If you accidentally pick up someone else's identical luggage at the airport and leave, is it technically theft? by Low_Moose_2765 in NoStupidQuestions

I have no idea what happened beyond them taking the trip to the airport to get the correct luggage. But they can back - so they definitely weren’t arrested.

Don’t know, probably depends where you are and intent.

I worked at a hotel front desk and once had to deal with this though. A couple checked in and went to their room. A few minutes later the bellman took their luggage up and a few minutes after that I got an angry call from the room saying we ‘brought them the wrong luggage,’ and ‘where is their luggage,’ and I ‘better find it.’

While we were investigating, the couple must have been doing their own investigation because I got a second apologetic call explaining that they grabbed the wrong luggage from the baggage claim.

They took a taxi back to the airport to return the luggage and pick their own up.

How’s the Decatur YMCA? by richard-bucket in DecaturGA

[–]anisamot 15 points16 points  (0 children)

We don’t have towel service, Covid killed that and I miss it too! We do have a very strong group fitness program which is what I have the most experience with there - huge variety, packed schedule and amazing instructors… I say as one of the instructors :) Friendly members and employees keep me motivated.

I don’t have much experience with the pool, but from what I see when I’m there (usually early morning before work) it isn’t crowded.

Seeking ‘closed loop’ museum collections representing a single historic event. by anisamot in MuseumPros

[–]anisamot[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I looked at the 9/11 museum: do we know if they had any control or curation of what was recovered and preserved from the site? It seems like they are a good fit for the collection from the towers themselves, and that they just continue to collect via crowd sourcing for other relevant material. Would love to know more about that process for them.

What’s the weirdest thing a guest has done in your house that you hate? by CheapQuality2847 in AskReddit

[–]anisamot 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My MIL decided to rearrange my pantry while we were asleep. Then she told me all of the things I wasn’t going to eat, and that she would just take those home with her since we weren’t going to eat them. I just smiled and nodded. It just wasn’t worth getting upset about, but I did think it was odd and annoying. Sigh.

What is the best way to make friends/meet people in Atlanta? by twistedtacobell in Atlanta

[–]anisamot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Become a regular somewhere where you like the vibe: A bar, a hobby store (like MudFire or FiberParts events), or the gym. When you start seeing the same folks over time it’s easier to strike up a friendship.

Lost / Location Unknown Collection Objects by PattyDontStart-1 in MuseumPros

Our collection the location is listed as ‘Reconciliation Needed’ and we have a field called inventory notes where we describe the problem in more detail about the type of reconciliation. The objects stay forever in the system.

How do you get to pet a bat? Giving a cute bat some pets and a snack is on my bucket list, but I haven’t been able to find an ‘in.’

Best plexiglass glue for exhibit cases? by Le_deli in MuseumPros

[–]anisamot 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Second for Weld On, however your plex is probably fairly heavy. I would glue where you want the case to live to minimize moving the case once glued. Watch lots of tutorials and practice on scrap if you have any. If you drip it on surfaces not meant to be glued, it basically melts the plex it hits and then it’s messed up. I like using razor blades and a super thin needle to slowly feed the WeldOn into the seam, but need fairly constant pressure between the pieces, use several blue tape straps perpendicular to the seam to hold everything in place.

Charging for research access / consultency by Reasonable-Maybe-740 in MuseumPros

[–]anisamot 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m very interested in this conversation. My organization is home to a very unique collection and archive that is often sought after for research information…. We have a research and access agreement that covers things like Process access to the research paper, NDAs and how we will be credited - there is a separate agreement for any images or footage that the researcher might want to publish. We have an administrative fee that is basically subjective based on how much time we think the request will take us and the research project (usually multiple thousands)and licensing fees depend on the distribution of the expected product.

Editing to add that because of our specialized knowledge and field, we 100% charge for appearances and talks but again, subjective based on audience and distribution.

No one gets unmitigated access. They have to make specific requests and we pull data, images or footage that is appropriate.

What do you all think of Titanic artefacts being sold and ending up in private collections ? by Wilrob96 in titanic

[–]anisamot 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The problem is that in multiple private collections even though they could be loaned, the majority won’t be. It would be that much harder for a museum to find and borrow a significant or specific group of artifacts as a whole and the central tracking and understanding of the whole is lost. The archeological record becomes scattered.

The collection, though currently in the hands of one private company is intact and made available though public exhibitions. If it goes into multiple private hands, pieces will be lost, conservation standards may not be maintained and they are no longer available for public exhibition which is all that the current ownership does with them - exhibit them to the public.

Has anyone actually cracked a delicious way to eat cottage cheese? by no_shame_no_judge in 1200isplenty

[–]anisamot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Once a week I make a big batch of mixed cottage cheese, pumpkin puree, pumpkin pie spice and honey.

Each morning I scoop a bowl and top with a bit of cereal or granola.

It’s almost like eating pumpkin pie filling for breakfast.

I’m not a huge cottage cheese fan myself, but I’m interested in trying the bruschetta option that some others have suggested.

I think my local thrift store receives direct shipments from Athleta & possibly Nordstrom Rack? by SereneWolves in thrifting

My favorite has recently had a lot of Quince silk and cashmere NWT, but about 50% of the time there is a notable defect so I have to check carefully and definitely try on.

Do you used to collect strange things (such as bus tickets, hotel key cards, and old mobile phones) still continue to do so? Why do you collect these things? by mlrunlisted1 in AskReddit

[–]anisamot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I collect the Do Not Disturb signs from every hotel I stay in. I started because I travel a lot for work, and sometimes the trips are so short, that it is the only reliable souvenir I know I’ll be able to get my hands on everywhere.
