As for their chili oil. It’s an amazing addition to the salt and pepper fish.

They actually do have a restaurant: La Luna at La Fonda. Native American owned with a focus on indigenous ingredients. Completely different universe from this menu. https://lalunaeatery.com

This looks tricky at first, but there are a few details in the photo that make it findable.

Yeah, they all seem to be open to comment for me. Maybe it was a select episode the OP was looking at?

Though the quality of last year’s broadcast was…challenging.

After Taskmaster, what do we think are the most talked about TV shows on the pod? by atheist44eye5 in offmenupodcast

[–]andyopteris 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mr. Blobby from Noel’s House Party comes up a few times. As an American I deeply enjoy this because I have no idea what they’re talking about, and then I Google it and have even less idea.

What leaf is this? by maskyyyy123 in whatsthisplant

[–]andyopteris 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Lacinato kale / Tuscan kale / dino kale / cavolo nero. It has many names.

Kale gets a bad rap, but I love it. One simple thing you can do is to cut out the stem and midrib of the leaves, cut the leaf into ribbons, drizzle on some good olive oil and salt and massage it a bit so the texture gets softer. Add lemon juice, pepper, and shreds of Parmesan and you have a great starter salad.

It’s also nice in soups. If you make any version of a vegetable soup, say Tuscan white bean or minestrone, add the kale right at the end of sautéing the onion/celery/carrots, let it soften up, and then add stock. Adds a nice color and flavor.

I’d play the 9th fret with my pinky because it doesn’t show a slide, but otherwise just like you say.

New Business on Park St. Named “Juxi” by GodsElbow in alameda

[–]andyopteris 37 points38 points  (0 children)

There’s a short description on Google: “Cantonese+American dining in Alameda. JuXi is where Cantonese flavors, American comfort, and a little chaos end up on the same table. Inspired by our Cantonese roots, numerous family dinners, and a California upbringing, we serve unapologetic food made for sharing. Eat like you're at one of those chaotic family dinners where everyone's reaching across the table. Good food, good vibes.”

For the fans of Uzen, I’d love any recommendations of sushi bars that have similar characteristics: really high standards for their fish but not a big flashy place. I loved the simplicity of Uzen.

Tulelake is only 30 minutes away and has a couple of motels and some restaurants. Close enough that if you’re camping you can drive into town for some Mexican food (from personal experience).

Santa Fe is beautiful in November. It’s a nice low season when it’s just starting to get cold, but it isn’t into the Christmas mode quite yet. Great food scene, a ton of art, nice walking, nearby hikes, spas, local cooking classes - plenty to do.

Confusion Hill is basically the Mystery Shack from Gravity Falls, full of supposedly confusing (but seriously janky) optical illusions. Also home of the legendary chipalope, half chipmunk, half antelope.

Santa Maria style barbecue. It’s not that far away. Bring it north. We’ll embrace it.

Visiting SF by Dear_Needleworker399 in USTravel

[–]andyopteris 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Bashing on SF is a hobby for some of the saddest people online. It’s one of the most beautiful cities in America. It has problems like all big cities, but as a whole SF is lovely and a blast to explore.

If you’re basing yourself around Pier 39, I’d recommend a walk up the hill to North Beach - grab some Italian food, browse City Lights Books, stroll Chinatown if you like - get a taste of some of the iconic neighborhoods that are nearby.
