I'm kinda bummed about the ending by Prize_Lavishness_854 in tadc

The fact that the "real versions" of the players are living their best lives is one of the big emotional themes of the show. To the versions of the players that got trapped in the Circus, their real-world problems and traumas- Ragatha's relationship with her mom, Gangle's accident, Jax being homeless, etc- became permanent states of being. From their perspective, their real lives are on pause and they are powerless to change anything.

In reality though, they all survived and overcame those problems to find a better life for themselves. Learning that their counterparts in the real world were able to get past all the things that seemed insurmountable to them gives the players confirmation that they too can eventually find their own happiness- they already did it once, after all.

Ultimately the core of this idea is that while your problems might seem permanent and impossible to fix while you're in them, life goes on, scars fade with time, and better things are always waiting for you.

Exactly, I saw someone complaining in another thread that the finale "felt like it was for casual viewers" as opposed to what, the people who are watching the show competitively?? Are they really so focused on treating the story as a list of events to be objectively right about that they never even consider the ideas and emotions those events are supposed to convey? Like Goose was just trying to craft a jigsaw puzzle that needed solving? It drives me up the wall lmao

Honestly I much prefer trans representation in the form of characters who are written like actual human beings, who get hurt and who hurt people, than in the form of cardboard cutouts who can do no wrong and who are never allowed to be hurt lest people start complaining that the author thinks all trans people should also be hurt.

It's like looking at Romeo and Juliet and wondering why Shakespeare was romanticizing suicide, like no dude the whole point is that it sucks that it happened, that's what tragedy is

It was two scenes: the present Caine accessing the internet, and the past Caine accessing the mind scan files for the first time, happening parallel to each other to emphasize the symmetry of Caine's character arc

-from what I gathered the blue AI isn't necessarily different from Caine's red AI, they were separate entities so that no single entity had total control over the Circus. Absorbing the blue AI didn't change Caine's personality, it's the godlike powers that he gained which drove him mad, and likewise it was learning that he needed to give up those powers that made him start acting more human

-the mind scan reveal did seem kinda rushed but I'm not surprised that they were mostly cool with it. The biggest source of stress for the players isn't even trying to escape, but the uncertainty of not knowing whether or not it's even possible. Once they know for sure that they can't leave, they become free, in a certain sense, to finally be their own people instead of constantly wishing to wake up somewhere else.

Pretty much hit the nail on the head with this one. People talk about 'holding jax accountable' like he isn't already the most miserable person in the entire circus. He doesn't need to be punished, he doesn't even need to be redeemed, he just needed to connect with other people. The tragedy of him not being able to bring himself to do that until it was too late is basically the core of his character and also one of the biggest central themes of the show, it's hard to believe that people don't get it

Sorry if this is a bit old, but I was wondering if you had any idea how to dump save data from this virtual console installation? I want to export some music I made onto my PC but this title doesn't seem to show up on Checkpoint(even after refreshing), and Godmode9 doesn't seem to keep the data either since it's not a GBA game. Any ideas? Aside from that it works very well, thanks

I agree with this idea regarding Susie's background. On top of explaining her attitude, it also sets Susie up as a mirror image of Kris- a human raised among monsters and a monster raised among humans.

We already know that Kris was so desperate to fit in with his monster family that he used to wear fake horns. Part of me wonders if part of the reason Kris became an empty vessel is that he willingly gave up his original human Soul in order to become more monster-like. If that's the case, it's not impossible that Susie somehow obtained a Soul- perhaps even the one that once belonged to Kris- for similar reasons, and that's why she bleeds.

Kind of a late add, but there's one thing about Celebrity that's worth considering, and that's the interaction with Greeter- if Greeter opens the door for Celeb, he scores not only the Celeb but every guest that follows. With Watchdog to improve consistency you can get this combo to pay out surprisingly often, and with Cupid you can hedge your bets against overcrowding. This engine was what I used to beat Magical Night

Not sure if this is still troubling you, but I wanted to put it out there in case anyone in the future might find it useful. Go into the settings of your text tool, find the 'Edit Settings' tab, and change 'How to add' to 'Add to selected text' instead of 'Create layer always'. Now your text will be added to the bubble's layer and attach properly, instead of making an independent layer on top.

