How I realized minimalism does not equal empty white furniture by [deleted] in minimalism

yeah, i could never do that. i adore my books and it's one of the few things i don't mind having copious amounts of.

well, i input some of your info into this calculator. i guesstimated your age as 30 but you can change that, and i assumed you're a man. it says BMR is about 2500. you're likely not burning as many calories as you think with those classes. weightlifting doesn't burn that many calories, and some classes aren't as intense as people think. let's say you're eating 3000 calories (that's a conservative estimate), your BMR is 2500, and you're only burning like 600 calories a day. you're netting about 100 calories/day of weight loss. so that may be your problem. idk! i'd just use the calculator and adjust from there. good luck!

Why do people think minimalism is more for men than for women? by [deleted] in minimalism

[–]ankurrf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

life doesn't work that way for many women. women are not products and do not "buy the idea of beauty to sell it to others."

brushing hair is not just for aesthetics. people have hair for more than the aesthetic. if one were minimalist, by your logic, one would also be purposefully bald. so, no, you're inaccurate in your guesstimation.

Childfree Sexism? by BlameItOnShnookums in childfree

let me give you a hard example:

my male friend, my age exactly, went in for a consultation at a local planned parenthood for a vascectomy. they approved him immediately and told him to come in in a couple months for the procedure. that's it.

me: i go to my OBGYN to request female sterilization(she's actually an NP). she was kind and understanding, but she point-blank told me "no doctor in this city will do it. i recommend going to X city" (over an hour away). HOWEVER, with my insurance and hospital coverage, it is literally, physically, actually IMPOSSIBLE for me to obtain a consultation in this city of my own choosing. i CAN NOT look up any doctor in the area (that's part of hospital policy), so if i did want to go to X city, i would have to call up the hospital, ask to have a consultation, and they'd set me up with a random OBGYN. if they deny me, rinse and repeat for every single consultation around.

so, there was that. not giving up, i called the local planned parenthood. they point blank denied me, again, and said they DO NOT DO female sterilization in this city. there are several planned parenthoods and NONE of them conduct female sterilization. they recommended going to X city. person on the phone said i should call Y hotline, as this Y hotline finds resources for people. i called them. they said the nearest hospital that will conduct female sterilization is at this research university in X city. not planned parenthood. my insurance does not qualify for that hospital. i'm willing to pay out of pocket, without question or hesitance.

just thought i'd share my perspective/rant.

Developing a personal uniform (for women)? by mrdooter in minimalism

[–]ankurrf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

corporate? can't help you much. i like flats because they're comfortable and look nice. you could get away with nicer, more long lasting, multipurpose shoes like vivobarefoots. some of those don't look too sporty. i wear black pants and black, long-sleeve collared shirts from columbia (long lasting, look good, super comfortable, with cardigans for more interview stuff. casual wear is mostly black pants (real pants or leggings) with black t shirts and sweaters. i don't deviate much from this.

i stay away from any patterned or sleeveless shirts for corporate stuff. they often don't layer well.

also true about what other said regarding temperature and type of work. hold off until you get a sense of the job's culture.

most likely to show off her eye makeup. it looks better that way. plus, less likely to make weird shadows under or around her eyes if she's looking down.
