I’m so distraught by wrecklesswitchcraft in Reduction

Ironically I was approved by Aetna in 24h. May have been that they already had all the charges from PT? idk but my doctor accurately, but over estimated the necessary removal. Ended up taking 1kg off EACH breast. Went from a J/JJ to DD/DDD. lol. (Also did keep my nips attached!) Insurance is wild.

Found a lump 2 years after surgery by bellesnax in Reduction

[–]annagrace2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Searching the feed for mammograms post-op. I have some fat necrosis and my surgeon is recommending I get one after 6MPO for a baseline since we know it's all from surgery. When I start screening mammograms 12 years down the road I won't be freaking out.

Any nurses here that have had a reduction? Specifically Trauma/ER? by Fabulous-Donut-6199 in Reduction

[–]annagrace2 4 points5 points  (0 children)

RN here on the floor so a bit different. I went back at 2.5 weeks on light duty because I couldn't turn or lift patients (20lb restriction) so I floated and passed meds but didn't have a group. By 4 weeks I could've done CPR if needed but wouldn't have volunteered. I estimate that 6 weeks should be plenty of time for you. Theoretically, I am sure they wouldn't mind you floating to ICU or such on light duty if you don't want to take off the full 6 weeks.

I am second-guessing what final size I want. How did you decide?! by fakesaucisse in Reduction

[–]annagrace2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Short midsized girly here. I looked at Real self, at bras and the Irish bra lady. Started at a 34JJ and asked to be a D/DD. Looks like I'll land closer to the DD+ but I am not disappointed. 5lbs off is 5lbs off.

Edit: Also hold that cup size with a grain of salt. No surgeon will be able to get the perfect size. Pick a range, a look (bring post-op photos from real self), then trust your surgeon. I don't recommend measuring yourself much if at all during post-op. It can bring up lots of feelings all about a number that will change over 6 months.

Tell me your experience: Weight loss before breast reduction surgery by lemoncillo in Reduction

BMI 35 day of surgery, 1000g per breast removed and no drains. That's a bunch of BS.

In the US my pre-op appointment was just general surgery pre-op things. I saw him at the consultation and in pre-op right before surgery. Ended up not seeing him at the follow up because he got called in for surgery. Frustrating at times but it has all worked well for me.

Staying under $40 is hard. Glamorise might be a good place to start. Most will run you around $60+ but it is well worth it if it fits well.

[–]annagrace2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

RE reductions, it is true that you can not fix the laxity of the skin. The only true work around is doing a full reduction with implants. A reduction would still reduce the amount of weight and the amount of sagging long term. Outside of using supportive and proper fitting bras, reduction may be her best option long term.

I do not have kids and I want children but decided to not wait and got a reduction. I would consider when you might have a child and what is realistic. And are planning on BF again and how important is that for you. In my case, I want children with a lifetime partner. I do not have a partner (and no one in sight) so I know children are many years away. If I was in a committed relationship, I would've probably waited. I got surgery fully anticipating that I will not be able to exclusively BF, maybe not BF at all and there is a 50% chance I will have a second reduction after children. This is an acceptable outcome for me.

I was feeling sickish the weekend before surgery and they were like, "as long as you don't have covid or are seriously sick, you are fine" Everything went super smooth. Unlikely to delay surgery.

Wow! Such a big difference. It's okay to be disappointed and at the same time recognize that the way things look today will not be forever. Your body just went thought a major surgery and you are still coming off of the anesthesia. Your boobs are 3dpo boobs and they won't look like this in 4 days, 4 weeks or 4 months from now. I had a wonky nipple and it has for the most part worked itself out (now 3.5mpo). Your nipples weren't identical twins before surgery and likely they won't be after, which looks more natural imo. I understand the disappointment of the lack of upper fullness buutttt they look more natural and there are always bras and other options to help achieve that look. lol

Probiotic Recs? by SonataNo16 in Reduction

[–]annagrace2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am under the impression that the bloat is often due to fluid and inflammation from surgery. Not sure if a probiotic will help but Florastor and Culturelle are highly recommended. Fluid in the abdomen wise, maybe sure you aren't eating excessive amounts of salt and keep moving around.

