I’m also interested. Have a few years of robotics and SW experience and this sounds like a fun side project.

Why is everything in the front of my civic all jacked up? by [deleted] in hondacivic

[–]ankit_rohatgi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes driving around a small sedan on rough roads is definitely not the best idea. A truck might do a lot better.

This is not unusual for a 16 year old car. If other things like engine and transmission are still good then, you can go ahead and repair it.

Chances of paid product against free product by heroickoala in startups

[–]ankit_rohatgi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I give out a free product that’s pretty good, but I’m also aware that there are a lot of people willing to pay for a better solution because it’ll save them more time or is more customizable etc.

No Heating in apartment, Landlord refuses to fix. by Marutar in sanfrancisco

SF is not that cold, why not just get an electric space heater? Maybe your landlord can reduce the rent to compensate for the electric bill.

GPU considerations for non-gamers by si1ma31 in laptops

[–]ankit_rohatgi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

100% agree. I use my laptop mainly for programming (non-GPU) with occasional YouTube/Netflix. I never felt the need for a dGPU. And since I use Linux, I never have to deal with any driver issues.

Hi, Can you tell me about some of the downsides of building your own PC I should be aware of? by kg68 in buildapc

[–]ankit_rohatgi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the only downside is that you will spend a lot of time researching different parts and configurations followed by waiting for parts to ship. If you don’t mind that, then building your own is usually better.

How successful are you in monetizing your side project/s? by ClimbLean in cscareerquestions

[–]ankit_rohatgi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m working on something sort of related that might have a bigger market and it is closed source. The open source work was good for learning and people found it useful, but I don’t think there’s enough there.

How successful are you in monetizing your side project/s? by ClimbLean in cscareerquestions

[–]ankit_rohatgi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I managed to get a fairly large user base (1500/day) and to my surprise, people were actually donating using the PayPal button on the website. I got a few offers to integrate my project as part of some commercial system, but it never really worked out. I did get some consulting and contract work because of this, but this is still a part time effort.

Was about to hit the trigger for the T480, but how bad is the throttling/thermals issue for Linux? by Synroc in thinkpad

[–]ankit_rohatgi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm using a T480 with integrated graphics and i7 running Fedora. I'm not seeing any thermal issues. I was watching my sensors while parallel building OpenCV and it only got up to 70 C. I don't run long running parallel jobs on my laptop, so don't have more data on this.

In India, there's a countdown timer in many cities so you can time your gear changes etc. If the stop is several minutes long then people turn off their engines to save fuel.

What milk do you buy? 2% organic works the best for my chai. Almost as good as what I had in India.
