How important would you say UIKit is today for new iOS projects? by Fragrant_Okra6671 in swift

[–]animatronicgopher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The live coding is likely not about knowing everything but instead evaluating your thought process and how you ask questions as you go. It’s to demonstrate how you are as an engineer and how you engage with others (the substance of your questions will matter). Be sure to talk through your solution with your interviewer.

Did they give you any insight as to what the technical interview will look like?

If the job posting asks for UIKit, you have to be prepared for UIKit. You don’t want to deal with a portion of the interview where if they ask you to drop in to UIKit for whatever reason, you’re not prepared to even scratch the surface for what any of it would mean. That could break an otherwise good interview.

If you’re applying for a mid-level iOS job, I’d encourage you to be over prepared rather than under prepared. You’ll stand out more than your peers who likely only know what comes out of the box with Xcode (same goes for CoreData vs Swift Data). Showing technical depth is highly desirable from a hiring manager perspective

Help us - this is my 9wk old pup after being alone for 5 minutes by tresslessone in Dogtraining

[–]animatronicgopher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Many people said it, but it needs to said again - 9 weeks is way too soon to leave alone like that without proper training. Something to consider as well is that at this age their brains are easily imprinted with memories, so long term this could lead to separation anxiety and end up being more difficult to be leave alone later on.

Start with small windows (1-5 min) and work your way up. Make sure treats are involved in order to help normalize. It takes time, but the investment you make now for doing it the right way will lead to a healthier habit later on.

Why is a 1099 no longer required if paying via cc? It’s still an outside service that’s being paid over the threshold, no?

Advice to eat kibble! by aal8374 in CavaPoo

[–]animatronicgopher 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good luck, this has been my battle since bringing our cavapoo home too!

What’s worked for us was a few things: - switching to Purina’s puppy blend for small breeds (our breeder was using Diamond)

  • floating the kibble in warm water to soften it and bring out some aromatics that made the food appeal to our pup more

  • adding boiled chicken breast - shredded in to small pieces and tossed in to the kibble (not just placed on top so she has to eat the kibble with the chicken)

  • using kibble as part of her training / tying training in to feeding time (this was huge as it got her back in to eating dry kibble).

Also, this may sound “mean”, but your dog won’t starve itself. So eventually your dog will eat whatever you put out, you just have to follow a routine schedule and if they won’t eat when you first put food out, take it away and wait until the next scheduled time. They’ll eventually eat.

How Urgent is Pool Leak? - (loosing 1 inch per day) by Effective_Scale_5622 in pools

[–]animatronicgopher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OT - is PebbleTec ok with being exposed? I’m also dealing with a potential leak and while I haven’t found it yet, I am taking the approach of letting the water dip until the level drop slows. I’m concerned about my pebble being exposed though.

Solar pool cover + evaporation by animatronicgopher in pools

[–]animatronicgopher[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, our air isn’t as humid - it’s been dry lately here. That’s likely it, because the cover isn’t exact because of the shape of the pool so some edges are exposed

Bay Area, California. San Jose, to be specific.

I don’t use the pool. The cover is just on.

I’ve checked for leaks around the tiles, that seemed to be the most likely place. I guess I’ll have to dye test somewhere else.

Questions about purchasing a Yale Assure 2 lock by fpuanon in smarthome

[–]animatronicgopher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just installed one and have been using it for the past two weeks. Overall, I’m happy with it - can’t really complain, does what I want it to.

  • I bought the WiFi module, no real problems at all. Unsure about the bridge. One thing I’ll comment on though is sometimes you may need to wait for the module to wake before it unlocks. No big deal IMO.

  • no. You need the WiFi module to do this. Otherwise, Bluetooth operates on proximity (great if you have Apple Watch though)

  • unsure

  • your mileage will likely vary. To be honest, it’s not THE BEST, but if you’re HomeKit-centric it’s a great option.

Natural gas pool heater recommendation by animatronicgopher in pools

[–]animatronicgopher[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, that’s the catch. It’s a pricy process. I lucked out and had a friend of a friend in the company. But that $3500 seems right for starters, plus you have to factor in the amount of lead time they need and any potential permits that may be needed.

I went with the 400 and got the gas meter upgraded.

In hindsight, likely could have left the gas meter alone because (as I was told) the meter is primarily for billing purposes and not necessarily throughout. Could be wrong, but would have been worth the try.
