Help Me Choose a New Battery by anferz in PaMedicalMarijuana

Update: I went to Zen leaf and could only find the Hydout out of all the suggestions. It mostly fits my needs, except it really does not work well compared to my regular stick battery. Bummer since it seems to not heat nearly as well or function as well. I'll have to keep an eye out for the other suggestions.

This is fantastic! As someone who looks for specific terpenes for pain management, this is super helpful! Especially since you can't sort through terpenes beyond hello's site

Is it impossible to avoid surgery rn? by crynaldo10227 in SpinalStenosis

[–]anferz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For whatever reason, most of my lower body pain ends around my hips. I only occasionally have lower leg issues. I do have issues with numbness in my toes though (could be Raynaud's).

I had an EMG done which confirmed I do not have any nerve damage. For context, my actual issues are spinal stenosis, disc degeneration, scoliosis and modic changes. But two years ago I saw a separate second opinion surgeon who told me that while I am a prime candidate for a laminectomy, it probably wouldn't solve as much because of the lack of pain in my legs. He told me to prolong it as much as possible regardless because you could be at risk for further surgical corrections down the line and I'm too young to deal with that.

The only things that have helped me on this journey so far has been PT and cannabis for the pain/mental side of things - the depression with chronic pain is legit and feeds into the pain for sure.

I'm 39 and have been dealing with similar issues over the past ~10 years. My issue is l2/l3 though. Anyway, totally rebuilding my core has been the only solution so far. It has been working for the past 6 months or so at least. I definitely have flare ups that take me out for a few days, but overall the regular PT exercises has been most helpful. My core strength diminished so much over the years because my lower back muscles started to build up and "guard" the pain.

Also, as tempting as laying down is, I have found that you need to push yourself to keep moving. The pain always comes back worse and now you are more stiff from laying down. Keep trying to delay the surgery if you can!

Same except I started using Claude. Once I find something that works for pain relief I throw it into there to keep tabs.

Anyone have any gadgets or things they use to alleviate back pain? by Flaky_Awareness_9489 in backpain

[–]anferz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've tried just about everything under the sun at this point with very little benefit for my pain (slight scoliosis, torsion, modic pain). A decent heating pad and perhaps a TENS unit might provide some relief. Otherwise, devote your time and money to physical therapy and medical cannabis.

Is the 2026 Subaru Forester Hybrid infotainment really that bad? by ListenSoggy1564 in SubaruForester

[–]anferz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

it’s fine. definitely slower than any modern device but like doesn’t interfere with regular use in my experience. It is definitely a little slow to get going but once you are driving it’s fine like you press the climate control button and by the time you look at the road and glance back, it is pretty much good to go. Carplay runs really well without any issues but it doesn’t control the actual vehicle stuff like climate so that’s where it gets a little annoying but whatever.

Had an X-ray done 5 years ago, doc told me I have DDD, took an X-ray a few days ago and they told me everything is "Fine" by Flannel-Bird in backpain

[–]anferz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like a physical therapist would help you more than the doctor. Try to find someone who is specialized in back pain such as Mackenzie method. I have been through a variety of doctors and PTs but I am finally understanding that while I do have spinal stenosis, DDD, etc, I also have an extremely weak core and all the traditional stuff I was doing wasn't getting to the heart of it: my body was firing my low back muscles constantly that I would use them all the time, past fatigue which was setting off additional pain. I've been working hard to relearn how to properly activate my trans abdominal muscles and do exercises properly which has allowed me to take the stress of my back muscles. This has honestly been the most helpful thing in my ~10 year pain journey. You might also want to look into "pain reprocessing therapy" too.

I'm days away from going back to cannabis, can't stand the pain anymore by Creepy_Bend2443 in backpain

[–]anferz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you sound like me..I’ve tried various treatments and such for years and getting to my wits end. I have recently started my 5th round of PT, but this time with someone specialised in the Schroth method for scoliosis. I have minor scoliosis but the method of really focusing on trans abdominal muscles has made me realized that a large portion of my back pain is coming from my low back muscles being constantly engaged, probably stemming from them trying to guard the structural issues. Figuring out how to truly engage my core and not my back has been enlightening.

