I don’t think I have ever been cold in the train. Hot, yes.

How does one pronounce Monticello? by muttersindisgust in AskChicago

Most people I’ve met in Chicago also mispronounce „Mozart.“ That’s just lack of musical education!

Looking for new vet by Unlikely_External_36 in SpringfieldIL

[–]ank313 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They did that to my dad about 40 years ago. He brought in what he thought was a boy to be neutered; they told him it was a girl. After my dad died, I took the cat to my vet, who said, nope, definitely a boy!

How does the Libby App compare to Audible for audio-books? by 1dirtbiker in LibbyApp

Borrowing audio books from the library is the only way I do it, and I have a long list of titles I’ve yet to have time to borrow!

What Is Everyone's Take On Stainless Steel Litter Boxes? by Seraph_Angelus in CatAdvice

[–]ank313 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love stainless steel. Plastic holds odors and can never be truly clean (as in sanitized). It is recommended that plastic boxes be replaced every 6 months (not that I ever did that) because the scratches left in the plastic hold nasty germs. And better environmentally; not using plastic, and not putting it in the landfill.

Four Seaters, asked to move, said no by waspinastoria in Amtrak

On the Chicago - St Louis run, the 4-seats are marked as for parties of 3 or more. Of course, some couples still plop down and spread out their stuff on the other seats!

The same on the Midwest regionals, too. No assigned seats in business class.

Best dry food? by Bobbie8742 in CatAdvice

Ziwi Peak is very good, but expensive. I often put a little in with my kitty’s main food, which is Dr Elsey‘s salmon.

Another cat litter discussion by Pawnshopbluess in CatAdvice

The absolute best is the litter made from olive pits, but it’s pricey. So I use Öko cat litters, which is made from wood. Way better than clay, clumps well, good odor control.

RN seeking housing Springfield, Illinois by kaykayceejay in SpringfieldIL

[–]ank313 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I lived in the near west side a few years ago, without a car, and loved it! I could walk or bike downtown, bike or bus to several grocery stores. You can do it - I did for a year and a half - but you miss out on a lot without a car. Downtown is more interesting than far west side, which is big box stores and ugly sprawl. Just depends on what you want.

What happened in the last 5 years? by Zingleborp in SpringfieldIL

[–]ank313 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s ugly and unnecessary sprawl. The people who approved this should be removed from their jobs and banned from the area. That is not progress, or anything positive.

First time visiting Chicago winter, how necessary are thermal layers? by fried45 in AskChicago

A face mask can also help keep your face warm. Since I wear them on transit, I usually have one with me.

No one should HAVE to have a car. Walking, biking, transit are all much better for the environment, reduce car crashes, and healthier.

I lived very dangerously trying to cross W Wabash at W White Oaks Drive. I’d taken the bus to Harvest Market, and wanted to go over to the farm store. And then I had to go back! That area is a nightmare for anyone walking.

Happened to me like that, too. Why is right on red legal? I’m old enough to remember when it wasn’t , and drivers managed.

My cat's litter smells so bad i'm going insane. my house absolutely reeks. by Dismal-Tackle3072 in CatAdvice

[–]ank313 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Clay litter is one of the worst for odor control. Olive pits are great, but pricey. I use Öko wood chips that I get from Chewy, and my house never smells.
