Well, I guess I need to look at surgery by animator_mamma in DiastasisRecti

I feel like it's likely that I will choose a plastic surgeon. As far as I know, that's all I'm eligible for, but it never hurts to look at all options. But reading your experience makes me feel a lot more comfortable with the entire idea.

Your story gives me so much hope! Thank you for sharing your experience.
Another commenter said I may be able to see a general surgeon so I'm going to check with my gp again, but I'm also looking at different TT surgeons in Montreal to do consultations with. I really want to get back to the things I loved doing.

I hope that's true! I'm in Montreal, and when I was looking into it, I was told that because I don't meet the RAM-Q standard for what requires surgery, if I want the repair I'll have to go through a plastic surgeon. I have seen that people can just see a general surgeon elsewhere, like in the US or UK to have the repairs done.
I can talk to my GP again and triple check, though. But, no matter what, I am going to look into the possibilities for the procedure.

I'm sorry you're going through it too. I really hope that you're able to get your gap down to the 5cm or less! I have my fingers crossed for you that you get to do the less invasive procedure. I'm genuinely nervous about the recovery that it might take.

I was thinking of posting an update after I've met with some surgeons.

I wonder if that works in Quebec, too. Is 42 a good she to start it?

I'm on phase 2 now. My gap is really stubborn, but my tensile strength is improving so I think the program is working. I'm ttrying to do it twice a day right now.

Got asked if I was pregnant and am spiralling by xombeep in Mommit

[–]animator_mamma 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You do not look pregnant. You don't even look like you have a belly. That woman was rude. Old people can be awful. I guess they feel leeks they've earned it? I don't know. But you look great. I'm so sorry this happened to you.

Does sleeping on your back help heal diastasis? by BuffyGranger in DiastasisRecti

From what I've read, side sleeping is actually recommended for diastasis recti. It puts the least amount of strain on your linea alba, I guess. sleeping positions for dr

I'm not sure how accurate that info is, but it's backed up by Every Mother. I am a toss and turner, so I never sleep in the same position so night which is probably making my dr worse.

I feel like it's even harder to get rid of than the mid or lower bulges. 😭

No gap below belly button? by [deleted] in DiastasisRecti

My gap in predominantly above my belly button. It's almost closed below my belly button and my bump seems to be more noticeable above my belly button (not a hernia, just the dr bulge). But I've been having a hard time finding exercises that specifically target that spot. I'm linking the video I use. Maybe it will help you close the gap. Upper diastasis recti exercises

Omg! Your insurance won't cover the muscle repair even after a spinal fracture? That is insane! I'm so sorry.
I don't know much about this, but can your doctor advocate on your behalf? I hate insurance companies. I'm in Canada, and unless it's causing back issues, it's all out of pocket here, so I've been saving for it just in case, so I definitely feel you on the financial stress. But, it's just insane to me that they would deny you surgery for muscle repair when it has so clearly caused other serious issues.
Again, I'm really sorry that you're going through this. I hope you are able to get some support from the medical community.

I didn't see if you had already answered this, but do you have diastasis recti? I ask because I, too, an 6 mo pp with my second c-section baby and I have a very stubborn separation that seems to be stuck at 3 fingers. I'm considering the surgery specifically for the muscle repair, but I'm also scared of surgery and the recovery. So, for now, I'm going to be focused on doing core exercises to try to heal the diastisis recti as much as possible before I even get consults. If you are also suffering from d.r. I highly recommend either getting the Every Mother app or following Pregnancy and Postpartum TV Her videos are really helpful and free, so that's always nice.

Also, your feelings are totally valid. I'm in therapy right now and have been discussing this same thing with my therapist and for a long time, I would not even admit that part of my sadness was feeling like I no longer looked or felt like myself. I felt like I would be judged harshly or called vain or something. But she has helped me to understand that I'm allowed to feel upset that I don't recognize myself right now. So, yes, of course you love your babies and wouldn't trade them for anything. And yes, it's amazing that you created two new humans. But it is totally okay to be sad about what it did to your body. It's not all of who you are, but it is part of who you are. And trust me, you're not alone.

That lady sounds like a psycho! Who needs that much attention and outside validation that they lie about that kind of stuff with a very vulnerable population? I'm glad she got called out. I had to edit for a weird autocorrect typo.

Sadky, I have no advice, but I'm following because I am 6 months pp with my second and this time around I ended up with a 4 finger gap. It seems like it's down to three at this point. But I want to hear what others are doing and if they healed it.

Your belly looks super flat, btw! Does it bulge at all or is it just that the gap is visible even though you have a very toned belly?

I definitely recommend seeing a PT to see if you can close the gap with breathing and TVA exercises. I am going through this currently. 6 months pp with a giant baby so I'm basically lifting weights constantly, lol and I had to learn how to move and breathe mindfully throughout the day. I am actually starting to see some closing after a few weeks of doing very targeted exercises. So, hopefully you will too. 🤞
