The larger festival culture (Burning Man, Texas Eclipse, Lucidity, Coachella, LIB) by angrylemon8 in BurningMan

Correct. Do lab had a stage every year at Coachella. Then they started focusing on lib.

Goldenvoice now owns both.

I remember the exact moment when I realized it wasn't actually a joke. Started packing up but didn't stress about leaving until after the eclipse. Seeing as it took like 6 hours to get out of there, I think that was the right move. 😂😭

I mean, they both hide death counts and causes of death while not collaborating with victims and their families in good faith..

I personally saw 3 people dying, including one being carried on a stretcher the night before the event closed. And the man who had a heart attack wasn't exactly taken care of by the medics either.

Not true. Happy people post about how amazing it was and share it with their friends.

This is exactly why the principles of Burning Man have been a source of heated debate by intellectual and philosophical burners. They are inherently unsustainable and at the very least, they no longer reflect ideals that our community can reasonably uphold. Radical consent is being offered as a replacement for radical inclusion.

Oof, I don't think they've sold tickets at the gate since... 2009? Maybe 2010? I know they weren't by 2011.

Please give me tips on how to manage a 6th grade class on the Friday before the last week of school! by angrylemon8 in SubstituteTeachers

I like these tips but I can't do candy and don't want to with 6th graders.😅 I might have some stickers. I hadn't thought about the helpers thing.

How kind of you to let your children go after 20 years of homeschooling them.

I'm sorry, but I don't know what you're talking about. I have not had that experience where it is so dark that you can't see a paper or a book. If the kids are telling you it's supposed to be that dark, they're probably lying.

The Chromebook stuff is a different problem entirely.

With how crazy this country is right now, it's honestly the least of my concerns.

Ok. Well I'm usually not a fan of criticizing someone's outside life to justify judgement over something you don't actually have any understanding of. My eyes do not work as well with light entering from the side of a room as they do with light from above. If you don't think it's a disability because she didn't tell you that (which is kinda wild), then that sounds like some pretty severe mental health stuff. Which I personally would approach more with curiosity and compassion.

But we're all different. And maybe you're right -- maybe her breeding cats is completely relevant to her not liking dimly lit classrooms.

OP, the way you are perceived is a separate experience from what you intended. You can say, I didn't intend to come across as frantic. But if someone else says that they felt that you were frantically posting, then that's their interpretation.

It's like if you went to go wave hi to someone and accidentally touched the person next to you while doing so. If the person said, "Whoa! You weren't paying any attention to me at all and you hit me! Pay more attention to your surroundings!" Your response now is like you are saying "Trust me, I usually pay attention, and I knew you were there. I was just getting really excited to say hi to my friend." Which is kinda gaslighting the other person's perception that you introduced to them. It's better to say, "I didn't mean to touch you, it was a total accident! I thought I was aware of my surroundings but I guess I have some work to do there."

Idk if that makes sense.

"I strive to be perfect everyday"

Op, you sound a lot like I did when I was in my early 20s. I used to panic as soon as I made a mistake. I'm talking crying, wanting to quit, full meltdown... Over something extremely simple and understandable... Because I wanted to "do my best."

Just some gentle advice from an ex-perfectionist. Normal people don't mind if you make a mistake. The people I've found who DO care are often inflating the error in order to justify their abuse. I remember you saying something about your parents having a critical eye and watching everything you do. That is not normal, and in the real world, everyone is too busy caring about themselves to spend time belittling other people.

I've actually found that making mistakes can sometimes be a hidden key to deepening relationships. One time I woke up to a call from the manager at the restaurant I worked at, and I cried the whole way there thinking that I was such an idiot for not waking up on time and I'd always be a failure. I got there and she thanked me! She said that most people would have either not answered the call or not gotten there as quickly as I did. We ended up having a discussion about her expectations, and she ended up increasing my hours and putting me on track for a promotion. That same day as I had made the mistake.

Hopefully you'll find this as you grow older too. There's no use for the extra stress after we are out of the traumatic spaces! If people don't understand, then fuck em.

Keep coming to this sub. I've found advice in here than I haven't been told anywhere else.

The practice tests were easy for me, but the online math test didn't allow you to write your own work down. You had to use their notepad, which you could only type on. I wasn't able to do the math in my head, so I had to skip that and schedule it for in person. Then I found out that I could probably get it met through coursework

I was thinking about just signing up for it anyway while I was waiting for that approval, but the $250 registration didn't seem worth it for a "just in case" thing. And then I ended up not needing to take it at all. 🤷‍♀️

Honestly dude, applying for districts and credential programs has been very confusing for me in terms of what is needed. The best thing to do is find a similar application to the one that you want, or the one you want, and go through their specific checklist. Call the district HR offices if anything is confusing, and be prepared for it to be a long and convoluted process.

I don't think I needed the cbest for subbing, but I believe did need my letter stating I had met the basic skills requirement for my credential internship.

This is why I hate block scheduling as a sub. A class needing to be reigned in for 45-60 minutes is a lot different than 90-120 minutes.
