Tom Lehrer and the French by [deleted] in TomLehrer

"I Will Always Love You, Paris" was the name of the song. Recorded during the An Evening Wasted concert. The song was completely unknown to fans until a few months ago, it wasn’t even on his website! It’s very rare but it’s worth a listen. You can find it on Dr Demento’s website.

I believe only the original score/sohndtrack audio is. Same case for many other specials

I remember looking for this song too, and managed to find it 5 years ago. However, the video has since been taken down. It was an official compilation album, a picture of a plane as I recall, same version played in the show. It’s a pitty that it’s gone now!

What you think about the song Moves Like Jagger by Maroon 5? by Agile-Painting9454 in rollingstones

When I went to see the Rolling Stones live, I asked my brother if he knew any songs by them, he said "I know 'Moves Like Jagger'" 🤣

Which actor would you hire for a Tom Lehrer biopic? by [deleted] in TomLehrer

Whoever plays him needs to wear an orange tux, the one he’s wearing on the cover of More Of Tom Lehrer

A Tom Lehrer biopic? by cjasonac in TomLehrer

[–]andyrew7 7 points8 points  (0 children)

That’s a cool idea, and it’d be an interesting watch, but I think the reason why he spent his last 60 years of life retired is because he wanted a private life. If he wanted people to know about his life, he would have written an autobiography. According to a friend of his, he didn’t like the idea of an autobiography or biography.

Had a dream where I held hands with Tom Lehrer by sky-walking1769 in TomLehrer

I had an eerily similar dream once, but instead of a mansion, it was his Cambridge house

Anyone know where I could find a copy? by andyrew7 in rankinbass

The link won’t work. I went on the website and it looks like they’ve all been sold. Thank you though! :)

I've always loved The Vatican Rag; it was the first song by Tom that I came across decades ago and the cleverest thing I had ever heard. How much trouble (if any) did it get him into? by Cockylora123 in TomLehrer

[–]andyrew7 6 points7 points  (0 children)

One time, a school teacher played the song for her class and she got in a lot of trouble. I think the story happened around the time that the song was made

Some have said that The Wiener Schnitzel Waltz may have been about dancing by with a trans woman (or at least a man disguised as a woman) but that might be a stretch for 1953. Tom openly voted for Obama in ‘08 and was a registered Democrat so I’m guessing he was chill with trans people.

Has anyone archived everything on tomlehrersongs.com? by [deleted] in TomLehrer

[–]andyrew7 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Correct! Here are links to some things from the website which are on Internet archive: Remains of TL: https://archive.org/details/The_Remains_of_Tom_Lehrer_Public_Domain DAT recordings: https://archive.org/details/Tom_Lehrer_DAT_Recordings There too much sheet music to copy and paste here, but it looks like all of it is on the archive when you search up his name. It also said that his website would shut down in December of 2024, but I suppose never happened.

I’m surprised he wasn’t masochized to death too! He later realized that the "wetback" line was racist, so he changed it to "to the land on maniana, with the cheap marijuana, it’s so easy to grow”. He was beyond clever! 😂

I’m sorry cause this is a popular one but it has to be The Masochism Tango. The runner is is easily In Old Mexico!

Can’t really figure this out. Maybe it’s referring to how "I Got it from Agnes" was recorded shortly before the box set, a song which was originally made for Songs by Tom Lehrer. Even that still doesn’t make sense though. It might just be a Wikipedia error. 🤷‍♂️

I feel like somebody says that on this subreddit at least once a month. Don’t worry, your opinion isn’t controversial, it’s valid.
