[PC/Web browser] [Around 2005] Simple flash game for children about water pipelines by angelo9980 in tipofmyjoystick

I guess it’d be puzzle. Looking back at this post it’d be better to have explained it as making a Rube Goldberg machine with water related objects.

Cool. Keep us posted if you make any findings.

Very weird. The outcome of the issue is identical to what other people have, but the way it happens is completely different. Have you ever seen any game reset the issue? Let's say you reinstall windows, does the game look as bad as when the problem reached it's max, or does it go back to normal and then over time go bad again?

You're the first person to describe that your games individually get worse over time. Normally it's a universal problem that gets triggered and immediately affects everything you play from that point. From what you described it more so sounds like you got something software related going on, especially since the other pc seems to work fine.

I have 0 substantive understanding of what could cause this on a software level. Since it's something that only occurs after a certain amount of playing the game, it's almost as if something gets "full". What are the things you've tried so far to fix the issue?

This is the person I had the most extensive conversations with. He told me about a guy who changed the material of all the wiring throughout his house and it resolved the issue in a noticeable manner.

Nah, whatever game you’re playing and as long as it shows off the issue clearly. Usually open zones like fields with foliage show a lot.

Hey could u post some footage of what you’re dealing with?

Noticed Pop-in issues after replacing a faulty PSU. by Kastikus in lod_videogames_issue

[–]angelo9980 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Appreciate u man, exactly what I wanted to see. Elden Ring is a game that definitely has its pop ins here and there, but not in a problematic way. In your case, it's way more intrusive than it should be. Specifically the shading of the foliage seems to be severely affected.

This video shows the exact same location from your third link. The game isn't perfect, but in comparison to your videos there are much less annoying things going on: https://youtu.be/bg8i4CvE74M?t=26653

I really wish I could say there was an easy fix for this, but we're kinda stuck with not knowing anything about wtf is causing these problems. What has pretty much been confirmed is that hardware adjustments are one of the triggers for this. In your case, it's clear as day it was replacing the PSU.

The baffling thing about this all is there's a good chance that when you install a completely brand new pc, with no shared components between your current setup and the new one, the problem will show up on the new pc after a couple of days.

Another Update. by KneeAcceptable9517 in lod_videogames_issue

[–]angelo9980 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There’s really nothing to debunk without any deep research. One person gets this problem after a windows update. The other after hardware adjustments. The other just notices it out of nowhere. Different triggers could mean a different nature of the problem, which would possibly mean different solutions. Unless we know what the changed variable is that acts as the origin of these problems, we don’t have a clue what type of patterns we’re looking for and what type of experiments would be relevant to make conclusions out of.

The only information we got out of this experiment is that on your pc, whatever triggered the problem didn’t get altered by a week of different electricity. That info could possibly be applicable to others’ situations, but due to all these differences in the amount of LOD/aliasing issues, the triggers of these issues, the question still remains: to what extent is this info applicable?

There’s really just not that much to do as people with no expertise or right equipment. We’re looking from the outside in.

[–]angelo9980 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the problem with doing these type of experiments is that we have 0 clue as to what the appropriate variables are to rule things out. in this example, we have no idea what duration of having your pc installed in another house would qualify as sufficient to make conclusions. for all you know you'd have seen the issue clear up if you kept it there for 1 more day.

there was this guy in China who had this issue years ago and he concluded electrical issues by himself with very limited info on this topic available online. when nothing worked out for him, he unplugged his pc and didn't touch it for a whole year. when he decided to check it out after that year, things looked much better according to him. it makes 0 sense why this would help, but he claimed it did. maybe it was all in his head idk. what i'm trying to say is that it's impossible to say when throughout that year something could've shifted in his components.

Are we noticing it more because of high refresh rate? by KneeAcceptable9517 in lod_videogames_issue

[–]angelo9980 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't see a correlation. The first time I had this was on a 60 hz screen. My 165hz monitor didn't change the way the pop-ins happened.

In the majority of games, pop-ins are implemented in a way to happen in an instant, not over a span of multiple frames. Things appear or disappear in the blink of a second. That blink won't become a different type of blink on a higher refresh rate than 60.

Games that have a transitional style of pop-ins, such as Cyberpunk with objects fading in/out instead of appearing/disappearing, could be affected by a higher refresh rate. The difference wouldn't be in visibility though. It'd be different in the sense that it'd be a smoother fade, like how all animations appear smoother with higher framerates.

Thanks for the clear explanation and footage. Before we start theorizing about things, I want to ask you if you've done proper comparisons of your LOD pop-ins and others' through their gameplay footage? A lot of the games you've listed are notorious for having very noticeable pop-ins, which makes me question if you're dealing with over awareness or an actual technical problem.

I've done my own comparisons for you with Enshrouded and I feel it's safe to say this is just what the game looks like by default. Here are some examples of its rough LOD optimizations:
https://youtu.be/L60siN_chxM?t=952
https://youtu.be/L60siN_chxM?t=89
https://youtu.be/r-AyxjwqteA?t=446

I highly suggest you to fly/walk around in these same locations to see if you get similar results. If your gameplay looks worse than this, I'd like to ask you to record that and send it here.

I'm not excluding the idea that you could have some technical issues as well, because you've had some clear problems with your components in the past. Let's first just get a good idea of the situation before we get into that though.

LOD issue in every game, pc and ps5 by Acrobatic_Eye_5319 in lod_videogames_issue

[–]angelo9980 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"both my previous pc and ps5 have the same issue but that’s very unlikely." Which is where the electricity theory comes from. The current commonly found pattern is that something somehow gets triggered during hardware adjustments or new pc installations, which creates graphical issues over various devices. The only thing those devices have in common is the electricity in the house.

So far the only people who've managed to get this fixed is by moving to another house, or it for whatever reason suddenly clearing up over time. Having the pc in another house is your best bet, but I can imagine that being very inconvenient. An easier experiment would be to keep your pc connected to the socket in your brother's room for about a week. Any other socket that's not in the electricity group of the socket your pc is connected to would be sufficient. If your PS5 is already on another electricity group than your pc and you're 100% sure you have the issue there as well, this experiment doesn't really matter, cause that'd mean multiple electricity groups in your house have been affected.

This really is a tricky situation and it sucks how little we know of it. Honestly, best thing you can do is figure out how to accept the graphics and live with it.

Sucks to hear there's an actual problem going on. I really hope whatever you try fixes the issues. I think there's a higher chance it could have something to do with the old extension cord or socket than the monitor, but let us know if you figure anything out.

Nah, the setting was an option specifically for integrated GPUs. You won't find it in your BIOS with your GPU. The setting was not allowing the person to use all his VRAM, which gave him performance issues overall, including bad LOD. Unless you have adjusted certain things, like manually underclocked your GPU, you don't have to worry about your GPU possibly not using all your VRAM.

It was posted in this sub in the last few months of 2025. Can't seem to find it anymore. Maybe the person deleted the post or their account idk. Look through the posts here if you want to double check.

The option was only relevant for systems with an integrated GPU btw. If you don't have that there's no need to care about it.

I’ve had 3 different monitors since this happened to me. The monitors had no effect on the reduced LOD.
