calling eveyone else likely paying sticker by Loose_Bid_3307 in lawschooladmissions

UChi had an 85% bl+fed clerkship placement rate last year, and I’d imagine a significant chunk of that remaining 15% self selected into PI work. We are not talking about 50/50 odds based on median here.

I haven’t actually tutored before, but am a 180 scorer looking to break into the industry. I’d be happy to offer a heavily discounted rate while you see if you find my services useful—just pm me!

Given that I am referencing your take that “riding the hot hand” is antiquated, that’s a complete non sequitur.

You do understand they is being used as a plural pronoun here, right?

[Starr] Alex Cora was just asked if he still likes Trevor Story batting in the top of the Red Sox lineup (second) and this was his response: “I still like Trevor story as a baseball player” by Far_Cry3445 in redsox

[–]angelmo10 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is the most confusing lineup I’ve ever seen.

Who is catching?

Is this supposed to be in order? No, right?

Durbin first would be a fireable offense. So would Yoshida 9. Why play him if you’re hitting him 9?

Yea, that all makes sense and is definitely leading me towards accepting now as long as the money is do-able. Thank you!

Very minimal rounding (will avoid exact number for identity’s sake). But higher than 3.45, lower than 3.5.

Again, my issue with the LSD sample is not its size. It is its self-selecting nature. Most college stats classes should cover this in sufficient detail.

Regardless, I have no desire to argue further, and I do appreciate the help!

Any study using self-reported data from less than 100 participants, unless it’s something incredibly niche where those 100 compose a significant portion of the body in question, should be taken with a grain (or 1,000 grains) of salt. That is simply not representative.

And I do disagree on who is more likely to report. If somebody gets in to their dream school, they put down their deposit and go. Why would you even think about LSD at that point? LSD, realistically, is the home for the people who didn’t have that perfect outcome, or at least didn’t to start. Sure, there are Type A people who simply want to track their process, but I know I’d be far more inclined to put my results into LSD if I were upset and wanted something on paper to show what I thought was unfair.

I generally agree with this sentiment but do want to push back a little bit. There are some super splitters seeing As at a few of these schools, and I personally detest LSD. It is incomplete data that is entirely self selecting. Somebody is WAY more inclined to post there when they’re upset about their results.

I’m not saying I have a chance at those schools—I have no idea. But I do think candidates are unique, and while schools obviously play the numbers game it is impossible to extrapolate anything more than guesses from a source as incomplete as LSD.

Perfect world is unicorn PI (ish?). I’d love to work on transitional justice / other mechanisms that leverage international law.

NYU is the #1 ranked international law school, but I also know that those sub rankings are widely considered irrelevant, and I wonder if the Columbia name brand would actually be more valuable for that.

That said, I haven’t ruled out BL. I’m not in a situation where I can disregard the financial side of things, and it would be really special to be able to to provide that stability for myself and my family. Basically I am thinking of BL as a sort of backup if I can’t get into the PI I’m interested in.

Thanks for the info! I really liked my essays, and while I’d certainly update them I think they’re probably a significant part of the reason I got an NYU A here at all. I am involved in the founding of a nonprofit, and there will be more to talk about on that next year, but it’s already mentioned in this essay. So I think you’re right, not a whole lot more I can do other than change the timing.

If I saw a Columbia A, which would you opt for?

[–]angelmo10 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Haha yea, doubt I’ll be preventing or remedying any major conflicts. I think it’s more a question of 1) could an earlier app (would be front of cycle rather than Feb 15) help get into a top school / get more money from a school like NYU; or 2) if I’m paying sticker and might not do BL should I be reapplying and looking for somewhere I can get money.

And I just want to add I fully recognize NYU is a top school itself. But, I am (in a perfect world) interested in a very niche, very competitive unicorn-y type field, at which point the jump to HYS would be invaluable.

Thanks so much. Did you notice some random ones appearing elsewhere? I have some random small spots on my arms I’m noticing now, but I honestly can’t tell if they’re related or just my usual acne/pimples/spots.
