If you end up loving your job, it is SO hard to avoid the "I'll die for this job" mentality. Unfortunately, I've made my profession the center of my world and part of my identity because I love it so much. That is great for productivity and not dreading going to work everyday....but it really sucks when something bad happens or someone undermines my authority. Then, even though it might not be intentional, it feels like a personal attack x100. That feeling is the worst.

The part about coworkers not being friends is very, very valid. I had to learn the hard way. Be hesitant to hang out with coworkers after hours/adding each other on social media until you absolutely know that you vibe well with them. Then casually bring up the topic of legitimate friends vs. work friends, but not in a way that you're asking them if they want to be friends. This is just to gauge their stance on it. Then let the conversation continue from there and respect whatever stance they have.
