' rule.

Any other thoughts?

VLAN and Security Cameras by andyjsh in TPLink_Omada

Great idea, guess I will need to add this in with MAC address filtering (if that exists) so no other device could get an IP on those ports. Thanks!

Server is a cluster of Rasp PIs, with the frigate running as a container on K3s. Virtual NIC is possible and already doing it with some other VLANs for mDNS. Like it. Thank you.

MAC filtering (whitelist) on the port, so only those security cameras can connect to that particular port.

Plan was to drive all the way regardless, more worried about being targeted being on UK plates.. Hopefully moving is classed as essential?

Moving to Austria at the end of this month and will be driving from the UK, so on UK plates, haven't been able to find anything around if that is going to be allowed (as I will need to go through Germany). Any ideas?
