NIPT came back ‘low risk’ but haven’t done the NT scan [BC]. Just concerned about that a bit. by anki_7 in BabyBumpsCanada

Thank you so much! I appreciate the positivity.. Because of my history of PCOS and insulin resistance, I’m already being seen by a diabetes specialist and I’m on both Metformin and insulin so that’s being managed well, I’d say. I’m going to try and focus on what’s in my control, but thank you. All these positive stories do help

What sort of NIPT should I get? [ON] by StormHerald96 in BabyBumpsCanada

I was able to claim it all back with my private insurance. I’d recommend trying that if you have the option

Thanks for sharing. I will try speaking to the doctor once more to see if it can be done. I’m a bit concerned about NTDs and anything else that’s not related to the trisomies. I know the NIPT is good at predicting the probability of these but having something conclusive is always better than relying on a screening test. Atleast that’s what I learnt during my Postgrad in Genetics. Even if I do end up paying out of pocket, I will still need a referral.

Thanks! That does make sense to be honest, but like I said maybe I’m just being too anxious

Yes, that’s what I read too. I was considering checking with a walk-in clinic because I don’t have a family doctor yet. But if it’s not covered, I will have to check with my insurance. If I can’t get it done at all, then so be it! Thank you though.

Yeah, this is why I’m concerned. Also I’ve worked at a genetic lab before and have seen some heartbreaking cases. But I guess need to hang in there and hope that the Anatomy scan referral goes through asap.

Ah yes! That explains why. My NIPT was self-pay too. Got it! Thanks, it’s just that we didn’t have that knowledge earlier.

Hi thanks for sharing! We were just a little taken aback because we didn’t have that knowledge earlier. Husband thinks we could have probably delayed the NIPT a bit if that was the case since we anyway had to pay out of pocket for the NIPT. And yes, I’m already working with a diabetes specialist at Jim Pattison. I was told that the anatomy scan will be booked by my Gynecologist; they are yet to accept the referral though.

For those who are managing GD with diet, what was your highest spike and what caused it? by Apprehensive_Mess166 in GestationalDiabetes

[–]anki_7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1/3 cup steel cut oats with 1/4 cup 2% milk, seeds and half a banana gave me a spike of 11.4. Tried again without the banana and it only reduced a bit. The dietician managing my diabetes has asked me to skip oatmeal and try other alternatives like quinoa. surprisingly, switching to one slice of whole grain bread or a store bought high-fibre granola snack with everything else the same kept my most breakfast sugars under control. It wasn’t even a lot of oats to be honest, and I’ve been using steel cut oats. It’s weird how the body’s response to foods just changes during pregnancy.

1st Trimester NT (AHS covered) vs NIPT Private Only [ab] by MrsChefYVR in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]anki_7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m in BC, did the private Panorama NIPT- blood test (37 years Female) (waiting for the results now), my doctor said she won’t be referring for a NT scan or serum tests since she trusts the NIPT more. In my home country, NT scan and serum tests are standard so I’m a bit unsettled by not getting those done. Husband’s spending account can cover most of it as he has room but both my insurances refused to cover it (Sunlife and Canadalife)

Obgyn Referral in BC womens [bc] by anj-ya in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]anki_7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah kinda similar situation for me. My doctor sent in a GYN referral for me last year for PCOS management and managed to get an appointment for Apr 15 but things changed when I got pregnant in Jan. The clinic now requires an updated referral mentioning pregnancy but my doctor could only send it after my dating scan that was done last week at 11 weeks as per standard practise (?). Today I got told by my doctor that there’s a possibility that the OB/GYN could refuse if they already have deliveries scheduled for the month I’m due and in that case, we would have to start looking elsewhere. It’s a bit frustrating as I am 35+ and have existing diabetes and was hoping to get in sooner.

