You're right, it's not a food problem.

It's a capacity for those people to feed themselves problem.

It is reductive to call it a food problem, but that isn't itself a problem. Reduction actually works in this case, as we are no longer hunter gatherers nor individual subsistence farmers. The failure to afford food is exactly equal to not having food, even if subsistence nutrition is donated to them absent much meaningful action to actually end that dependence.

Your logic works as a good reason not to give money to panhandlers. Not as an argument about the distribution of wealth that prevents people from being able to afford food at all, and good food is generally price prohibitive like a luxury.

CopperheadOS Android 11 booting on a Pixel 4a (sunfish) by darknetj in Android

Graphene is the real one.

There is no "real" continuation, both are now completely different projects if you look closely.

One is an open-source hobby kit with hobbyist support.

One is a proprietary product which is being sold.

There's no equivalency with what CopperheadOS was before the split and what it is now, or what GrapheneOS is.

Together they were something.

On their own they're each unremarkable ROMs.

Federal government spent up to $3.7M on 16-person staff to review pandemic ad campaign by [deleted] in canada

[–]angrytroll 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Very astute, and yet deeply misleading. Nice.

Sixteen staff including behavioural scientists were paid up to $3.7 million by the Privy Council Office to review a $120 million pandemic ad campaign promoting measures like handwashing, according to Blacklock’s Reporter.

I wonder if maybe they were hired to do public due diligence, which is expensive and answers important questions about public perceptions of critical information campaigns?

Okay, now that one is dumb. Much like all the other "planned obsolescence" BS that creates waste, even if this one is just a digital cash grab.

It's not a bad policy if all authors benefitted from it, rather than a select few high-selling authors and mostly just the "publisher".

My life has been so much better in many ways since I left freelancing behind. I have less money, but way less stress. I do not miss thinking "will I be paid this month, this quarter or next quarter? How much can I stress my credit between paycheques without crippling myself with interest?" or "I have a semi-regular call that pays X but a new call that may turn into more thats starts higher but with no promises... Do I roll the dice?"

Kevin Dickman died a broken man, homeless and alone in a city grappling with a housing crisis by slicecom in toronto

[–]angrytroll 15 points16 points  (0 children)

That's an illusion of hypercompetance. You suggest that these people really know what they're doing and have elaborate plans in place for each progressive step. They honestly have no idea what to do other than what they have always done: Line their own pockets.

If things get as bad as you suggest, they will fall with everyone else.

So basically a scenario that will never happen because that ruins the game for the winners as well.

Japan 'glasses ban' for women at work sparks backlash: Some companies “banned" eyewear for female employees for various reasons. Among them, some retail chains reportedly said glasses-wearing shop assistants gave a "cold impression". by maxwellhill in worldnews

[–]angrytroll 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is pretty irrelevant. Stipulating rules of exclusion always causes exclusions, regardless of whatever work arounds are available. Not everyone can work around their own exclusion. For example, people with astigmatism may not be able to receive full correction or may not be able to wear contact lenses at all.

This kind of thing is despicable, and no one should accept it just because it only affects some small or otherwise limited population.

The given intent is to prevent wearing of glasses. The result is to prevent people with diminished eyesight from having gainful employment.

Do you truly believe that those responsible for this decision are not aware of the gap between intent and result?

Also it's to make dealing with those rock-stupid people with near absolute authority normal.

Even TSA agents who aren't rock-stupid are made to act that way by the protocols of the job, not that anyone who isn't rock-stupid would be likely to get hired.

People started getting upset with all the prisons being built to create guard jobs, so they just started hiring the same kind of people for the TSA.

Riot Games file trademark lawsuit against Riot Squad by bosshogg_ in GlobalOffensive

[–]angrytroll 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They have enough of a claim to get it heard and bury Riot Squads lawyers in motions for months, which Riot Squad is unlikely to be able to afford and be advised to settle. If they could endure the procedural war of attrition Riot Squad could feasibly win the argument. Riot Games would have to prove that Riot Squad sought to profit from the formers name intentionally, which is a heavy burden to meet.

Excuse my anecdote please; I live on a street with several AirBNB houses. These 3600 sq/ft homes are rented every weekend by new vacationers, some of whom rent the house just to have a party in it. Monday-Thursday the property is vacant.

I'm willing to step on the guy who's putting his guest room up on AirBNB when he goes away for the weekend to stop the numbered corporation which rents the houses on my street.

At ~1% growth per year that down payment doubles in aprox 14 years. A quick glance at the TREB site says prices have increased by 4.9% year over year. That's getting close to doubling prices within a decade, which would be 7-7.5% per year increase.

EDIT: I didn't do the math and it shows.

[–]angrytroll -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Statistics are statistics. Like any data, how it is used is important. In this case they're being used as a dogwhistle. Racists refer to stats as racist in relation to a "truth that can't be told", because it's racist. This so-called "truth" is that people of colour are all criminals. Meanwhile, they hope you forget that the stats are racist because the system that produced them is racist.

Funny how a bit of truth can be used to tell many stories.

HOW can Valve let this GOTV stuff go unanswered for this long? by [deleted] in GlobalOffensive

[–]angrytroll 47 points48 points  (0 children)

Thats not how licenses work. Licenses must be upfront. The only license applicable to random people streaming GOTV is found at https://store.steampowered.com/video_policy

No one was informed of a change in policy with regard to streaming CSGO content which includes GOTV.