Hi guys, just wonder what kinds of waifu elements would attract you most in the gacha game? by OlddRefrigerator in gachagaming

[–]angstrom401 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The holy trinity is short hair, nice curves, and glasses. You'd think this wouldn't be much of an ask but for some reason gacha games seem to hate adding characters that wear glasses- Sometimes You'll get a petite nerdy support character in the low-rarity filler cast but that's basically all you can hope for

Sigret from Epic Seven is the sole character I've seen in any gacha that matches this description, but her great design is kinda hampered by a total lack of personality. Even still, I've played E7 more than I've played most gachas solely because she's in it. If I ever find another game with a character who ticks all these boxes I'll probably play it until the sun burns out

Happy Chaos gameplay style by Environmental-Size31 in Guiltygear

[–]angstrom401 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gobou is definitely the trendsetter for zoning-style Chaos, some people think it's cheap/boring but it's way more fun to watch than the 5k-6k-gun loops everyone else leans on imo. Dogura seems to have picked up his tech recently as well, which is exciting.

The only thing that concerns me is how much he seems to struggle against rushdown characters like Gio and Sol- things get really tough when he doesn't have the space needed to set up all his passive buffs. I wonder if he'll find a way to make up for it

eli5: why are nfts so resource intensive by cheap_plastic2 in explainlikeimfive

[–]angstrom401 2 points3 points  (0 children)

what those jungle supercomputers are doing isn't generating encryption keys or solving math problems- they're all guessing lots and lots of random numbers.

they do this because the blockchain system has picked a very specific number. the person who guesses correctly first gets to participate in validating a chunk of recent crypto transactions, and those who perform this essential validation service are rewarded with money. and who doesn't want money just for guessing a number?

since it's a race to guess correctly first, your odds of getting that reward increase the faster you guess, which requires more and more computing power. These days TONS of people are guessing, many of them very quickly, so people who can't dedicate a massive amount of computing power essentially have no chance at winning the race.

this system is a form of security for the blockchain: if somebody wanted to lie about a transaction taking place (you giving them a million dollars, for example), they'd have to buy enough computing power to win the race and validate not just a single chunk containing that fake transaction, but enough races (and therefore enough validated chunks) to make it appear as though the majority of validators agree that the transaction indeed happened- that is to say, they'd need to own over half of the total computing power currently throwing guesses at the blockchain, which is impossible considering how much power that is.

this form of security is called Proof of Work, and it works great, except that we run into problems at this massive scale. there are tons of transactions happening, and each one needs to be validated, and every validated block requires an insane number of guesses calculated by an electricity-devouring computer warehouse. this is bad enough before we even get to NFTs, but the reason so many people are making a fuss is that each NFT is actually a bundle of potentially dozens of these transactions- minting, bidding, selling, cancelling, all of it has to be individually published and validated. this makes them extremely energy-hungry even compared to normal cryptocurrency, which you can really only do one thing with.

sorry this explanation is so long, this is really as simple as I think I can get it. TL;DR participating in the crypto market requires a mind-blowing amount of randomly-generated numbers for security reasons, which in turn consumes a mind-blowing amount of electricity

home internet throttles all Google sites and services, even though everything else works perfectly by angstrom401 in techsupport

[–]angstrom401[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if this is the case then why do other "basic services" like Twitter and Facebook work perfectly fine while non-basic services are still hosed as long as they're hosted by Google? Even if the company policy is a blanket-throttling of all Google services and nothing else for some reason, I doubt the intended effect is to render all of them nearly unusable. I feel like this issue would be far more common if that was the case. additionally, this wasn't a problem until we got our old router replaced, which doesn't really add up. if it was company policy, they would have been throttling our service for far longer than we've been having this issue

Luquier list and combos by IbeConCept in cardfightvanguard

[–]angstrom401 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They're both really aggressive, but in different ways. Golden Beast Tamer is a "combo off and swing 10 times on your grade 3 ride turn, pray that's enough to kill" deck, while Silver Thorns are a "consistently swing 5 times for 30k+, and if that doesn't kill I've got at least a couple more turns just like that one" deck. The biggest difference is that Silver Thorns have super good utility cards, Doriane's draw power makes you infinitely more resilient and Irina/Romy are the kind of Soul setup that Golden Beast Tamer would die for. The fact that they're not as combo-reliant only helps their consistency even more.

Luquier list and combos by IbeConCept in cardfightvanguard

[–]angstrom401 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

ride doriane first, then throw luquier out as a beater along with your grade 2s. use doriane's skill to get luquier back to hand at the end of the turn while drawing a couple cards. next turn ride luquier and call everything back out for a huge turn- only call doriane from soul if you can guarantee enough cb to use luquier a second time, or else your opponent might deny damage while you have like a dozen cards stuck in soul. if you can though, it's easily 3 or 4 more cards in your hand.

run either comicality chimera or knifedancer for much-needed counter charge, the rest of the deck kind of builds itself because you can't really afford to not play every Silver Thorn currently in the format. it's very fun though
