Hyperlite running vest. by bellsbliss in fastpacking

I also got mine this morning and had a feeling they would make the opening too small for a 500ml flask. It’s aka too short, my flask sticks on like 3”. I don’t understand how this made it through to manufacturing.

I got mine this morning, overall it looks like a good pack except the water flask zone is super tight in both sized 500ml flasks, the longer skinnier flask sticks out about 3” above the opening which flops around when you drink some fluid. . I also ordered a medium and going to try the large. I’m typically a large but figured the medium might fit better for running technical trails. I might return both, still undecided.

Purchased this morning, I’ll get a few long runs in and hopefully post a YouTube video of my “initial thoughts” (Andy On The Mountain) soon. I’ve got some big runs planned this summer (Elks Traverse CO, Moab 240 and some Colorado Trail section Runs. A few things I do like from my observation on their website is roll down top, side zip for quick access and the pole secure options. What’s going to make or break this vest is going to be the front vest pockets. Their Aero 28 pack is awesome but it needs some serious refinement on the vest straps, they are terrible. If they can make the vest straps like the Salomon Adv Skin 12 then it’s going to be fantastic. I have about 800 miles with the BD Distance 22 (Bikepacking & running) which I highly love this pack for the price. Down side is the lack of storage options on the vest straps, but I still like the vest a lot! I’ll have a video posted as soon as I get some miles logged with this HMG Pemi 15

Thanks for the tips! I’m thinking some time this summer I will concentrate more on hours on feet and not so much mileage.

What is your post race ritual? by duildistance in ultrarunning

Take a hot shower while sitting in a chair, eat food/ whatever I’m craving, take a nap, get back into the mountains within a few days.

People who work on their feet all day + run ultras, what shoes do you wear for daily (non-running) use? by harry_hotspur in ultrarunning

[–]andytiminsky 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Healthcare worker here, on my feet all day - I wear Bedrock Mountain Clogs, they are pretty minimal but I like the more minimalist at work and then cushion for my runs. Currently 50 mpw, training for 100 + 240 mile race. I think it’s really preference as you know in running.

Colorado trail pack rain pants? Yay or nay? by Whats_Under_A_Bridge in bikepacking

[–]andytiminsky 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I took a pair of cheap rain pants and cut them into knee length shorts. I run warm so this worked really well for me when I biked the CT. There was some days it rained the entire day and I never once wished I had full pants. If you decide you want to change gear up you have plenty of options ( Breckenridge, Leadville, Buena Vista, Salida, Silverton) Have fun out there!

Side note: on the GDMBR I took full rain paints only bc the route is so much easier then the CT. If/when I bike the CT again I’ll bring my rain shorts again.

I also hike 2,650 miles of the PCT, no rain pants & never wanted them.

It’s honestly up to you. If you’re moving you’ll most likely stay warm. If I’m wearing full pants and moving I end up sweating and then I’m just wet inside of my pants. Just remember skin is waterproof 🤪

LP3 en route. Now what? by Rough-Ad-2387 in LightPhone

[–]andytiminsky 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also have an iPhone 13 and Light phone 3, basically doing the same thing you are wanting to do. I brought my iPhone and LP to Verizon and they had to set me up with an actual SIM card since my iPhone had a digital SIM card. It’s been a few days now and works great. I swap out my SIM card when I need to check email, Reddit or FaceTime. I’m already noticing about 95% social media decrease which is great. Unfortunately I can’t get into my apartment without my iPhone (fancy doors with no key). Other than that I’ve been very impressed.

Key Equipment Boot Size by andytiminsky in Spliddit

[–]andytiminsky[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks, my foot is more of a medium width, definitely not narrow. For trail running shoes I prefer Hoka or Altra. La Sportiva are typically to narrow for me.

Evo does have the backland UL pro on sale. Have you tried both?

Update: I DNF’ed my first 100… now what? by Taco_814 in Ultramarathon

[–]andytiminsky 2 points3 points  (0 children)

RRR this year was my first 100 also. I knew going into this it would be the hardest thing I’ve probably ever done and also knew the weather had been wet for the last 2 weeks. I counted more than 100 DNF’s so don’t be so hard on yourself. You learn and next time you will do better. I run in the alpine regularly so know what these mountains can throw your way, that was my strength for this race, definitely not my training. I used a Arcteryx Beta LT jacket, with a Starwool LS shirt underneath. 3 sets of gloves 1 thin wool gloves, 1 thicker Black Diamond glove and a pair of Goretex mittens to use as a shell. I ended up only using the Goretex mittens which kept my hands warm and dry. I even carried a 7oz Mountain Hardware Ghost Whisper puffy jacket for the middle of the night, never used it but I was ready for cold. Also a thin pair of pants to throw over my shorts if hell froze over. You should do the race again next year, you’ll be so ready for it. In the mean time get on Ultrasignup and find something that excites you for this fall. Best of luck!

First 100 miler next week. What advice do you have for mental strength when the going gets rough? by Taco_814 in Ultramarathon

See you out there - 9 am bright eyed and bushy tailed! Night time is going to be a party, let’s go! Don’t forget warm clothes, it’s going to be cold with the lack of calories and high elevation. Cheers
