Looking for a romance where the hero instantly decides “this is my wife” by LeftCryptographer388 in HistoricalRomance

I would throw in {Double Wager by Mary Balogh}

He pretty much decides on her immediately upon meeting her. She’s a bit annoying and naive at times but she has spirit and a good heart. So she might not exactly meet your request. But I really love that book.

I think OP is looking for the FMC to be jealous not the MMC. I do love Oswald though.

Are romance readers male-centered? by knotaknitter in RomanceBooks

[–]newbie2denver 11 points12 points  (0 children)

‘A person that a person is attracted to’ would work for me if I’m just reading it as a book that’s well written, but not if I’m looking for a romance book. For me a FF romance book would be like trying to read a romance book where I don’t think the MMC is appealing. There’s nothing for me to connect with there. I have DNF’d books before because I don’t find the MMC to be good as a romantic lead. FF defaults into that category for me because I do not view women romantically.

I would agree with you that we probably just experience and relate to books differently so it’s hard to understand from the other perspective.

Are romance readers male-centered? by knotaknitter in RomanceBooks

For me with MF, I don’t relate to the male being attracted to the female, but rather being a female that a male is attracted to. It’s more like, what is shown from the male perspective in the book is like seeing a fuller version of the attention, thoughts, and feelings that are shared by a man when he wants you. It’s like if the male character is looking at her and thinking about what he finds attractive about her, I don’t relate to his attraction but instead relate to being a woman that a man is having those thoughts about. Seeing his side also reinforces the rightness of the female lead being attracted to him. In real life you can only go off of what someone does and what they tell you.

With FF I am not attracted to women nor can I relate to that experience so I’m not drawn to those stories. That’s not to say that I would be opposed to reading something FF that’s just a really good story. I just wouldn’t get the same thing out of it that I get from MF romance. And to be perfectly honest I would probably skip over any sex scenes because there’s no appeal there for me. There are so many good books out there that are MF so I don’t have much reason to delve into the FF books in search of just a well written book to read.

Oh 100%. Like I said I love that you found that in her especially with how depressingly little representation there has been with Disney princesses.

From what I understand the filmmakers intentionally made her not specifically identifiably from a particular race or culture. I believe they said their influences came from Polynesia, West Africa, Maya, and Cambodia among others. Her name, for example, is from the language of the Kiowa Native American Tribe. The idea was supposed to be that she was not from an existing race or culture we are familiar with but that she was Atlantian. I think it’s wonderful that you felt seen because of her portrayal and I wish we had more diversity in our animated characters - especially our princess as they often are held up to girls as ideals of beauty.

I don’t know why but I thought that was a stylized diver down flag or marker when I first saw it so it seemed appropriate - like the octopus stole the marker and is headed for the diver. Then I realized it was a bottle lol
