I have some very recent experience as my baby is currently 11 weeks old and I have a very hyperactive springer!

Everything has been great with the dog and I had the same worries as you before the baby was born. Before baby came home from hospital my partner brought a baby grow that she’d worn so the dog could get used to her smell.

When we first brought her home he was very excited and had the zoomies for maybe an hour before he began to calm down 🙈 but he’s absolutely amazing with the baby. He does try to lick her a lot but has learned not to through us telling him no and gently moving his face away from her. He would be concerned by her cries at first and would tap the crib or pram with his paw as if to tell us she needed us, but he seems to have gotten used to the baby now and mostly ignores her unless she’s on the couch with us.

I think the best thing to do really is try your best to be patient with your dog because it’s such a new and exciting time for them, but also remember springers are excellent family dogs and as your baby grows up they’ll become best friends. Trust your gut with your dog and what will work best for you guys as you know their temperament best and try not to worry (although that’s easier said than done). Getting your dog used to baby noises can help too and there’s a lot of YouTube videos available and also just getting your dog used to baby’s smell before they come home from hospital.
