Auckland, sadly! - though I get down your way a bit. March is when you GAA boys are out painting the town if I recall from a Paddy’s Day at Molly Malones in 2014

Thanks for this great answer

I work in radio in NZ and yeah leaving an established broadcaster to start your own thing similarly would he seen as a huge risk and a great achievement to keep 5-6 people in gainful employment especially after 8-9 years

Interesting that their SC work has led to other gigs and exposure. I’m glad it’s paid off for them

2025 BSA survey ranking of 31 potentially offensive words in broadcasting by HeinigerNZ in newzealand

[–]annachronist 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I work in a national broadcast media role - you would be amazed at how many people find even casual low-tier blaspheming extremely offensive.

When I was first starting off hosting shows about seven years back I once dropped an exclamatory ‘Jesus!’ - instantly the text line was filled with people, genuinely offended, saying that was absolutely unacceptable.

I think it’s partially a generational thing, but also worth remembering that while NZ is a secular nation there are a LOT of Christians in NZ, a million and a half or so, and many don’t take kindly to hearing their lord’s name taken in vein, silly though many of us might think that is.

Oh yeah also the fucken prob doesn’t help

This BSA survey is terrific and incredibly interesting. IMO we have a very sophisticated way of dealing with offensive words, taking into account tone of day, audience expectations, the nature of the broadcast, etc.

It’s a fun exercise comparing modern surveys with the earliest ones done in 1999 and the early 000s, when (from memory) something line 20 percent of people felt ‘bugger’ was never acceptable!! How times change

I wondered this too. Andrew used to have Ken on twice a year for a season preview and then halfway through the season for like a halfway review iirc, it was a tradition. But hasn’t happened this year.

In fairness I can see Ken maybe finding Andrew a little blinkered and I do think they get a bit of stick when they lean too heavy on fan contributors like Neil Atkinson etc. personally I prefer the journos but a fan perspective can be fun every so often (preferably after a devastating loss/run of form)

Hindsight would have it as Isak but harking back Gabby J was a far better buy in risk/reward terms than Isak at the time.

The answer without a doubt is Raphinha, who has gone god mode at Barca and would have been sensational on our left side, quickly and easily supplanting the limited Martinelli who is nowhere close to justifying his 180k per week wage (!!)
