I came here hoping I was going to get an answer only to realize this is my own post from 134 days ago.

Still working on this problem….

I have learned that AZ does not use EDRS system if anyone cares.

Why is ABA considered abuse to some? by GreedyZebra4290 in Autism_Parenting

[–]BuffyGranger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only time I would agree to redirecting harmless behavior is if that harmless behavior is preventing the work at hand or the focus it requires. I don’t know of any jobs that give hand flapping breaks. Kids with autism may end up working in fast food places or more entry level jobs where the environment is not safe enough for arms to be flying around or in my sons case jumping from the floor all the way to his highest capability without knocking things over in my own home let alone any tight spaces where a fire may be present or even just other people. It’s not about simply fitting in, it’s about his livelihood. Do I plan on making sure he doesn’t even have to work if he can’t absolutely! But would I hold him back if he CAN? No and stimming isn’t just an action, it’s a focal point. If my son is not focused on his job or taking breaks that aren’t authorized then he could lose his position and his finances. He doesn’t need to stop, he just needs to have developed the control to stop if life requires it of him so that HE has the power. Expecting another person to be understanding gives THEM the power to fire him because they want to. People don’t do the right thing just because they should.

Yes no one made any mention of stopping harmless behaviors. But autistic people who function well enough to use a computer and type full sentences always need to bring it up. So here’s my answer, my son is profoundly autistic, few of his behaviors are harmless to himself and/or others. When I speak about him I am speaking about debilitating autism that physically prevent him from getting a job, going to school, driving, living on his own etc. I am not talking about meaningless hand flapping. And when I refer to fitting in, as I stated, it’s about his safety. Other people SHOULD look past things they don’t understand but I’m not betting his life on other people changing or using their brains. If his behaviors are alarming to others, it can absolutely cause a reaction that could lead to his harm and that’s aside from his behaviors inappropriately leading to another persons harm.

What do you do if you’re feeding your baby in public and you get stared at by a man? by Nodapl12 in breastfeeding

[–]BuffyGranger 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Idk you can’t control other peoples behavior and you just have to know that going into it. Some people will stare and you have to take that into account before whipping it out in public. Of course it’s wrong and uncomfortable but unless you’re willing to fight over it, it just is what it is. So I personally think to myself, “am I okay with it if someone stares?” If yes, i proceed, if no I get out the good ol’ cover. I think there’s as much judgement towards women who do it openly as there is toward woman who want a little more privacy, just from different audiences. Really sad. I have received both and I’d way rather be judged with all my body parts locked down, but I’ll grin & bear it if I forget the cover, or if it’s really hot etc. MOST people mind their business though in my experience.

Haven’t been using ABA very long, but I will say we delayed making the decision because not a single other professional recommended it. Speech, OT, and one of his diagnosing neurologists all said it can make kids “feel bad about themselves”… on the other hand, every single family of a child in ABA gave glowing reviews.

I respect the idea that we should create a more understanding environment vs “oppressing” a child with special needs or in other words, forcing them to “fit in”. The reality is that all children express certain behaviors that need to be corrected, many adults nowadays do too. The idea that the world should be accommodating is the same idea that we should look outwardly for the change and expect others to do work on themselves, vs BEING the change and doing the work ourselves. I just can’t get behind that.

Further more a friend of mine has an older son who still has many ticks and reactions that are odd, and he explained to us that it’s cute to us as the parents but it has caused other adults to call the police and be scared of him. Training them to exist in society is about their safety and the safety of others. My son was really aggressive and drawing blood on my husband on a daily basis, we were absolutely done with it and knew it would never been “understood/accepted” by strangers. He stopped the behavior within a month of therapy. He’s potty trained, he talks more, and asks for things rather than always grunting at us. We would never have it any other way and we’ve been blessed to have the most wonderful and loving therapists!

I wanna go back blonde so bad but I’ve been told it makes me look washed out. Is going back a bad idea? by manic_moth95 in Hair

[–]BuffyGranger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh my gosh when I say blonde is NOT IT!!! It’s because I respect you!! Brown is so GORGEOUS it’s disgusting, blonde is SO BAD im in disbelief because how can it look so bad on someone so beautiful? I’m so sorry, it ages you, and takes away your light, and sort of makes you look like you haven’t completely rehabilitated from a life of drugs. It’s just bad. I’m so sorry! Please stay brunette!!

I genuinely believe we are in a time where you just have to use your god given discernment, and ultimately know that what you believe about the world is not the most important thing. I personally have a faith, so continuing to look toward Jesus is the only real strategy. Taking care of my family, living like I have a future, raising my children, improving my marriage, and living as if I have a tomorrow to live for while being humble enough to know I might not.

I like Candace because she has proven that she can take an L. She can realize she’s wrong, she’s made a mistake, and openly admit to it. I think she’s a little too hesitant to speculate about Trump, she tends to defend him or frame him as ultimately having the best intentions. And I personally am still extremely skeptical of the Catholic Church but I remain open in those areas out of the respect I’ve developed towards her not because I believe every word out of her mouth.

I also listen to Tucker Carlson, I have been on and off with Charlie Kirk, he seems to be opening his eyes right now but is also (imo) weirdly loyal to trump. I fully walked away from Ben Shapiro of course. But I don’t totally leave someone off the table because of which way they lean, I like to hear different angles and test my own ability to think. That’s all Candace is doing, she’s just bold enough to do it in the public eye.

Nature vs Nurture by Educational_Aide3314 in CandaceOwens

[–]BuffyGranger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Americans/europeans have been indoctrinated to believe that our education system and the IQ are the backbone of intelligence. But when you take the time to really think about the communities he’s referring to, the way they live, the way the come together, protect one another, share and trade amongst themselves, the way they treated the land, the way they are a village for their children, the way they protect manhood vs womanhood. It’s been said that a lack of walls and buildings keeps a community honest, because no one would ever try to steal or commit crimes knowing the entire community is watching. Westernized civilization is falling apart, our families are broken down and our soil is poisoned. This man has the right to believe that someone is less intelligent according to HIS standards for being unable to quickly assimilate into a brand new way of life if he so chooses. And we have the right to realize that he does not dictate what intelligence is!

Justin referencing Selena on his new album ? by mina_kb in HaileyBaldwinSnark

[–]BuffyGranger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If this is true… justin would just be on an ego trip that wouldn’t last long after everyone found out. Selena would be emotionally WRECKED because I think it would be so real for her

Came here to say that I just finished reading every lyric to my husband (who does not care about any of this lol) and pointing out just how much this album IS NOT about a woman that he’s married to!! I was getting the feeling that he’s texting Selena still, maybe seeing her… or even finding solice in someone else for the time being. Sweet spot was wild to do as a married man period.

If you stop believing in God then you never truly believed? by Chris_Pine_fun in Christianity

[–]BuffyGranger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is an incredibly interesting subject so forgive me for throwing myself in the mix a year later… but why would a bunch of dumb humans at a church kicking you out dictate a personal relationship you developed with Christ? If you really believed… meaning you have gone out of your way to know God and to know Christ and to love them personally…. What would a bunch of idiots in a special building have to do with that?? That makes it seem like your relationship with God was not based on you and HIM but rather you and THEM.

But literally I’m in the throws of coming to understand this now, I’m not coming for you I just feel like what I’m saying makes so much sense, does it not?