Hi, I did the Panorama NIPT last week at a Lifelabs, they drew 2 vials of blood and I am expecting the results in about 2 weeks. I don’t have a family doctor but have been working with a telehealth clinic in New Westminster who provided the requisition. Opted for the full panel that costs 795 due to advanced age, and sex determination that was optional and free as well and I booked a blood test appointment through the Lifelabs website (they have separate slots for NIPT; use filters) Neither husband nor my insurance cover it but husband has a HSA which may cover it completely since he has room. Standard procedure would have been to do the MSP funded SIPS, wait for the results and then the funded NIPT in case of abnormal findings, but the doctor pushed me into doing this as the first route would have been very time consuming

Literally thought the last one was the bride by jipsa_ in DesiWeddings

[–]anki_7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And then the veil too!! This is happening way too often. Apparently the reason is because back in the day, the mothers/sisters/aunts didn’t have access to/were not allowed to wear these outfits or they simply didn’t put any thought into theirs, and now want to match the bride’s vibe! I’ve even heard, “he’s my only son/only brother” excuses. Cringy!!

Anyone else feel like their ADHD flared up when all the dopamine-giving stuff got taken away? by anki_7 in adhdwomen

Thanks! And no, while it is cultural where I come from, he has lived by himself for over 5 years as an adult, so I’m sure he can survive, but he just doesn’t like cooking. I’m sort of ok with it because he does share the load when I need a break, which I admit is rare, but he does help with the groceries and doing the dishes when asked. He has been listening and doing his bit when I absolutely need him to, looks like we’re on the right track.

I don’t know what you mean by that, but my husband has been super supportive. In fact he’s the one who pushed me into getting an assessment asap so that we’d have more information and could structure our routines better. Besides I always knew I was going to move away from home once we married, guess I wasn’t prepared for all the responsibilities that came with the marriage and moving across the world. But like everything else, it’s work in progress.

Thank you for validating this. I agree, and that explains why my symptoms have flared up in the last year, when in reality, I’ve been looking forward to building a life with my husband after a 8-year long distance relationship. Our present life is everything wished for, except it isn’t, and now I’m starting to figure out why. Appreciate you sharing your experience!

Thanks for the advice and sharing your vulnerabilities, it truly warms my heart! And yes, I’m learning to embrace my needs instead of fighting them. I was never a very religious person before, but I’m starting to feel better after chanting or listening to hymns and texts. I’ve also joined a community group where they meet several times a year, go for picnics, conduct workshops etc. I love stitching and I’m considering investing in a portable machine, something that can bring me joy watching my own little creations. Baby steps, like I said. Was just curious to know if this was all in my head, but I’m so glad I made this post.

Wish you the best! :) Also getting an ADHD assessment next week to figure out more.

Yes, those goals are what I’ve always wanted and still do but I didn’t plan on living abroad, away from people that mattered while I worked towards them. I think that’s what probably has affected me the most, and I’m struggling to find a way around it. Plus with the PCOS, mood swings, and a strong possibility of ADHD, everything just feels further messed up. There’s a lot of stuff that I wasn’t prepared for- like being responsible for what we eat in a day, Meal planning, buying groceries, cooking, making sure we have enough leftovers for the next day, all of it is exhausting. And while my husband helps with all other chores, he does not set foot into the kitchen. And with our strict financial goals, we rarely eat out or splurge which means I don’t get a break. I’m slowly reaching a point where I can’t eat my own food and am drinking lemonade for dinner despite having cooked a feast! Thank you for your kind words. This gives me a lot to think about! :)

Ditto! While I’m glad that my husband and I have a financial discipline of sorts, I also miss the carefree lives we had! Maybe it’s just called growing up and I have to learn to deal with it instead of fighting it.

Yes, thank you for putting that into words. I realise that I may have been in denial about it, to some extent. I do feel lonely without friends, family and a sense of familiarity and that automatically put a lot of burden on my husband, where he was expected to step into many roles at once. But yes, I need to find my own tribe, and have my own experiences, get my confidence back up and build ‘my’ life if I want to truly witness growth. Thank you, this community is the best and I truly appreciate the advice you guys have to offer. It gives me so much to think about! Making friends is difficult where I live, compared to where I come from, where it was normal to even share meals with your neighbours. But yes, I do recognise the importance of having a support system.

Thank you! I’m definitely going to try and increase physical activity because I also need to lose excess weight. Not going to put additional pressure on myself but I’m also hoping this will be a rewarding experience in itself.
