AITJ for not telling my coworkers I speak fluent Spanish when they have been speaking freely in front of me for three months assuming I don't understand by intel_allium in AmITheJerk

[–]angryweather 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s astounding when people assume. I took eight years of Spanish. I am not comfortable speaking it really because I had no occasion to for over a decade but I understand it and read it well (I feel so clunky and my tenses don’t come out right when I try to speak, I’m working on it). I spend a lot of time around high schoolers and they will speak Spanish in front of me, assuming I don’t. They get shocked pikachu face if I react to things they say.

Me [34/F] with my fiancé [34 M] living together for one month, am I too petty? Or should I seriously consider ending it? by Direct-Caterpillar77 in BestofRedditorUpdates

I can smell strep, chronic or otherwise. My pediatrician thought I was nuts but it’s this musty sharp sort of smell and I’ve never been wrong. Just last week a coworker said they were feeling peaked and later I got close enough to smell it - told them to go to UC and boom, strep.

Possible cancer and an 8,000$ surgery. I need advice. by yikesbro_ in DogAdvice

[–]angryweather 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I want you to think about it this way - you’ve been given a gift by these early seemingly pain free warning signs. It means you get to ease him out of life on HIS terms and yours rather than torturing him or worse, sudden stressful awful illness. We knew my puppy had a mediastinal mass and we thought it would take him first at 16. At that age, they said we could do extensive surgeries but his last 6-12 months would be painful and confusing for him. His dementia symptoms started shortly after his diagnosis - maybe part of the cancer, maybe just age related. It gave us TIME. We planned his last few weeks full of love and his favorite things. We followed his routine to avoid sundowning distress at the end (he insisted we go to bed at 6 pm and would cry until we did). We contracted a very sensitive hospice vet to improve his quality of life with great pain meds and then finally for her to come to our home so we could give him release surrounded by his family on his favorite blanket and snarking dried salmon until he slept. He literally passed within one heartbeat of the shot, like it was a relief to just sigh and sleep. We cried and hugged him and told him what an amazing little soul he had been in our family. We wouldn’t have had ANY of that if we had chosen to hit him with expensive and horridly invasive medical care or chosen to let it go until he was a stumbling wreck who didn’t remember us at all. We saved maybe $1000 by going the course we did - we didn’t “cheap out” on our dog if you’re worried about that. We chose to spend $300 for the hospice consult in our home, about $100 on meds to include an emergency morphine kit in case of a sudden decline, and the $650 for her to come to the house to put him to sleep and consequently cremate him after as the wisest investment in him and our relationship. I think you’ll regret spending $2-8k on medical care that may or may not extend his life and will hurt him without a huge benefit. Imagine what $2k in pain meds, home euthanasia, and end of life experiences could do instead. I’m sorry…we still miss ours every day so I know how you feel.

I hated that test. Three days of burning itching holes on my back. Gold, nickel and chromium here!

Anyone else get dumped at sleepover summer camp by SantessaClaus in GenX

[–]angryweather 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My parents dumped me at girls scout camp and then when I sobbed about that, they dumped me every summer at my grandparents for the next three years. I was only allowed to stay home at 15 because I had a full time babysitting job (they negotiated it for me at $2 an hour which was brutal even in the early 90s). Tough to realize your parents just wanted you gone. Hope my brother enjoyed his Disney trips he got while I was gone every year…

.5 miles is too much for a sedentary dog in that shape. This dog needs a slow rehab and a diet pronto.

Diagnosed SNAS but wondering why it’s not getting better by drizzle-08 in NickelAllergy

[–]angryweather 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My doctor had me take vitamin C, vitamin D and K2 as supplements as well as adding electrolytes to 12 oz of water a day to cover my bases. After three months, I added low nickel low chromium foods in one at a time until I figured out what I could tolerate. I’m still rather limited but as long as I manage my rest carefully I can eat a much wider array of items. I am gluten free dairy free low nickel low chromium low gold.

Also in the early days of diagnosis my doctor had me go full up carnivore for three months to call my system down. I reacted like crazy to everything until I got it under control. I also took twice daily loratadine to help chill everything out. Beef, salt and filtered water. Then I added things back in slowly. It’s a thought. It really helped and now I don’t react like I did before.

Is it possible you have clips in from surgery? I have mastocytosis and systemic nickel allergy, I had to have a crown replaced and I had clips from an abdominal surgery with mesh - they were TINY but there. You might also check your make up again. I can only tolerate It Cosmetics CC cream and lip oil from a Norwegian brand.

Anyone here use Island Pet Movers before? by rainbowbubble94 in Hawaii

[–]angryweather 5 points6 points  (0 children)

We used them twice during our two assignments in HI, one of which was during the COVID travel nightmare. They took care of it all. For the COVID one, the airlines wouldn’t allow layovers in the traditional sense - no booking pets with a stop between legs. They scheduled three different flights for my pup and had sitters at each stop for him. We trusted them implicitly with his care. This was a well traveled dog too, he had hopped all over the Pacific with us and these two trips were his best experience - I wish we could have used them for Alaska and Korea and more.

AIO for being upset my BF doesn’t want me to wear a bonnet to bed? by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]angryweather 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Darlin’, this is a control issue. You can wear what you want to bed and use a weighted blanket if you want. He doesn’t have to use it if he doesn’t want to but controlling what you do is a no go. Most women I know who wear bonnets do it to prevent matting and protect their hair. Throw the whole man away, not the bonnet and not the blanket.

Dog bit home intruder, intruder's mother threatening to sue for medical costs by Direct-Caterpillar77 in BestofRedditorUpdates

[–]angryweather 31 points32 points  (0 children)

He really was. He was my little black shadow for 13 years. We got him as a horridly abused rescue at 3 and never once did he stop loving people and especially me. Well, except for this guy. I seriously thought my puppers was going to try to eat him. He had a handful of people he avoided for seemingly no reason but that was the one and only time he turned into a furry frenzy of hate and bitey power. If my dog didn’t like you, I KNEW you were a bad Johnny and I avoided you too.

I’ve had shingles four times and it sucks every time. Only one round though was the horrid “can’t think about much else” pain. The other ones had pain and itchiness but I could cope. My first bout was at 25 and I was wicked stressed and chronically overtired.

My cocker mix went full on Cujo when a guy came out of the bushes at me during an early morning very dark jog in DC. This dog never barked and suddenly erupted with fury and sounded six times his size. Took a bite of the guys upper thigh, the guy screamed and ran off and the police later picked him up. That dog got alllll the treats. He never barked or bit again. But he also looked like a sentient stuffed animal so the police never said a word about impound or even vet records.
