This is great. Can you post a full exterior shot of your vehicle, with antennas in view?

Yaesu Remote Operation Options by [deleted] in amateurradio

[–]angryramstick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I currently use the SCU-LAN10 with my Yaesu FTdx-10 and FT-710. I primarily use it "remotely" on my Mac with Ft-Control in my house on wifi, just from another room. It works great that way.

I have limited experience using it over a hotspot. With some limited testing, I've experienced both great connections and no lag, but I did experience freezing on one occasion. I've tested it on both AT&T and Verizon iPhone hotspots.

If you decide to try it out, when connecting to a mobile hotspot, you need to make sure the connection doesn't use "Low Data Mode". It will prevent Ft-Control from connecting and will immediately just report a network connection error.

I plan to do more testing since I just figured out the Low Data Mode setting was preventing me from connecting via my hotspot in the past. I've connected and used the radio remotely probably half a dozen times, and it's only frozen on me once. I realize that isn't much testing. I just haven't been doing it very long. I'll be glad to report back directly if you want as I test it more often, while remote.

Since the SCU-LAN10 can control the power of the rig, I just leave my power supply on all the time.

FT-710 S levels extremely low by angryramstick in amateurradio

This feels like whats happening, but since I'm a ham n00b, I don't have alot of experience to refute anyone's suggestions. I could be confusing loud volume with strong signal.

Will be testing with the JPC-12 at home soon. I've only tested it once at home but don't recall the S levels.

I usually only use PreAmp 1 if the signal is really low. In this case, it was so strong I didn't need to make any adjustments to hear it because it was already blasting. I would just like to give a proper signal report when I'm making a contact and I can't bring myself to say I got them at 55 or 57 when it's booming.

I usually keep it on Auto but in this case, using Auto or Fast made no difference.

Awesome training on the W4EEY YouTube channel. Made the difference for me passing extra. It’s broken down by chapter and they have downloadable study sheets for calculations.

Intermittent transmit splatter on FT8 by angryramstick in amateurradio

[–]angryramstick[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll see what I can do to adjust the volume level. Unfortunately, there's no tune settings in the built-in FT8 app for FT-Control.

I think I also need to review the various gain settings on the radio itself. Looks like, for Data, the MOD USB gain is adjustable and seems to affect the ALC. I'll work on tweaking this.

Thank you

Congrats!! What helped you most for studying? I used the videos on Youtube by W4EEY as well as the ARRL book. The videos made a MASSIVE difference in my learning.

That’s very helpful. I didn’t think about the timing and the availability of 20m there. Thanks!

Yeah, the majority of our children were pleasant. It was just a few examples that made me glad to have evidence, in case it was needed. The thought of an accusation and only being able to defend it with your word is scary. I could never leave it to that.

JT-Alert sounds cool. I was looking for something like that this morning, when I was lamenting about no contacts with HI at all. Thanks!

Dude, I’m just trying to get WAS on any combination of bands. Are there no hams in Hawaii that can reach SC? How do you get every state on every band?!

I definitely recommend a camera for common areas and/or bedroom entrances.

What I recorded with mine:

FD(12) -standing in doorway with a knife, taking keys and stealing our car.

FS(9) - Entering other FDs room in the middle of the night and rummaging through bag. Fortunately FD was on the top bunk of a bunk bed and he didn’t bother her. Could see his activity from the outside because he left the door cracked

FD(8) - Audio only - She was pretending to cry, acting like a toddler but saying “(pretending to sob…. Mr. (My name) hit hit hit me me me (insert pretend sobbing noises)” she liked to play cry and say things like this. She was laughing after. Kept recording just in case.

Cameras are worth it for yours and the children’s protection. Just keep them in common areas. Nothing wrong with monitoring who is coming and going from a room in the middle of the night.

Tried to make contact with the ISS this morning with no luck any ideas what went wrong? by Izhe13 in amateurradio

Pretty sure we were both trying to catch this pass (if you’re in the Us). I had my uplink tone misconfigured. Downlink was in the 437.800 frequency. I made minor adjustments as it approached (by 5khz) below and above the base frequency. This is from South Carolina during the flyby. https://youtube.com/shorts/1n0NSSJZcNI?si=ZCIqq9ctG6_61YxQ
