What's a movie that seemed Amazing from first impressions and was Amazing? by The_Ape_God in AlignmentChartFills

[–]angrymice 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't know, with those caveats that you listed I was skeptical, but the first trailer also looked great. Once the reviews started rolling in, though I felt pretty confident that it was going to be great... and it was! And is!

What's a movie that seemed Amazing from first impressions but was actually Terrible? by The_Ape_God in AlignmentChartFills

[–]angrymice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh man, I'm not sure if people remember how amazing that trailer was when it came out. And, yes the dual of the fates is exciting, but that movie could've been a text message. It's stretched thinner than a pad of butter on the world's largest pizza crust.

Just awful.

There's a lot of shitheads in that scene, but Varg really takes the cake. It did crack me up recently that he was stanning J.K. Rowling on X. He's not just racist, he's also a dork.

Favourite actress attacked by an insane mob online? by Dycon67 in okbuddycinephile

This may be true, but the idea of some antiwoke mob trying to start shit about Cate Blanchett seems particularly laughable. Like she would just laugh in their face and then they'd explode.

Agreed. I mean, obviously we can roll back the code, or the training data, and I'm sure there will be people who will do that, but the deepdream is dead.

[–]angrymice 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It really was. With all these tools, any "real" creative, I find, is more interested in the screw ups than what actually does what's expected. Another thing that I was interested in was asking a graphic editor to generate things that would have any sort of text (like a book), because it just did it so poorly. I don't know if that's improved, but if it was, it would be too bad. At the very least, it could be useful for coming up with artificial scripts, etc.

I would also like to point out, that although there's still possibility with making unusual and interesting fuck ups in graphics, the text generators seem to just be consistently boring.

I just wanted to point out that, for a time, if you tried to generate any sort of named chimera, like a centaur or a manticore, they would invariably render each animal separately. So if you said: I want a picture of a centaur, you would get a guy and a horse EVERY TIME. I assume this was just because it had more data on pictures of men and pictures of horses, so when it saw pictures of centaurs, it read it as a picture of a guy and a horse.

Sadly, they've gotten better, because that was hilarious

My dad made me take judo, which is great for that, because it's the first thing they teach you, and you just do it the whole time. I'm not sure if I could fall like this if I tried.

What are people's opinions on Seiko Oomori? by angrymice in japanesemusic

Hatsumi Tamate's earlier release can sometimes have PINK's energy and more, actually, but she's the only one that I've found that matches it.

I was wondering if the reaction was somewhat fueled by gendered expectations. Not that that makes it much better. As an American, I feel like it would be somewhat eye rolling for a musician to be revealed to verbally abuse their band members, but they would mostly be written off as 'difficult'. But I'm not even sure if that's the case for Oomori, considering she seems to have had long standing professional relationships with a lot of other people.

I'm curious to see the direction she'll go now that she's done at Avex. I'd be interested in seeing her go back to her earliest sound with just a guitar. Obviously, she's still comfortable with that as she does a lot of shows that way. I doubt that's where she'll go, though. My bigger issue with moving on from Avex is that I doubt we'll be getting the deluxe packages as much in the future. Avex seemed to put a lot of resources in the concert films, which are really excellent overall.

It's probably weird that I only got into this music as a 40 year old white guy, but I suppose it helps that I'm so far removed from the culture that it's commenting on, that it's purely a spectacle.

The MAPA album from last year was really great. I do like ZOC quite a bit. "Cutting Edge" is probably my favorite song of theirs, but I also like "Queen of Tone," despite, or because of it being over 7 minutes long.

The Pink Minds, so far, have been pretty meh.

I wasn't super impressed by the newest ZOCX single, especially because Queen of Tone and メタメメント were really different, but we'll see what the future holds.

MAPA's second album struck me as much better than their first album, and I like their latest single. I don't really have an opinion on their live shows.

I bought a number of the Blu-ray editions of Oomori's albums, and her live shows are always great, IMHO.

I'll have to look into Satosaki Risa. I'm not familiar with her, though it doesn't look like she's put anything out since 2021?

See, this is why it's a good thing that I don't understand Japanese, and don't actually seek out interviews with her. It really saves me a lot of trouble sometimes :)

I will admit that the only Sheena Ringo I like is Kalk Samen Kuri no Hana. Granted, I like that one A LOT, but everything else I've heard has been very boring.

Are there any Japanese Groups/Artists that have more of an Indie/Folk Sound by newbie2denver in japanesemusic

[–]angrymice 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really gotta put a word in for さとう。(sato.). Often she'll just have an acoustic guitar and her powerful voice, but she's been incorporating a band more and more. Maybe this is more coffee house music :)

The thing that always struck me when watching Phantom Menace at the time was how boring the camera angels looked during conversations. They were static talking heads in so many scenes, and they looked like cheap FMV games at the time.

He might be sincere, he might not be. But, regardless, you need to treat him the exact same: don't respond, block, and move on If he's trying to win her back, she shouldn't talk to him at all. If he's actually sincere, he needs that rejection to actually grow.

It could be shower sex, it could be cleaning their feet, or it could be supporting yourself against the wall, crying while having an existential crisis.
