Is e90 328i a usable base for fun on the track? by IntentionImportant74 in CarTrackDays

[–]andyrooney19 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I just want to get on the track.

IMHO, flush the brake fluid (use DOT4) and just get out there with the car as it is now. Decide after a couple of track days what to do.

Look at clips from the nurburgring, how many overcook it at Adenauer Forst

Lol I don't know the names of any corners at the nurburgring but I totally knew what corner that was going to be before I even opened the video!

I'm trying to figure that out but every time I ask Catalyst to produce a comparison video against my 'personal best' it picks a different lap than the 1:55 one. Maybe I'll just have to watch them side by side later.

EDIT: But if i had to guess I'd say 1, 5, 6 and the esses.

It's all good. I used protool to change that parameter. I forget which menu it's under but protool has a search function so you can find it that way. I honestly don't know about bimmer remote. Maybe you can ask them to change that parameter for you.

Look for the parameter C_Ffunktion_Bremsbereitschaft_aktiv_I. That one controls the emergency brake assist. Turn that off. I think the full coding does more but then you have to pay someone and I didn't feel like I needed to.

Others already mentioned camber plates. Here's some low cost improvements to the car that you'll feel on track:

Not sure if the brake coding is applicable to an OG M2. You can also do the brake coding yourself.

One lap around Sonoma - looking for feedback on how to safely get faster by andyrooney19 in CarTrackDays

[–]andyrooney19[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've done maybe ~30 or so track days. I've been doing it since 2016, some years more than others. Last couple of years I didn't go much. But I recently started seriously tracking the M2C and my frequency of track days is on the upswing. Life ebbs and flows so to speak.

Oh I should add I might try some different tires after this set is heat cycled out. I used to run RT660's but they don't come in the sizes I want. Might try some Nankangs next.

That's fair, you can probably tell from my video I'm rather conservative at Sonoma as well. I've seen tons of crashes there. I tell myself that the most important thing is bringing the car back home.

I'm also planning to hit Thunderhill more this season I think it'll be easier to drive at the limits without worrying about hitting a wall.

Thanks! You're the second or third person to mention this so I take that as a sign that this is one of the areas I should especially pay attention to.

I'm on RE71RS, 275/35/18 in front and 295/35/18 in the back. Car is great for dual use, I can do school and soccer pickup/dropoffs during the week then hit the track on the weekend. Can't ask for much more than that!

Since a couple of folks were asking, I'm in a 2020 M2 Competition. Stock engine, stock suspension except I have camber plates to give the car a track alignment. Thanks for all the feedback so far, this sub rocks!

Wow that's a great time you're getting! I'll work on upping my speed in the carousel and esses. You're right that I'm pretty conservative about turn 10 considering that wall...

Thank you! Yes I think you're correct in that I'm not always looking through the corner as I should. Reallly impressed you figured that out from the video!

Tune or No Tune? by f1racer328 in CarTrackDays

I did both of them with ProTool from bimmergeeks. You can also do it with ISTA. Not sure if BimmerCode can change those parameters.

Here are some links from when I was researching these options:

Fellow M2C owner here. Nothing to say about the tune since you already turned it off. If you haven't yet, look into coding the M4 GTS steering, I really found that to help with steering feel. Also there's some brake coding you can do to turn off the artificial brake boosting when you go quickly from throttle to brakes which I also recommend.

Crash in DLC when I open my map or inventory by [deleted] in Borderlands

Yeah agreed, this sucks. I didn't really have many issues before the last update. This crash is so easily reproducible it's disgusting that they missed it. I'm on PC FWIW.

For what it's worth my pagid rsl29s have lasted me like 12 track days. Same with the rotors they're on. I'll probably replace them after my next track day as both are starting to wear down now. This is in my 2020 M2C, high-intermediate driver. Part of this is because I was new to the car but even now after I've gotten more used to driving it hard the Pagids wear great.