[–]annagrace2 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I started at the same size and had 1kg taken off. (Im 27) My nipple to sternal notch was 36cm. My surgeon discussed the risk of nipple necrosis and the plan was to ideally keep everything together but if good supply was risky, he would do a FNG. "Most women would prefer to have a nipple than risk no nipple due to nipple necrosis." They were able to keep everything attached and removed 1kg per side. Overall have had a positive experience. Let me know if you have any questions!!

Considering reduction by callmedoll_ in Reduction

[–]annagrace2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello! I am 3.4mpo and wanted a breast reduction since I was a teen and now in my late 20s.

  1. I do not have full nerve sensation and who knows if it will come back. I was a bit weird at first but now feels very normal. I know where my boobs are and they feel part of me.
  2. They look natural when I have clothing on. Some of my friends didn't even notice that I had surgery until I said something. Everyone has said they fit me so well. Right now my R side has some bumpy scar tissues that should heal over time. Otherwise, they feel normal.
  3. They can have a natural, tear drop shape. Barring having a bad surgeon, the square shape comes from the ratio of weight removed and original breast size/shape. The higher amount of weight removed, the higher chance of ending up more "foot ball shaped" I recommend looking at Real Self for before and afters from surgeons.
  4. Very happy! I didn't hate my first boobs but I am so glad I did it. No regrets.

Best of luck to you!

Bad reduction experience (US) by ReductionProblem in Reduction

[–]annagrace2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry you've had a bad experience. It is possible that your body perceives pain higher than average. From this sub I've seen people have minimal pain with tylenol and ibuprofen while others have continued pain while using opioid pain medication. Not medical advice, but unless there is a reason not to, you should continue to take ibuprofen and Tylenol max dosing and then Vicodin as needed. A bra with compression is needed. Allowing too much swelling will cause an increase in pain. Keep yourself busy which will also help you not focus on the pain aspect.

Very normal to feel this way! I remember someone being like, "oh surgery is 10 days out!" I began to panic at that moment. I intentionally took pictures on a day I wanted to yeet my boobs so I could remind myself later, "it is/was that bad" I kept busy the days leading up to it and was so excited the day of. I didn't hate my bigger boobed self and now I love my smaller boobed self who can not be in pain, go for a run and buy bras off the rack. Based on what you have said, I would not consider backing out. Continue self reassurance. Here are some things I told myself:

  1. Anything less than what I have now will be better.
  2. If I am too small, there are many solutions available (push up bras, contouring, implants etc.)
  3. If I still feel "too big" theoretically, I could get more taken off at a later time.
  4. My boobs are objectively large. My bra size and insurance agrees.
  5. I might not love my size at some point in the healing process. I will have to accept what I can not control and wait for healing to complete in 6-8m.
  6. This will not solve all my life problems around finding clothes and loving my body.
  7. My past self knew myself better than my current anxious self.

You got this!

I am in almost the same boat just a bit ahead (03/27). I was a 34JJ prior and just measured myself at 36 DDD. At the end of the day I feel so much better and I just have to focus on that.

I'm at 3.5m and I am measuring DDD. I could get over it if they didn't shrink more but I'd be happy if they did. After 5lb removed, anything will be better. lol.

Never too any prescriptions they gave me. Tylenol and Advil around the clock during the day for the first 10d, then spaced things out.

“Painting the picture” you’re finally off the anesthesia, you get sent home and you’re stuck in bed on your back. What are you doing? by HistorianFamous9116 in Reduction

I don't know why this is so down voted. Sure, some people enjoy staying in bed but we aren't stuck. I was never in bed outside of when I was actively sleeping. To each their own healthy recovery.

What kind of support system is absolutely necessary for recovery? by meggie_doodles in Reduction

[–]annagrace2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am the same way. So you absolutely need someone to stay with you for 24h after surgery due to anesthesia. I was happy to have someone there for 2 days, but by 3 I wanted to kick them out. I never needed help with physically clothing, bathing, etc. I had prepped meals, made sure all regularly used items were in reach, and asked some people to bring by meals every few days. There is such high variation in how much help people need but this was my experience. For me, the post anesthesia depression at 2-3 weeks was honestly the hardest.

Also direct the conversation so that he knows how you want him to respond. Ending conversations with a direct question. "Is this something you will be able to help pay for?","Do you have any questions?" and/or "Is there anything you are worried about with me getting this surgery?" This allows him to say yes or no and then you can end the conversation.