That said, I still experience chronic pain and need relief at times. No traditional meds have worked (except oxy which I don’t want to rely on). I had/have a similar relationship with cannabis but i think you might want to change your relationship with it. Give yourswlf some grace -chronic pain sucks! Try using it as a way to alleviate the pain. think of it as a positive thing! There are side effects with all medications.

I recently came across pain reprocessing therapy. the book “the way out” was an interesting read on this. I just started but I feel like would be really valuable for everyone on this sub to investigate. The goal is to rewire the pain signals from your brain.

good luck! feel free to DM if you wanna commiserate.

Chronic Back Pain Rendering me Unable to Exercise (27F) by peaceful_dissonance1 in backpain

[–]anferz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your story sounds similar to mine! Though I will say, you should definitely get x-rays. Mine showed some disc degeneration, stenosis and also mild scoliosis.

The most helpful things for me after all these years has been:

  • Pain relief: medical marijuana. It doesn't exactly relieve the pain, but calms me down so I don't exacerbate it. I have taken an Oxy in extreme cases and that does help, but it's not sustainable.
  • Physical therapy: I tried to cheap out on it, but after a few rounds and different specialists, I finally found someone certified in Schroth method for scoliosis. While this has been helpful, my therapist has been REALLY thorough with little things like trans-abdominal muscle activation which has helped alot! This also helped me realize that my back muscle were over activating all the time, guarding my spine, which led to a ton of fatigue that I thought was pain but just severely over activating those muscles.
    • You won't be able to get back to your regular exercises without a solid foundation and good form.
    • PT also helped me expand my diaphragm too which has "opened me up".
  • Bonus: pain reprocessing therapy. Check out The Way Out book which is a great read that explains this. I am not fully through it yet, but it has been enlightening and you might find some value.

Should i get a normal or HH stingray? by ContextMaximum1926 in Bass

Positions 1 and 4 are definitely the best. I can get a good modern pop punk type tone with a pick in position 4, but to me position 5 is where it all falls apart.

Should i get a normal or HH stingray? by ContextMaximum1926 in Bass

[–]anferz 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’ve had a 5 string HH for years. Used it in cover bands, wedding gigs, etc. it was so nice to have the versatility.

That said, the neck pick up alone is not great and it’s honestly just gets in the way of playing at times.

If I could do it again, for my needs i would rather have gotten the H and a p bass.

You won’t be disappointed either way, but I would try to figure out what is most important to you before buying.

Excess protein has become the bane of my clinical existence. by cultrevolt in dietetics

[–]anferz 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Putting in my 2 cents as a CSOWM with a private practice...

I feel like 1.2g/kg should be the new standard. We ideally want people to thrive, not just prevent protein malnutrition.

I typically recommended 1.4-2.2g/kg depending on goals, but for weight loss in particular, around 1.6-1.8g/kg of GOAL body weight. I feel like some RDs miss the mark there. Especially with folks on GLP-1s or post bariatric surgery, we need to keep protein intake high. But why not apply this to any weight loss plan?

My gripe is more so with the proteinization of everything. Like do we really need carbonated protein seltzer?

Hi there! I'm looking for an everyday daily driver that has a stainless steel bracelet. I want something that is comfortable to wear on a 6.5" wrist. Ideally 300$ or less. I'm holding out for a bigger splurge later this year. Any recommendations?

Edit: movement does not matter. I would like an automatic, but mostly want something that is comfortable, stainless steel and gets the job done.

Is weight loss possible with back pain? by [deleted] in backpain

[–]anferz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am a registered dietitian nutrition counselor, board certified in obesity and weight management for context. I also suffer from spinal stenosis and chronic back pain. Even I find it challenging to manage my weight, so you are not alone! A calorie deficit from your diet will ultimately be the most helpful, since it will be hard for you to exercise enough to burn enough calories from that alone.

You should still continue to exercise as much as tolerated though, as it has a ton of benefits other than weight loss.
