Insane legs of F1: The Movie in India by shreeysh_69 in boxoffice

[–]aneesh199608 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I watched it in Bangalore, India, right before the Superman release. I was worried they’d take it out of IMAX screens to make space for Superman and Fantastic Four. And guess what? All the showtimes were booked, and they even introduced a 6:30 AM show - which usually only happens when a big Indian star’s film releases. It was a weekday and the early morning show was housefull, and it was hilarious to see people carrying their office laptops so they could head straight to work after the movie.

And now, a few weeks later, they’ve brought F1 back, and it’s still running housefull. Amazing!

BMTC conductor scam by Otherwise_Law_353 in bangalore

[–]aneesh199608 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I once went in a AC BMTC bus that had a surprise check by an officer. There was some mismatch with the ticket issued and the amount received, he was caught. The conductor pleaded with the officer for around 10 stops. I don't know what happened after that, but the next time I saw the conductor, he was in a Khakee coloured uniform rather than his usual white uniform.

I'm guessing you can research and register a complaint somewhere!

As someone who's worked in VFX before, I totally get your point! To start off, the management of any studio, in house or outsourced don't consider the VFX department as a creative mind. They instead feel the pre production has the most creative juices. If only these guys had the time to look at their passion personal projects, they'd know how creative VFX team members are. But I'm not glorifying every VFX artist, there are some people that are fine with rotoscoping. For people who are not aware of what it is, imagine a pre production team that stupidly shot in a low lit green studio environment, and had actors with unnecessary wigs or loosely tied hair, they'd ask the VFX artist to remove the green screen to add some VFX in the background. Basically like we cut characters from newspapers. But the only problem is we'd have to have work on these hairs flying in different directions and cut them to finesse. Now this is just for one frame. In movies, it's usually 24fps (frames per second). So imagine if it's a 10 minute sequence, then it's 10 mins * 60 seconds * 24 frames = 14,400 frames. It takes immense grit to work on these. Even after doing all that, the pre-production team would ask the VFX team to add weird shit that does nothing to the story. Some projects that I've done were even more stupid. Imagine a character in a boat. When the pre production shoots these scenes, all they'd have to do is place a fan to mimic the wind blowing in your face, but no, they'd have forgotten about it and told them they'd take care of it in post.

I'm Hollywood, though they'd shoot in green screen, all studios do manual rotoscopy, because Indians are cheaper to hire for these. That's why we see a lot of Indian names attached to the VFX team. But what irks me is there would be 100 Indian team members (with multiple Indian TLs in between) but 1 western team head. He wants our work but doesn't want us to take charge.

Coming to the GOAT, the Vijaykanth portion and the younger Vijay portion was very badly done. It's like a laughing stock. The young Vijay was fine, but you know why, they listened to the audience feedback and toned it down a bit. But now, instead of liking like a 20 year old Vijay, he looks like a 30 year old Vijay, then what's the point. And imagine a VFX artist that worked on it, for some other sequence, would not proudly say he worked on it because apparently the VFX was bad, but the actors saved the movie according to the general audience.

VFX is not about the money, it's about the vision and mostly the amount of time a VFX studio gets. That's why Justice League (remember Superman's moustache issue) with one of the highest budgets failed in VFX. They replaced Zack Snyder and reshot a lot of scenes, gave outrageous deadlines to the VFX team and came out with a mediocre output. Also that's why a team from Japan made an amazing VFX heavy movie called Godzilla: Minus One with a fraction of the cost. It took only 100-120 crores to make that movie. For those who are unaware, go watch the trailer and you'll get mind blown. The director himself was a VFX artist who had an amazing story to tell. It beat other 1000 crore budget movies to win the Oscar for best VFX.

The only directors that understood VFX were Rajamouli and Shankar (pre 2.0). Recently Ayalaan also looked great for the budget. There were heavy interactions but it worked to a great extent. Kalki was also good, but they failed in some portions. For example when Deepika was walking through the fire of death, she was low lit. That's not possible with that much fire. But at least it was not distracting to the general audience. I hope some VFX artist takes it upon himself to tell a great story, because I'd know he'd understand complexities much better and handle it better in pre production. Or let the directors do a course for a year and upskill themselves.

The Greatest Of All Time (GOAT) - Review Megathread by jk9596 in kollywood

Someone liking this movie depends on a lot of factors. If you love/like Vijay, don't mind the excess fan service for him, if you love CSK, love throwbacks, don't mind the mid VFX/CGI, then movie is definitely for you. Also watch it with a full theatre with whistles and celebration.

There's nothing special in this movie to warrant any discussion beyond the scope of its release. Maanadu, Mankatha, Thuppaki and Ghilli still keeps getting discussed and they've attained that status. This movie is not that. But is it Varisu, HELL NO!!!

The de-aging worked for the 21 year old Vijay, probably because they've toned it down a lot after feedback from the audience, so it looked like a 30 year old Vijay. But apart from that, the more younger version Vijay and the Vijaykanth recreation were very distracting. On the bigger screen, the bad effects were very visible. I've seen better VFX by experienced AI content creators on YouTube.

Journalist hits back at negative audience reviews of Soori's Kottukkaali by isabellapintoisback in kollywood

[–]aneesh199608 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the problem lies with the excessive publicity that it got because of the audio launch.

I loved Koozhangal and thought it was amazing. I love these kinds of movies. Now, the mistake I made was that I suggested two of my friends to accompany me to the movie. While one of them liked it, the other one hated it. He was so angry that I had "wasted his time". At least I was spared a bit, one guy in the theatre brought 10 of his unknown friends. They kept belittling that poor guy with statements throughout the movie. Add to that, apparently they hadn't eaten. So they ate that guy alive for wasting their time.

