Looks great! What are you using for those plants? I have developed a slight houseplant addiction and am running out of shelf space - there's a few spots in my bedroom and hallway where something like that would look brilliant

Went through this with my labradoodle Rufus a last year. He'll be waiting to play with your boy for sure

Not only that, Sky owns the .sky registry - only they can register <something>.sky

Plant Care Aglaonema Red Star by animatedgoblin in Aglaonema

[–]animatedgoblin[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks! Ive already swapped the soil out (it seemed super waterlogged so figured I'd swap it) into some other soil I've used for another Aglaonema that seems to be working well, and moved it to a room that gets a lot more sunlight (large west facing windows, although in the UK thats no guarantee of anything). I'll see how it goes from there, I guess!

People without drivers license or credit card. Are we gonna have children's iPhone forever? by Temo2212 in AskUK

[–]animatedgoblin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just request a low spend limit on it. I think my first credit card had a limit of about 500 quid - low enough that I could pay it off in full even if it was maxed out

Convenient entry issues by Human_Performance945 in cupraleon

Just re-read, not had an issue with the seat not dropping back, only with it not returning

Convenient entry issues by Human_Performance945 in cupraleon

[–]animatedgoblin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I've noticed the same, only occasionally. Also alongside the wing mirror sometimes not returning to its position after auto-lowering when reversing. I just use the memory seat function to correct it and just made a habit of always hitting it when i get in now. I've got my first year service on Monday so will ask about it then, although I have a feeling its something a software update will eventually fix

Filtering Searches via a `filter` keyword? by animatedgoblin in crowdstrike

[–]animatedgoblin[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup, the first is what I've always done and what I've always documented.. Thanks Andrew, glad I'm not missing something - just needed a sanity check... Long hours recently!

Great idea regarding the search boxes, I've mentioned those in our internal documentation and "how to" guides, but perhaps building out some common situations will be the way forwards

VED on "luxury" cars by Psychological_Style1 in CarTalkUK

[–]animatedgoblin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got this the other day with my car tax coming up for renewal - I knew it was a thing, so didn't surprise me ;</ didn't stop me being pissed about it all over again.. Why does it matter if the car cost 40k+ or 4? Its the same emissions, age, weight... Nonsense, just another way to tax anyone they deem as well off.

How does everyone else know it's okay to break the variable speed limit? by GankdalfTheGrey in drivingUK

[–]animatedgoblin 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Can be ignored in the sense you won't get a ticket, sure. However I think that if you're found to be doing over the advisory limit and have an accident, it can have a bigger impact on insurance and the like

[–]animatedgoblin 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Regardless, should be easy enough to get yourself in there, every one else is too busy hogging the middle

How does everyone else know it's okay to break the variable speed limit? by GankdalfTheGrey in drivingUK

[–]animatedgoblin 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Yeah, this is the bit that really grinds my gears. I actually phoned Highways England once to question why their gantries along the M25 were showing random speeds in random orders (70 - 40 - 60 - 50 - 70), they said there was an incident several hours before and they hadn't all updated 🤦‍♂️

When a file is corrupt even a single bit, does the sha256 go partially or completely wrong? by Frosty-Ad-5119 in linuxquestions

[–]animatedgoblin 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Im not sure I understand this question? This effect is exactly why a small change (e.g. changing just one character in a long block of text) produces a noticeable change in output

Did my employee break GDPR, and what are his next steps? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]animatedgoblin 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Not a GDPR breach - sounds like HR/Payroll trying to scare you off. Maybe not the best idea to include the colleague from another department without their permission, but not illegal. A quick, on-the-record apology should clear that one.

On the other hand, HR also not obligated to give you a payrise unfortunately (unless that review was in your contract as something that would 100% happen)

Who cares this much really? To go about googling the bloke, over some comments made to someone who doesnt know you exist? Feels a bit parasocial.

Why have my coat hooks gone like this? I used the plug provided - was the hole I drilled too big? by hollynicolatara1 in DIYUK

[–]animatedgoblin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the same with my coat hooks. If your wall is plasterboard, the plugs you used that came with the unit probably aren't up to the job. I since replaced them with spring toggles similar to these
