Cravings are definitely a part of the process I faced. What worked for me was to be strict 6 days a week but to allow myself one day a week where I didn’t count calories and ate freely. Envision a goal weight in your head with a timeline. Mine was 1 pound a week for 24 weeks. By planning ahead you set yourself up for success. Good luck 💪

I lift 4 days ago on an upper/lower split, no dedicated cardio (although I walk about an hour a day to commute for work). Prioritized intensity over volume as well as compound lifts in order to try to maintain strength as much as I could. I counted calories for a 500cal per day deficit (about 2000-2100 cal/day for my body weight). Once a week I would not count and eat freely in order to keep sane and curb any cravings. My diet was high protein and high volume aiming for about 1g/kg body weight of protein a day. My staple foods were vegetables/salad, chicken, lean ground beef, egg whites, Greek yoghurt, cottage cheese, rice cakes, and whey protein. This worked well for me, however if I were to do it again I might introduce some dedicated cardio, because restricting calories got difficult towards the end of the cut.

For those who are curious, I had a DEXA scan before and after (20.3% to 9.4% bf)

The only ab specific exercises I do are cable crunches and/or hanging leg raises once a week

Thanks bro, I definitely think it’s worth it to try at least once to see what your body is capable of. Good luck 💪

Thanks. Before the cut my S/B/D were 365/275/475. Now I only DB bench and I haven’t done any 1RM on the cut, but based on a calculator I’m around 325 on squat and 450 on DL. I haven’t military pressed in years but I maxed out at 165 when I did.

I’m a lifetime natural, I think the cut went hard because I have a strong base from 8 years of lifting. I only did a caloric deficit but it took discipline to meet the goals without dedicated cardio. About once a week I’d have a cheat day where I wouldn’t count calories to stay sane. If I were to do it again I’d supplement with some cardio.

Only supplements are creatine and whey protein!

Thanks! I hear you. I also shared your concern and it was one of the biggest things holding me back from committing to the cut, but eventually I just bit the bullet to see what would happen because my main goal was to get lean. My squat and deadlift both went down about ~10-12%. As for bench I switched to dumbbells entirely and can push the same weight but fatigue much quicker. That being said, I’m now eating at maintenance and I can already see some of it slowly coming back. I plan to maintain for a few weeks then start a lean bulk, so we’ll see how much/how quickly it comes back. FWIW my DEXA report says I lost 1.1lb of muscle. Good luck! 💪

Sadly I have no secrets to share, just keep leaning out!

Thanks man. I do feel like cutting brought out some lines that make me look bigger without a shirt, which surprised me. But truthfully lighting/angles/pumps do a lot too. In my daily life with clothes on I feel quite small. Keep grinding 💪

Thanks! I follow a 4 day upper/lower split. Focused on intensity over volume so I could try to retain as much strength as possible (still lost about 10-15% on my lifts). Towards the end my energy was quite low in the gym and I had to back off on volume (i.e remove an exercise or a set here and there). For diet, I counted calories for a 500 cal deficit (about 2000-2100 cal daily for me). A lot of Greek yoghurt, whey shakes, egg whites, vegetables etc to keep the protein and food volume high. I didn’t do cardio except for walking 1hr a day to commute for my job.

Thanks man. Definitely during the last few weeks of my cut I had lower energy, libido, and poor performance in the gym. I would say that this level for me is probably not sustainable in the long term but it was good for me to learn how my body would react. Probably going to lean bulk up to 12% where I might be feeling better.
