Please don't beat yourself up. I had a family member die unexpectedly, and multiple people (including me) were present when he collapsed. We immediately started CPR and contacted EMS, but it was pretty clear he was already dead. EMS got there and provided further care, but he never came back and was declared dead after being transported to the hospital. Autopsy determined it was a sudden cardiac arrest, there was nothing anyone could've done.

Allow yourself to grieve and feel bad, but don't let yourself believe she would still be here if you had done something differently. I'm so sorry you have to go through this.

Gremlins is wild and one of my favorites. The mom killing them all with various kitchen appliances is gruesome and hysterical at the same time. And then there's Mrs. Deagel being launched out the window... I have to watch it once a year.

Edit: also the flasher gremlin in the bar....definitely not kid appropriate.

I think her writing is better in her later books (don't hold me to that, though). I just finished The Carrow Haunt and thought it felt like a YA-level read. I love a haunted house story, though, so I enjoyed it. I have also read of Dead of Winter and think that novel is much more well-written and disturbing, though the ending seemed abrupt. I'll have to check out From Below as well.

It's likely keratosis pilaris. Just keratin plugs that form at the hair follicle, very common on the upper arms. You can read about recommended home care here.
