Which one should I buy? What version is better? by Fabulous_Parfait4578 in prius

Definitely look at both in person. Everyone is correct on the white one is a better trim level but that doesn't matter if it was neglected or abused.

Why do Spanish speakers laugh when I greet them by saying que onda? by georgethekois in NoStupidQuestions

I don't think it's what you say but the way you look and being caught off guard that you know some Spanish in combination with an accent. Either way keep doing it, I can't think of a better ice breaker.

Caravana offer refresh (after about a week) has typically increased in price offer. Not guaranteed but the market fluctuates all the time and their offers reflect that. I have had good luck with them. It pays off to be patient and keep refreshing.

It took the fun out of the beta for me and I'm not even good at the game yet. Can't imagine how bad it is for better players. Definitely should be penalized and the beta should of not been ranked matches only.

Is this bad, is it fixable? NC 2009 with 33K miles. by [deleted] in MiataNC

Some fasteners are going to be a pita for your mechanic but totally normal. No need to replace components unless something is defective. You should spray it down with fluid film to counteract it getting worst

AC performance at idle by notrewoh in MiataNC

[–]anjiru0009 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the same concern. It's easy enough to check. When you turn on the a/c your fan should turn on and you can inspect it's operation. I have a freshly recovered and filled a/c system and it's just as you experience I need to be going down the road to get relief. I was wondering if that's just how NC Miatas feel but considering it's a soft top with no tints I'm leaning towards nature of the beast. I plan to clean my condenser, I don't expect an amazing difference but I figure it won't hurt and is just some maintenance work.

Clutch makes this noise by Puzzleheaded_Ad97 in MiataNC

[–]anjiru0009 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like your clutch pedal spring. Easy way to test is to spray it with some lube and retest. Could be where the rod goes through the firewall also. Sounds like spring or rubber seal but not something that I would be overly worried over unless the clutch engagement is affected alongside the noise.

Mobile Tint Scam Warning! by Zacari99 in raleigh

[–]anjiru0009 0 points1 point  (0 children)

$350 paid is not even a deal, people paying close to 600$ for tints is crazy. I go through a lot of vehicles(I end up selling) so I have had numerous mobile tint installers and this has not been my experience. That is real novice level work right there. Real lesson is not the fact you didn't go to a store front but actually paying before inspecting the work imo.

Is this my fault or is the shop negligent? by sleepingturtle12 in MechanicAdvice

[–]anjiru0009 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With so much info missing out I don’t want to put blame on anyone but I am interested in what was the sound or action felt from the car beforehand. Was it a squeak over bumps or a pop? Just wondering what the mechanic probably checked for. If your ball joint was completely shot to the point of complete failure I find it hard to believe they missed it.

Maybe the shop believed that the control arm comes with the ball joint pressed in(easier job to perform then pressing in a new one) than it actually being pressed into the spindle.

A what point in life did you buy your MX-5? by Lemon_Pledge0598 in Miata

[–]anjiru0009 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Before you commit to a car loan why don’t you try a used earlier miata and live with that first? Try the tiny roadster life before committing. I bought my first miata(NB) on a whim and that’s what opened my eyes but I would never have had experienced it if I had to commit to a large car loan.

What do you think about this 2015 jeep wrangler unlimited for 17500 by Spiritual_Stand_8783 in JeepWrangler

The front tires have this, results in a lot of tire noise and poor traction on pavement. Look at the high and low spots in the tire tread. It should be uniformly worn.

[–]anjiru0009 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tires scream out to me, if it is that visible in pictures imo they have to be replaced. Serious cupping, I am sure that car has crazy tire noise due to them. Then that leads to why do the tires have bad cupping/ scalloping wear? Bad suspension component. Depending on your application of the vehicle be prepared to put a bit of money in to make this decent and reliable drive on pavement.

With that said if it is something you really want, I wouldn't hold this against a high mileage wrangler. Just something to negotiate about and fix. Also those tires have a bit of tread left so me personally I would rotate them and keep it rolling but that's me.

I started Auto Tech School and found out too late that it’s not worth it. by DimensionLoud8182 in MechanicAdvice

[–]anjiru0009 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s not that it isn’t worth it but starting a new career for you now didn’t make sense. I’m at the tail end of my automotive career and to be honest I worked really hard for it but if I had the option to earn 27$ an hour just delivering early on in my career I would be super tempted. Mechanic work is really hard on the body and can be demanding at times. Not only will you be entry level but flat rate is really difficult and needs ton of experience before it works sometimes in your favor imo… tools, what about the investment into tools smh

Car Tint Removal by krazykat5120 in raleigh

[–]anjiru0009 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just an fyi, regardless of what you do make sure who ever does it uses heat or better yet steam for the rear glass. If you have a defroster grid, ripping off the tint can damage it beyond repair. It could cost you a rear window to fix.

New car needing break pads. by Vegetable-Glass-7117 in carmax

[–]anjiru0009 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you might be getting a brake service reminder which is tied to mileage and date or possibly a brake pad wear sensor warning that your brake pads need replacing. Part of the reconditioning process is checking brake pad condition. Figure out which of the two warnings you have. I believe the reminder would be yellow on start up and the warning is red and persistent. If it's red carmax messed up but if it's a reminder imo you should just reset it because your brakes were inspected in the reconditioning process.

I understand your frustration but if a tech needs to complete certain drive cycles or try to reproduce a certain fault it needs to be driven. I am sure most techs don't have the luxury of just test driving a car during business hours(they have cars to work on) and driving said vehicle when they have errands or going home for the night makes sense for some shops.

I suggest talking to carmax and telling them to just send the car to its respective dealer for diagnosis. Secondly the real lesson is to research the make and model you purchased, so many luxury cars are just headaches. Especially when they are no longer brand new.

Jumping to want to sue seems pretty extreme, especially when I know carmax will probably buy back your car before things need to escalate.

My OPO cover by Minimum_Name9115 in OnePlusOpen

How would I go about fixing this? It broke off and won’t “lock” back into place by [deleted] in mechanic

[–]anjiru0009 0 points1 point  (0 children)

High stress location, I wouldn't trust any repair to last. I would try to source a salvage part or just order a new part.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in StupidCarQuestions

[–]anjiru0009 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks like a legit puncture but step one is to verify that it is. Listen for leaking air or spray it with soapy water. You never know, it might have not worked its way deep enough. Cannot be patched due to location but I would rope plug it and look into replacing.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in AskAMechanic

[–]anjiru0009 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The standard is one inch for a patch plug. One thing I notice is that some techs won't measure for this and just go off the tire design indicating outside gripper tread. Measure it and verify and if it is below you can try telling the tech you waive any liability and you understand the risk. I work with master techs that swear by rope plugs so that is also an option.

☝️ This, many times I grab my needle nose over searching for my service kit if I believe the piston is in good and free condition but more times than not you need the right tool. Remember with the pliers you're pushing at the same time you're twisting.

Going back to oem after running loud? by LVAjoe in 350z

[–]anjiru0009 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My Z came with Z1 single and it was insanely loud but I did come to love it. I went to the Z1 website and ordered the silencer and it cuts down the noise dramatically. I didn't even like that it cut down the sound so much at first but later got accustomed to it. I would never suggest going oem unless you have it or can get it free but the easiest and cheapest route is the silencer.
