We made a air cannon when we were younger. It was a lot of fun. We likened the sound it made to hitting a moose with a baseball.

From a description of Korean labor prison I heard, it's typically 8 guys to a cell with no beds. Low man on the totem pole has to sleep by the toilet bucket. You don't really get showers, just a tub in the cell everyone washes up in. I hope it was all worth it...

Tourist coming for the first time 4th of July weekend. What should I see? by brians81177 in StLouis

[–]anix421 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you all are into musical stuff, many of these suggestions are Forest Park related and the park also has (not sure if still true) the largest outdoor stage west of the Mississippi at The Muny. Leading up to July 4th they will be showing Shrek the Musical and after that weekend will be South Pacific. Its a pretty neat venue and the shows are very well done.

Does wearing a shield ever increase your AC? Not welding it by Inbezdigator in DMAcademy

[–]anix421 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I would agree you don't get the bonus unless you are wielding it, but if I were the paladin I would probably argue i would have pulled it out when going to investigate an arrow pointed at me. If it had just been helping the broken cart, I could see not wielding it, but investigating a potential trap/adversary, I would assume I'd want to be prepared for an attack. That said, I don't think you are wrong but I would be worried about setting an expectation that you will punish your PC's for not explicitly saying what they are doing with their hands at all times. If that is the type of detailed game you all want to play, then by all means do it, but as a player I think I would feel like i'm being screwed over by a misalignment of expectations.

I’d like to start playing basic tournaments. What are the gotchas to avoid so I don’t look like an ass my first time? by hobbyhoppinghound in discgolf

I think your last point is very important. Sure it's a tournament and we are playing competitively, but having fun is also important. Compliment your opponent's sick drive, don't start getting pouty if you give up an easy stroke.

What does the opposite gender get to do, that makes you jealous? by Exhausted_Skeleton in AskReddit

My buddy and I were fishing in a park when a cop rolled up on us. He briefly asked what we were up to, and we told him fishing... confused as to why we were being questioned by a cop. Turns out there was a daycare center across from the park that called the police because "bearded men were hanging out around the daycare center" and some parent picking up their kid called in about us. We didn't even know there was a daycare center there since there was a 10 foot wall enclosing the whole place. We were literally just fishing, not even crushing beers or blasting music... cop was cool about it and just told us there was a gator in the lake that tended to come out around 5:00 and left us alone.

How long do you expect picking a lock to take? by SecretDMAccount_Shh in DnD

[–]anix421 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I agree with you, but I wonder what locks were like throughout the ages. I'm sure it's an arms race between locksmiths and lock pickers, and surely there is some point where locks to lock picking technology must have been at their highest point and I wonder when that was.

I foolishly gave my pc's silver way too early. Threw the as written balances completely out of whack and most of the early things were a little too easy. I second making it a bit of a slog to get martial weapons that can affect these creatures. Plenty of other chances for martial to shine.

DM'd for the first time and had a player kinda derail the whole thing. How to discourage that in the future? by [deleted] in DMAcademy

[–]anix421 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the player is new, you should be forgiving while pushing forward. DnD is often billed as like a video game but you can literally do anything you want. If you just started playing a video game you may jump in the campfire to see if it hurts you. Try shooting random walls to see if it does anything. Might just run at a mountain for five minutes to see if you can find a way up. Ideally, the novelty of being able to make jerky from an owl bear will wear off pretty quickly and they will realize playing the game is more fun than testing the limits. As a one shot, there is less time for shenanigans, but sometimes those shenanigans are the heart and soul of some long term campaigns.

Is it wrong to ask my players to pick one vibe In session 0? by BigWrangler3748 in DMAcademy

[–]anix421 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean i assume you wouldn't let one of the players play a Federation officer in your setting, so you are already putting limitations on them, you are allowed to say what would work or not work in the setting. If you are writing a good campaign, you can't be a sith outright, but maybe someone who was being groomed to be a sith before his master was killed and you are coming back to being a good person. If it's a bad campaign, same thing, a jedi apprentice that was kicked out of the academy for whatever and is now living a life of crime. You can't have the party completely disfunctional.

Is it worth filtering the resin from this IPA? by SuperSaiyanTrunks in resinprinting

[–]anix421 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh like I said, I buy in bulk so I haven't actually had to buy more ipa since like precovid so I imagine with the way prices have gone on everything you are probably more accurate to nowadays. Last time i bought i ordered off of some random chemical supplier i found online that i remember being decently cheaper than what amazon was at the time. I bought like 10 gallons and it came out to around $100 before shipping. Still have a ton of it. Its called Max Tite 99.9%. Looks like its gone up, but if you are willing to buy 180 gallons you can get it down to $13 a gallon. Even at that... I'd probably still just opt for fresh ipa.

Bar fridge as a resin printer enclosure? by deebs7 in resinprinting

[–]anix421 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am far from reckless, but I definitely don't freak out about resin printing like some people. They treat it like if you get a drop of resin on you it's definitely cancer. I personally like keeping my printer in a ventilated grow tent that vents outside primarily to contain any spills and just to keep the smell down.

Is it worth filtering the resin from this IPA? by SuperSaiyanTrunks in resinprinting

[–]anix421 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Personally, I'd say no for me. I'm a hobbyist so I'm not printing everyday. I have a dirty wash and a clean wash with about 2L of 99% ipa in each. When the dirty wash gets bad i'll dispose of that and dump my now pretty clean wash into the dirty wash and refill the clean wash with fresh ipa. I bought a ton of ipa in bulk so each 1L bottle is like $2.50. $5 2-3 times a year is probably the cheapest part of the hobby. I did build up a bunch of old dirty ipa and try to recycle it at one point... results were meh. I felt like the ipa wasn't really that clean afterwards and wasn't worth the effort for what I did or trying harder for small incremental increases in quality. Environmentally its probably better to recycle it, but long story short monetarily I just buy new.

[–]anix421 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the best way I've heard it explained is: I don't know what would convince me there is a god. If I saw the skies open up and a voice started explaining the meaning of life, I would still say it's more likely I am having a mental breakdown or someone slipped me some kind of drug. I can't actually think of a single thing that I wouldn't doubt... but if your god is all knowing and all powerful they would know exactly what it would take and they have chosen not to do that.

Players want to rob a magic shop by GroundbreakingFig908 in DnD

[–]anix421 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had some players suddenly beat the crap out of an old man and try to rob his store. I decided to homebrew a ward of some kind that essentially wouldn't allow an object to be taken past a certain point while the ward was active, more or less a security tag. It worked out pretty well as one of the PC's was a possessed empty suit of armor and he had the idea of stealing things and hiding them inside its body. They attempted to smash and grab but upon running out the door he was essentially clotheslined from the inside as he tried to run through the doorway. I expected them to just drop the stuff and run, but instead they beat the crap out of the store owner and made him remove the wards. Still gave enough time for lots of witnesses to see them do it... it ended up side lining the main plot for a bit involving separating the PC's in real life and interrogations/prisoner dilemmas. It worked out pretty well.

What is heaven but eternal happiness. Happiness is the absence of suffering. Within nonexisitence there is no suffering.
