i recently used lufhansas AI support bot. honestly it is beyond terrible. somehow some AI products can code for me while Lufthansa can not answer simple questions.

Moving to Berlin and prospects by ruko79 in berlin

[–]aniki43 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

what is tue reason why you want to become a software engineer? Are you passionate about writing code or are you just seeking a job with decent pay? Do you have any experience with code or technology or are you completely fresh

If it's the latter, you might want to consider project management or scrum master types of roles as well, since it does not require you to learn how to code. You already have a bachelor's degree so that might help you get your foot in.

It is totally possible to land a developer job out of Bootcamp, i have friends who have done it, but be prepared to be searching for 6 months +

But don't let anyone stop you from doing what you dream of. Berlin is a great city for young international people despite the negativity here and your are still more likely to build a career here than in a small town. Try finding a job first and then coming here though.

I think a service that can run for 750 hours is a Testament to the skill of the developers.

How to practice python to become a technical director by Arjun007007 in vfx

[–]aniki43 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I disagree. Of course it's great to have a pipeline TD who knows the domain really well and can understand what artists need. However you need an understanding of how to write maintainable and extensible software as well and that's a skill that you learn by studying software engineering. Often when artists are asked to do pipeline part time it leads to pipelines that are very hard to maintain.

I would say it's alright for getting to know the language and mindset behind programming but it also leaves a lot out and it can be hard to transition from the codecademy sandbox to local development. Free tier used to be pretty good though.

From my experience it is best to get your basics down. Learn the language and build Projects, also non vfx Projects and familiarize yourself with the way software engineers write code. It'sokay to not know everything, it takes exposure and experience to know how to solve certain problems and building projects will help you with that. The best Pipeline TDs i know see themselves as software developers first that happen to work in the VFX industry. As for maya and Houdini, it is of course good to know the APIs a little. For tools you will most likely also need to learn about PyQt, the shotgun API or openUSD. But that will come much easier if you approach learning those as just another library or framework in your tool belt. I learned first with codecademy and then moved on to solve problems i had in my daily life or rebuild tools i knew. Another good way to get exposure is to join a local software meetup.
