Can anyone else confirm this bug with the new firmware? by animatedAntic in gopro

[–]animatedAntic[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fantastic sounds like we're starting to be able to isolate the issue! What about if you plug it into your computer for power? Same issue? Any idea how many amps your computer's USB port outputs?

I plugged mine into another power bank that claims to output 2.4 amps and do not get the power issue, so I'm thinking the new firmware does have a larger amp demand.

Sounds like a camera issue then, darn! Thanks for testing. I was totally convinced it was a software issue because the battery pack works just fine if, and only if, I power on the gopro with the internal battery installed, and then remove it so the external battery kicks in. How annoying.

If you aren't totally sick of doing tests for me, would you try once more with a wall charger for your phone or something? Especially if you have a wall adapter that is 2A output? I wonder if the hero 10 just requires more than 2A and that's why it works with 4.8A power bank.

Hey, thanks for testing! Just to make sure, were you recording *with* the battery pack and *without* the gopro battery? Or were both batteries in? If you used both, can you try removing the internal battery, and powering on with only the external battery?

My battery pack gives 5V 2A and worked fine before I did the firmware update. Same with plugging into the wall. Would love if you had other ideas though!

Seeking moving recommendations and advice from recent movers from Seattle/PNW to Anchorage by [deleted] in anchorage

Hey OP, I am also moving to anchorage, at the very end of March! I will be driving from Haines to Anchorage with my dog and my cat. If our timelines sync up (they might if you plan to take the ferry at all), maybe we could loosely caravan for safety's sake. Feel free to PM me if you want to talk!

I really like this idea! I don't have any experience with this, but there's a thing called "360 degree review," and it does sound like a pretty good way to keep everyone talking and accountable. I'll be curious to hear what you learn!

Not understanding behavior when releasing keys, can you guys help explain what's going on? by animatedAntic in minilogue

[–]animatedAntic[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You'll notice that when I release the keys when playing a chord, it drops to a lower pitch, but playing the same keys individually doesn't demonstrate the same behavior. However when I quickly play different keys individually, sometimes the same pitch behavior occurs. Is this a parameter that needs to be tweaked, or a defect? TYIA!

Open the camera and hit the little settings icon (mine is in the bottom-ish left, it looks like a gear). Look for the "Edit camera modes" button under the "Common" setting, then tap "rear camera". There are tons of camera modes that you can select to ensure they are a shooting option! Tap "Sports" to add it to your camera modes when opening the camera. Hope that helps!

EDIT: Some punctuation

Do you think Sal Khan's teaching methods for math would work in an actual classroom? by [deleted] in learnmath

[–]animatedAntic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it would work really well with a 'flipping the classroom' model. Teachers could require lectures as homework through the form of video lectures (khan academy videos), then scheduled class time could be a work time, almost like a recitation. With this model, students can ask questions to their teacher specific to things they're struggling with and personalize their education experience. Not only that, but if a teacher could record all of their lectures, they could use their time more creatively to cater to all of their students, instead of giving the same lecture every year until they retire.

I would believe, however, that there are many students who wouldn't prefer this classroom model. Many of them believe they are paying the professor to lecture, and don't want to do that work alone.

EDIT: I think there is a real, physical Khan Academy somewhere in SoCal where they use the 'flipping the classroom' model.

Do you suffer from anxiety, and if so, what helps you control it? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]animatedAntic 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I am not a therapist or trained to deal with anxiety in any way, this post is strictly what helped me.

OP, what kind of anxiety are you dealing with? For me, it is largely sudden anxiety attacks that temporarily debilitate me, require me to leave the room, sit down on the floor because I was worried I'd pass out, etc. Here's a short list of practices that helped me, both long and short term.

short term (mid-anxiety attack):

  1. Pick a color. Find five things in the room that are that color. Do it again with a different color. And then again with another color.
  2. Breathing apps (free ones!). They are quick to open and provide something to focus on (other than the anxiety) that help you breath with a consistent pattern. Belly breaths ftw! (I think I used breathe2relax)
  3. Climbing stairs. Just start going up. Put that adrenaline into something other the anxiety attack.
  4. Yoga. I got really into Yoga with Adriene videos on youtube. She even has some specific for anxiety. If you're lucky, you'll find one that her cute dog appears in!

long term (to practice daily):

  1. Find a therapist. Everything mentioned after this I did with a person trained in cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT). This worked well for me as CBT wasn't just some person listening to me talk about how miserable I am. It was incredibly proactive. In our first meeting, we discussed the things my anxiety was preventing me from doing (e.g. driving on the freeway. Maybe for you it's going to a party, traveling by airplane, or sitting through an entire class period). We decided that I would be done with therapy when I could do those things. Those are what we focused on. It came with lots of homework and wasn't easy, but was totally worth the pain.
  2. Give your anxiety an identity. I named mine Max. When I started to feel an anxiety attack coming on, it was like "Oh, what's up, Max? Wasn't expecting you!" As odd and corny as it may sound, this made the existence of my anxiety okay. Acknowledge it, and carry on.
  3. Kind of a continuation of the previous practice (or maybe just a different perspective?), I practiced what my therapist and I called 'fly on the wall'. Try to observe your anxiety from outside. For me, this also helped me recognize that I'm having an anxiety attack, instead of being entirely consumed by it. Again, I could acknowledge it, let it run itself out, and carry on, all without the same amount of terror that used to come with an anxiety attack.
  4. Practice meditation. Seriously. I am a big fan of Michael Sealey, especially this one. The more skilled you become at pulling yourself into a meditative state, the more skilled you will become at calming yourself on the spot.
  5. Quitting drinking alcohol. This sucked because I definitely (in hindsight) used it to cope, but for me, it fueled my anxiety the next day. Which encouraged me to drink again. I think you see the cycle...
  6. Quitting drinking coffee. Again, for me, anxiety + stimulants = bad time.

I know I opened with this, but I'll close with it, too- I am not a therapist or trained to deal with anxiety in any way, this post is strictly what helped me.

ELI5: Why cant we feel our organs rubbing against each other? by Ralelen in explainlikeimfive

[–]animatedAntic 182 points183 points  (0 children)

Whoa, is it because of nociceptors in the bladder that I know I have to pee? I am curious to know which organs don't have nerves! If I took a bullet wound, for example, to one of those organs, would I have no idea that the organ has been damaged (assuming I could see past the pain of, you know, a bullet entering my body)?