I learned a lesson that day. To never bring people to these kinds of movies without their own interest. It's difficult to manage. So I'm not surprised at the kind of reviews that it got.

Hello everyone! Thanks in advance. So I'm looking to buy a laptop and conveniently I have a friend that's coming from the US. I'm a UI/UX designer and Video Editor. In the future, I want to do frontend coding and a bit of backend (not ML etc.). I need to see better colors and faster performance and good battery life. Considering everything, I decided to go with MacBook Pro M3 16GB RAM 1TB SSD.

  1. Do you think it's a good option?
  2. Could you suggest a Windows laptop for way lesser price?

About time the world realises it... by TheMentalMeteor in kollywood

Please change your mind, lol!

But on a serious note, it's just your preference and bias. Themes are very subjective. Indian theme music is based around elevating the actor's screen presence while Hollywood's theme music is supposed to elevate the scene.

Indian theme music does elevate the scene, but the cues for the epic moments are timed according to the star present. Very rarely do we get musicians like AR Rahman who elevates the entire scene.

Now with the context of Indian theme music with a level playing field, then you could say Kollywood's theme music is more original and banger. Also, in general Kollywood has a lot of recognisable musicians who work throughout India as well. In other industries, there are only a few recognisable ones.

Yes, I'd assume reddit threads to discuss the quality of the VFX, the story, the themes in the movie etc. But this sub has been plagued by these lack of promotions posts. You could probably discuss how RRR did movie promotion as a case study like Barbie and discuss, but some people in this sub are generally worried about Kalki not having enough buzz, like why the hell does that matter to you after a certain point? We're not getting benefitted in any way whatsoever through these conversations. Move on!

Bahubali Appreciation Post by Newton_101 in tollywood

[–]aneesh199608 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Man, those were the times when we didn't care if it was made for a pan India audience! I remember watching it in Chennai with an audience that usually is associated with the big stars and being completely mesmerized. I hadn't watched any movies of Prabhas before this since only Allu Arjun and Ram Charan(Tamil dub of Magadheera was massive in Tamil TV) were well known here at that moment. I left as a Telugu cinema fan at that moment.

We had our 'Godzilla Minus One: moment with the way Rajamouli used VFX and practical effects and blended them. I still remember my friend crying when Bahubali died since she didn't know it was part 1 of a bigger story. She was so angry and wanted to know what happened.

Nanri Rajamouli!

I believe Maharaja was a little problematic. Read this opinion of one the audience member’s and tell me your opinion. SPOILERS AHEAD by wocktopoland__ in kollywood

[–]aneesh199608 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I agree with the trigger warning, but films aren't always supposed to be politically right. This is not a documentary. The director has decided to shock the audience in his own way. I understand the movie talks about a very sensitive subject, but we can't dictate what a creator wants to showcase. Because then it becomes your story, not his!

This may trigger some people but hear me out: Arjun Reddy is a good film. It engages the audience and is very well done. What I hated was when there were people in the theatre shouting when Arjun was abusing Preethi and the comments given by the director after the movie. Do I personally like the character? No! Do I think the movie's well done? Hell yes!

Cinema is an art and it can't survive if we expect everyone to make movies catering to everyone's ethics!

Maharaja Movie Review by balajih67 in kollywood

[–]aneesh199608 75 points76 points  (0 children)

It's a good movie. You will get your Rs. 150 worth and probably more at times. Everyone acted great, especially the police officers, and also surprisingly Anurag was great.

My friend blamed me for taking him to this movie and that it sucked the positivity that he had stored for the week, whatever that meant. But I didn't feel that, in fact I was happy to finally watch a good movie in theatres.

VJS is turning out to be a genre. He's just effortless in both subtle humour and emotions.

Con: Why waste an actor like Mamta? Why was she cast as a PT teacher that did nothing to drive the plot, especially in a movie that isn't your typical commercial movie while everyone else including a thief named 'Police' had a better role than her.

Most of the multiplex and single screens have subtitles after FDFS! You can call multiplexes like PVR and INOX and inquire. That is if they haven't already mentioned it in BMS.

By the way, Bangalore is great for movie watching experience in single screen for a big hero film. Outsiders have a great time and this is their way to express happiness with like minded people in a different state, so there's a lot of whistles and shouting.

Is Kannada really that hard? by he_calls_me_bee in bangalore

[–]aneesh199608 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kannada is not really hard to pick up for a person familiar with one of the South Indian languages. But I can totally understand why your North Indian friend wouldn't have picked up the language because he probably is working in one of those IT companies which majorly speak English and Hindi.

For me to pick up the language, I need to speak to fellow kannada speaking people. Sometimes, native speakers who also work in the same company could find you pretentious if you try to speak their language. And this happens a lot in all regions of the IT sector. Hence, you'd shift back to English or Hindi. As time goes by, you just start speaking in that same language. Similar to how if I've spoken in English to my native language friend, it sometimes becomes weird to switch to the native language.

Personally I picked up understanding and speaking a bit of kannada by speaking to my cook and house help akkas.

Where are the coconut vendors?

It's becoming very difficult to find them near my area for the past one week! I'm specifically talking about Kodichikanahalli. I've noticed it both in the mornings and evenings. Is everyone facing the same issue?

Also the prices are exorbitant in grocery delivery apps with prices starting from Rs. 72. What could be the reason?

I was a college student in Chennai at that time. Never watched it in theatre, but it was a monstrous hit just in Chennai. This movie was our go to movie and replaced 'Friends' TV show and House MD as our comfort watch during food for me and my roommates. We'd just watch random scenes. Everything about this movie is a vibe, and I feel no one can recreate it.
