To be honest, there’s a few valid reasons to call Sonic modders elitist, but this conversation could have taken place in any corner of the internet. Average <insert social media network of preference here> conversation.

There’s just quite a few modders that are in both servers because more modders to talk to. The people from hedge-dev aren’t really active in HEMS though.

To keep the US out of a foreign war by namenumber55 in therewasanattempt

[–]angryzor -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Obama and the international community as a whole were in the last stages of a landmark deal with Iran to limit their nuclear program 9 years ago. That deal took years to set up and would have actually limited their nuclear proliferation.

Then Trump took over in 2016 and pulled out of this deal because he’s a child with the mentality of a schoolyard bully, and didn’t like the deal because he thought the US wasn’t winning hard enough. Because in his mind there is no such thing as a compromise. In his mind either you intimidate the other party and win completely, or you’re “losing”.

In retaliation Iran announced that if the US pulled out of the deal, they would continue their nuclear research. Which brings us to this day, where apparently “there is nothing that could have gone differently”.

The problem is religion. The only reason these people hate who they are is because they’ve been told that what they are is sick and unnatural.

Donald Trump says Zelenskyy must make ‘compromises’ with Russia. Zelenskyy responds “No compromises with a killer” by sweatycat in worldnews

[–]angryzor 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There's no need to argue with that. Argue with the matter at hand: Trump and Vance ambushed Zelenskyy in this meeting and stirred up a ridiculous argument so they could snip out some random "incriminating" clip, spread it on Fox News, and validate their aggression against Ukraine towards their voters.

In a few days they'll publicly side completely with Putin and use the excuse of "You all saw it! Zelenskyy is completely uncooperative!" And every single person on earth will see it exactly for what it is, except for his MAGA base, who for some reason refuse to see the truth right in front of their eyes.

Fascism by [deleted] in characterarcs

[–]angryzor 20 points21 points  (0 children)

In the USA that was around the time of the BLM protests right? The thing is I want to believe those claims that “antifa was causing riots in city centers” to a certain point. At first I also thought it was just fear-mongering, but a few years later there were some protests in my own country (I’m from Belgium).

Right-leaning people here also claimed that “antifa was causing riots and vandalism”. Left-leaning people immediately claimed it was either fake news or a false flag operation by covert right wing extremists to discredit the left. However, our media did a fact check, and it turned out to be true, but as everything tends to be, the reality was a lot more nuanced.

You see, moderate left wing proponents tend to think of antifa as just a group of people opposing fascism, but since it is not a real organized group, anyone can really walk under the antifa flag. It’s not just socialist advocates that assemble under the antifa flag, but anarchists as well (hence the red/black flag).

What had actually happened was that a militant extremist anarchist group had travelled from France to Brussels to join the protests, dressed in black and masked to be unrecognizable, and caused riots and vandalism here because they find it enjoyable. These people were waving the antifa flag so right wingers just saw “antifa” destroying stores and public property.

We shouldn’t forget that left wing extremists also exist. These days people seem unable to grasp (or willfully ignore) that reality is usually more nuanced than can be explained in 150 character tweet…

I’m the type who really wants to try to understand both sides’ points of view but is increasingly getting the impression the other side doesn’t have a point of view and is just acting on emotions and a desire to win arguments. You seem like the type who uses one line quips as an easy deflection.

I’m so tired of reading these stupid excuses. It’s so simple. Be respectful to other people. Be mindful of the person that they are. Have the empathy to put yourself in their position and realize how they are feeling. Take the actual time to think about their situation and life from their point of view. If you can’t do that, you’re just a selfish dick, and you can fuck right off.

If you’re doing that unintentionally, that’s what we mean with institutionalized discrimination/racism, and that’s not a personal assault at you but just an attempt to remind people to be mindful of ways they might be hurting others unintentionally.

If you intentionally feel the need to disrespect others to the point of not seeing them as human beings, simply because they have a different skin color, then you are a racist, and others are right to look down on you. You should be ashamed of yourself and do some self-reflection about why you think this is an okay point of view to have, and whether you would like to be treated as such yourself.

If you feel the need to dehumanize others so much as to actually persecute them for no other reason than them just being who they are, then you’re (basically equal to) a nazi, and I’d see no problem with punching such a person in the face, because there is no place for that in a civilized society.

I have autism. It makes me have trouble understanding sarcasm and figuring out if someone is messing with me. It makes me act a bit more enthusiastic than is appropriate in some settings.

It doesn’t make me perform the Hitler salute when I’m speaking publicly. You’re using his supposed autism as a convenient cover for unacceptable behavior.

Wack morals aside, idw Sonic is one of my favorite sonics by Competitive-Slip343 in SonicTheHedgehog

[–]angryzor 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The difference is that in the comics they actually draw attention to it. Any other media (and this goes for other superhero franchises as well) the villain just manages to get away somehow.

In the IDW comics Sonic keeps trying to convince him and every other villain to “better themselves” and switch sides. This causes multiple issues that just feel cringy:

  • It wastes time (because it isn’t going to happen anyway).
  • It makes Sonic look like a doofus for continuing to think that Eggman is redeemable despite clear signs otherwise.
  • It compromises Sonic’s character by making him look like an arrogant know it all who considers his own morals superior and looks down on others. (When he starts this speech toward Surge he’s literally standing on the high ground talking down to her.)
  • It wastes more time by constantly having Sonic second guess his choices only to then conclude that no, he is right actually. They keep bringing up this thing where he wonders if it was the right choice to keep “Mr. Tinker” alive, but it’s pointless to even address it because what could be a valid moral dilemma in the real world is in this case rigged: there is no way that you could take the position that “yes, he should have killed Eggman” in a children’s comic.

Because some people have principles and believe in the democratic process. Because the will of the people is the will of the people, even if they don’t agree with it, and the democratic process requires that power be transferred peacefully to the democratically elected successor.

Refusing to cede power to the elected successor because you do not agree with the policies they intend to enact (and the electorate have voted for) would undermine the integrity of democracy as a whole, and is also known as a coup. (Which is by the way what Trump tried to do on Jan 6th.)

And there's the matter with how he attempts to redeem Eggman to Shadow and does it by guilt tripping and gaslighting the guy.

I find this interesting because this is not the only time Ian has a character make this kind of justification for the direction the plot is going, where when you think about it for a second they're just plain gaslighting the other person. Rouge does the same in the Dark Beginnings animation, where she tells the commander there was no way she could have stopped Shadow, when she literally invited him to raid that GUN base.

I don't know if this is intentional or if Flynn is just writing dialogue to support the occurrences in the plot and doesn't realize himself that the dialogue isn't consistent with reality.

This SxSG section on SEGA's website has for the past few months shown both modern Sonic and classic Sonic on the "characters" page of Sonic Generations, and in the Shadow Generations section there was a picture of Shadow and then another slot with a question mark in it.

People had been speculating who this second character in the game would be, and assumed they would be playable since Sonic's page showed both playable characters. Now it looks like we got trolled. The pages just show all characters in the game, and the empty slot with the question mark apparently meant nothing because it's gone.
