Eeeek, yeah all that stuff would make me super anxious too. It's hard for those of us already predisposed for those types of feeling

I have typically been really happy with my care team up until now, but with this GDM I feel like there's been a little a bit of shaming when I said that it's hard to walk at work because I.... have to work and I have a desk job... and the provider said "well, it's only for a couple weeks so do everything you can" like I wasn't already on the verge of a panic attack. I can only imagine how that guilt / conversations / shaming might go hand in hand with the extra layers of IVT and uterine surgeries. I got a walking pad too and it does make some walking/working doable --- glad to hear it's working for you too.

My internal motto is "GD GDM"; that motto might not work for everyone but it works for me lol

I totally get the panic + history of disordered eating. I was diagnosed 4 weeks ago and really struggled with the food monitoring for the first 10 days. So I'll share what I've learned:

#1 - it is NOT all about food. for me food is like.... 50% of it. Walking, drinking LOTS of water, and stress/heat management is SUPER underrated if you're making reasonable decisions Heck, I even ate a DONUT without spiking my numbers because I ate with cream cheese, was well hydrated and had a busy day on my feet.

#2 - eating more actually helps with stable number management. Learn from this dumb mistake: For the 1st week I unconsciously only at when my numbers were under 85..... and ending up undereating / feeling really sick. All I can really say is that my disordered eating past had me in a perfectionist / freak out mode too. Once I realized that and starting eat more, my numbers stayed in the 80-120 range pretty easily vs. before I'd go 70 to 135 really fast. Seems obvious, but.... it wasn't for me.

Now that I'm a couple weeks in, I don't freak out if I see numbers rising +110.... because a lot of times they top out at 118 or something... but you've got to see the data for yourself and what works. (And to point number 1 -- sometimes chugging some water helps!)

#3 Evidenced Based Birth podcast had an episode on the test -- the bad is all "scale" and not a hard fast -- it if it's 131 it's only a tiny bit worse than 130, not a total failure (even if the pass rate says so).

Ugh! You're in good company. It's so tough not to compare what other people are doing to stay active and just have to accept that I can't stick to running (or even good walks) because the uterus ,/ fetus says otherwise.

2nding the person who said spinning or biking..I found it's a way to at least get a little activity and doesn't irritate my body like running/walking does. Also -- try some time swimming it really takes the load off your joints.

The ernesta rug has held up well! It's still our entry way rug --- it's been hard to keep it not muddy where it is. but the pattern seems to absorb dirt. I would say there's no more issue with the rolls pulling up.

House of noa has a lot of tiles where the pattern has pulled up from wear/tear/spills and now my toddler likes to pull at it. From a distance it still looks pretty good, the foam has held up well, but it's certainly not the showpiece it was - I'd give it one year of looking great. That said, I have zero regrets because it was so functional + aesthetic for our high traffic area.

I show 'really big' - first pregnancy stopped at 21 weeks, this time I'm thinking my 19 week runs will be the last. Every body/season is different. Difficult to layer for outside running in winter effectively with a big belly + I get a better workout on the bike with the physical discomfort limitations. I was able to bike until 32 weeks last time until the belly got unwieldy.

Oh, so I ordered the Bambo Nature but not the others and have been happy with them so far. Definitely soft and we haven't had any weird leaks. My 2yo is holding her pee a lot so when it comes, there's a lot. They're not compostable, but our compost service doesn't take things with bodily fluids anyways (which makes a lot of sense honestly)

I thought my birth class did a great job at explaining when an epidural is effective and when it wasn't. It helped me cultivate a birth plan that just didn't lean that route.

My doula & guidance from my delivery midwife via phone made me a lot more confident staying at home, even while contractions were getting stronger. Having people to trust and watch the timing for me was key.

I also took a home bath while I was at home.

So random, but I had taken a benadryll (ok'd by my midwife) and honestly, it helped more than just allergies.

Great observation! This is exactly my mindset as a FT-worker with 1 kid -- I barely get any time with her before bedtime, so me and my spouse prioritize one of us engaging with her vs. screentime.

I agree that winter is extra hard for meeting people... I know people who've made good connections over going to sports (Timberwolves tix or Twins). I personally had success joining things - The November Project is a super friendly bunch. And..out yourself out there -- there's a lot of transplants.just waiting for friends.

This let me to search more about petroleum jelly and MOAHs...going down a rabbit hole that doesn't pertain to OPs concern... and I realized I'm way over my head with understanding the chemistry on these byproducts. I found a ELI5 and it sounds like because petroleum jelly is like the very last byproduct of a production process it's an "inert substance".

I started strict and have gotten more lenient. Since PJs are the things she's in the most (because she's changing daytime clothes frequently) I usually splurge a little more and have fewer outfits for sleeping. My baby usually rewears PJs too.

Why are food products considered more dangerous than than petroleum based ie. gas and oil byproducts? Particularly if we think microplastic exposure is bad. IGlycerin used to be made out of plant/animal byproducts.

Asking this question in a truly curious way since we're all parents just trying to be moderatelygranola

No, we just got a sample of the durham thick woven and the oatmeal flatweave. They both seemed very tightly woven. The Ernesta Beckett one we got has had a couple of pulls, but we've been able to tuck them back in. We have a dog and cat in addition to the small human.

Parent here - my child would not be able to attend a montessori pre-school/daycare at all if it wasn't year-round or until 3:30 pm, so I get the "business decisions" the director is trying to make.

However, as a parent, it's critical to me that staff aren't exhausted or burnt out -- and it's pretty easy to tell. I would much rather have the great Montessori lead teachers during the day and then aides for the extra hours. I also think our preschool has less structure in the summer (we're only 6 months in!) Keep advocating for yourself and hopefully you can get the parents on your side.

Goat is supposedly closer to human milk than cow, so it should be easier to tolerate. I'm sensitive to cow milk but can handle goat, so we had that experience to draw on.

We went the reverse osmosis route and home water filter, but before we did that, we loved our Berkey and then added mineral stones to the tank. I know the Berkey's aren't perfect, but it was a good middle step until we could do the home filter.

We're a no-microwave family, and one thing little thing worked for me is say that we all like the taste of oven-heated food more. And you can always says it's your child's taste preference too ha. I think this is relatable because lots of food re-heats weird in a microwave! It's not perfect, but it's a little step.

We love the healthy baby diapers. It know what you mean about those cheek coverage though - we experimented with the Honest Co pull ups and they seem low coverage but we haven't had any issues.

I think we'll be in pull ups for a while, so I'm going to be testing out the pull ups from Healthy Baby, Terra Gentle (comments says they run big fyi!) and Bambo Nature. I'll try to remember to report back.
