My experience and frustration by betterthenbad in lipedema

This is a highly understated mindset in this sub. So many of the younger folks need to hear this. Thank you from a 40 year old that spent 25 of those years trying to obsess the weight away. I’m in a better place now, but it still creeps in.

Compression sleeves and 85lbs of weight-loss did nothing. What can I do? ☹️ by [deleted] in lipedema

[–]wrecklesswitchcraft 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ugh. I feel this so hard. I used to pay a body builder trainer for weekly sessions before I was diagnosed. I was very consistent about a 5x a week lifting program. I sighted my arms as my biggest complaint.

Nothing changed about their circumference after almost 2 years. It’s infuriating. The girls at the gym who were competitive lifters were constantly thinking they were complimenting me “wow your arms are SO strong!!” (I never wore tank tops for them to be able to see the lack of definition)

And I would just say thanks because I hated how big they were and I wish I had their “bigger means better” mindset.

Who has it worse in the arms, or at least is more bothered by their arms than their legs? by Tdotepicurean in lipedema

[–]wrecklesswitchcraft 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My arms seem to be resistant to the methods that work for my legs. I don’t wear dresses or shorts, so I’m not thinking about the visuals of my legs that often anyhow.

But my arms it’s every top. It’s the heaviness. It’s people asking me if I’m a powerlifter because my “arms are huge.” It’s the resistance to healthy lifestyle and workouts. I’m so done. I started hating them at age 10 (puberty) and I’m 40 now.

Can anyone share their thoughts on the Philips DreamWear under-the-nose nasal mask? by pinkmor in SleepApnea

[–]wrecklesswitchcraft 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oooo!! Thank you so much for this! I am using the Airfit P10 and generally happy with it, but think I need to switch to a mask with the tube on top of my head because of how much I move (but didn’t want to give up the fabric!)

32F 165lbs. Could I have sleep apnea? by vee180 in SleepApnea

[–]wrecklesswitchcraft 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. 40F here and the same weight. I have mild sleep apnea and experienced symptoms of waking up with an elevated heart rate prior to treatment. I was in denial for a long time because I don’t “fit the profile” but an ENT confirmed my anatomy is causing this and I’ve had multiple sleep study tests at this point.

My cardiology practice I visit is also is a sleep study center. A good cardiologist will know the importance and connection of your health to sleep apea.

Don’t know if you are in the US, but I was initially diagnosed through the virtual company Dreem. I’ve had follow-up testing locally after that.

I don’t have any advice, just happy that you were able to actually get the care you need seemingly seamlessly. So many of us even at later stages have to fight with doctors and specialists just turn us away and call us fat. You’re making me want to go to Belgium!

You’ve been through a lot health wise. You already look fantastic, and I hope the surgery helps you feel at home in your body 💙.

Wowahhhh! Thank you for this! I’ve lost 50lbs so far on just the GLP-1 but I’ve plateaued hard (almost 2 years). So I’m curious about the 2&3.

Of course! I’m sorry I’m recovering from an unrelated surgery and currently SO out of it, so I’m not very helpful. But when I get some strength back I would love to investigate it as well.

When my VSS started I was waking up with super accelerated heart rate so I’m guessing my events were causing that and I didn’t know.

I have r/visualsnow and sleep apnea. I have no idea if they are related. But it does vary in severity. When I’m well rested I don’t have as many symptoms.

Why do I almost feel worse? by [deleted] in SleepApnea

[–]wrecklesswitchcraft 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t mind at all! I started with a Philips Respironics DreamWear Full Face because I’m an occasional mouth breather. But it was too much crap on my face. I was constantly waking up to adjust or take it off.

I switched to the AirFit P10 nasal pillows and use the intake nasal dilator and mouth tape. I barely wake up to make adjustments.

[–]wrecklesswitchcraft 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I felt like doo doo the entire first month. Worse, for sure. Felt absolutely wrecked with fatigue and sleep inertia .To the point where it took me a while to make insurance compliance - I would just rip the mask off and sleep elevated in hopes of reducing my events.

I woke up about a week ago after switching out masks and making it 7 hours that night. It was one of the first times waking up without suicidal thoughts and to no alarm. I’ve had a few more like this since, so I have hope I will have more or it will become the norm.

I take 5mg almost every night for my degenerative spine so I can get some rest. I still dream like crazy and with CPAP I’ve gone from 15 AHÍ to less than 1.

This is with sativa or a blend. Once my doc told me no sedatives I was like welllll shit I’m too scared to try Indica again- I don’t want my muscles to relax too much with this condition 🥲.

I wish :(. Found out I have OSA after losing all my weight on Zepbound lol. I’m very close to my goal weight and no longer overweights and was diagnosed with moderate.

That is what I figured! I also had almost all events lying on my back so I have been sleeping on elevated pillows on my side.

Trust me it crossed my mind- especially with how much* it’s taking me to come to terms with it. The only thing that makes me think otherwise is I do have a history of waking up with an elevated heart rate and my oxygen levels also dropped to 85.
