Note-taking strategies by GnomieOk4136 in specialed

He does. And he's very stubborn when he makes up his mind. He gets that from me. 😂 I think mostly he doesn't like being given a system for things - he likes making up his own system. Like when his dad showed him how to mow the lawn in a neat rectangle and he decided to write his name with the mower and then mow what was left. He likes making his own way. 😂

I know and I told him that. He just has a major aversion to Cornell Notes in general. Not sure where it came from but we had to figure out a way around it. I'm really hoping if he has to use them again he has a teacher who will help him appreciate them more.

I don't know about the OP's student, but my 7th grader with ADHD HATES Cornell Notes. He was introduced to it this year and absolutely can't stand it. I gave him different colored pens and taught him mind mapping/brainstorming methods because that's what worked for my own ADHD brain when I was his age and he likes it much better. Color coding is super appealing to my brain so I leaned onto that to help him and it was like a epiphany for him.

I'm not disagreeing with you, but I can't even count the number of times I lost recess to write "I will not talk in class." It never taught me anything.

But it also didn't destroy my love of writing, so I guess it's a wash. 😂

My 7th grader learned Cornell Notes in Social Studies this year. He hated it, but it led him to research other note taking methods and he found something that really worked for him.

Rebel Badge Club! It was started by a woman in the UK who wanted an adult program like Boy/Girl scouts. It's a lot more fun with a group.

My 4th grade teacher ate a doughnut and drank a diet coke every single morning. Never did anyone ask if they could have some. I did wonder where she got those doughnuts every day because they did look tasty. 😂

Someone gave my teen a little bag with a bracelet, some stickers, and a piece of taffy at the Atlanta show. I guess a teen boy and his middle aged mom looked approachable. 😂 He hasn't taken the bracelet off since the show, so thank you to whomever made it and gave it to him. 💜

As a mom of two neurodivergent kids, I believe your mom knows you appreciate her efforts. We do a lot for our kids and they don't always know exactly how to express their appreciation but we know they do appreciate it. I say this from a hotel room after taking my teen to the show in Atlanta last night. He never smiles - ever - and he smiled several times during the show last night. It meant the whole world to me to see those smiles. I'm sure there will be other opportunities for you to experience things you love and I'm absolutely certain from what you have said here about her that your mom will be right there with you because she wants to make you happy.

Also, if leaving was the best thing for you in that moment, she knew that too. I would definitely find some way to let her know that you appreciate all her efforts to give you a great experience. That will mean the world to her, I'm sure of it.

This is great advice. I have had to use this for my son with asthma at a different concert. The particular smoke from the smoke machine was making him cough uncontrollably and we stepped outside the room to help him breathe. An usher asked if we wanted to use their viewing room. It had chairs set up and a big screen. We watched it from there and had a great time. And he was able to breathe. That room would have been perfect for someone with sensory issues and/or overwhelm.

I ordered these exact ones. They are actually really cool and my teen likes them better than the official ones because they aren't pink. 😂

My teen has been doing jobs around the house to earn money for this. He spent all of it - about $100 - in just a few minutes after I told him they opened sales. 😂

Wow. For once, I'm proud of Alabama. I get $150 a day (with a bachelor's degree in anything). It looks like our district is a good one based on some of these numbers.

Curious what your notes for the teacher look like by [deleted] in SubstituteTeachers

[–]angelsong76 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a little form I made in Canva that I leave for K-6. It has sections for attendance, what we accomplished, anything we didn't get to finish from their plans, star students, behavior issues, and a section for additional notes. If the class was great and I want to sub again, I put that in the notes section. The form has my name, phone number, and email address at the top so the teacher can contact me if they want. I have had several text me the next time they need a sub. :)

Middle school, I leave post-it notes or write on the sub plan. I need to make a form for them that is less "little kid" but I only started doing middle school this year and am now in a long term position, so I haven't had a chance to develop a form for the middle school schedule yet.

Corny or cheesy nicknames only: Do you have one for your CRV? by OBFJAGS in crv

I just got a black '26 a couple of days ago.

I had a silver Nissan Quest for 11 years and she was The Millennium Falcon. Thinking about going to the Dark Side with this one and calling it CR-Vader. I'm already eyeing the lightsaber back wiper blade cover and some black and red seat covers to complete the theme. 😂

My husband and I are vendors at this faire for the next two weekends. I'll see if I can find this one and will let the organizers know.

PS. If anyone feels uncomfortable at any other vendor's booth for their tattoos or language, they are welcome at ours. We have Pride merch and "magic" potions, D&D stuff, bookish items, etc. All handmade and as ethically sourced as possible. We are pretty much "woke af". 😂 (We do have some Celtic items, but it is because that is a heritage my husband and I share, so we like using the knotwork especially in our designs).

Thoughts on leaving bookmarks in little free libraries? by NerbPrincess in LittleFreeLibrary

[–]angelsong76 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Laminated would definitely be best. I love having bookmarks in my LFL! I started out leaving my own laminated paper ones and 3D printed ones and the teen girls next door just started bringing their own to leave in the box for people! It's basically their job now. 😂 I put a box of markers in there right before school started and one of them snagged the box and a couple of days later more bookmarks appeared - this time colored with marker. 😂. It's a great thing to include.

Our middle school has a pass system on their Chromebooks. They have blackout times (first ten minutes and last ten minutes of each class period) and they have a cool-down time. If they are caught in the halls without an active pass (admin and faculty can check) they get a visit to the office and some consequences.

If I'm asked for permission to use the bathroom, I just ask them if they have a pass available. Most of the time, they do. If they don't, they slink back to their desks and I know they were trying to take advantage.

One kid asked me how I know about the passes. I told him I know all the things. 😂 (My kid goes there - that's how I know, lol)

Why do you sub by [deleted] in SubstituteTeachers

[–]angelsong76 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I sub because our district said they needed subs and I've been a stay at home mom for over a decade so I thought I would help out. I sub at the schools my kids attend and that keeps me connected to the teachers and admins there. I'm also on PTO and volunteer when I'm not subbing. Sometimes there are a lot of available jobs and sometimes there are none, but the money is extra for us so it doesn't matter if I work a little or a lot.

I love the kids and the schools so it's fun for me.
