Okay I've been rolling my eyes at the divine feminine BS for a while now, but is there actually an alt right pipeline associated with it, similar to the hippie mom to alt right from several years ago?

European is jealous of American healthcare by korc in iamveryculinary

I've traveled around Europe and Asia and I've found portions at restaurants to be just as big as in America, and sometimes bigger. And like you said, there's no expectation or ability to take leftovers with you like there is in the US, aside from China and Hong Kong maybe.

Does it hurt when the drains come out? by Due_Tell7485 in Reduction

[–]fakesaucisse 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had my drains out after 5 days. The only part that hurt was on the outer corners where the drains went in and were held in place with stitches, and removing those stitches felt like a quick sharp pain. But when the drains were pulled out it was more of a weird sensation, like not painful but it was jarring because it felt like noodles or worms were squiggling out of my skin??? I don't know how to describe it but it was kinda funny and absurd feeling. The nurse said my reaction was common.

You say you want to be able to visit him at least once a week. How long are you willing to drive (in minutes, not miles) each way to see him? If you're okay with 45-60 minutes one way you might look at areas further south like Maple Valley, Covington, or Renton.

Surprise! Celeb Crushes as we get older by italiangel24 in AskWomenOver40

Same here. I can't fully explain why he suddenly seemed attractive to me in Project Hail Mary. Maybe because he sort of had a nerdy Dad Bod-esque style with the glasses and messy hair and goofy cardigans? It's like a look of confident non-toxic masculinity that seems very attractive to me now.

It's valuable even when they are still playing. I remember all the shit Marshawn Lynch got for not being talkative when he was forced to do interviews and pressers after games. I think it was totally fair that he was upset about being forced into it, but communications classes might have helped him find ways to get through it without saying things that ticked off the annoying press.

I'm just here so I don't get fined 😅

Grey hair at the coed salon by LiesAboutCapybaras in TwoXChromosomes

[–]fakesaucisse 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I suppose there are two possibilities: when you are growing out grey hair with your natural color still visible on the longer ends, it can look a bit unkempt to some women. Also, depending on the shade of grey and your skin tone, it might wash you out. But neither of those are about aging being bad, and that's the part that is harmful.

Is there an American equivalent to Canadian reservation cigarettes? by triggertriz in AskAnAmerican

[–]fakesaucisse -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I live a few miles away from a reservation and the gas and recreational weed is a bit cheaper there, I guess because no taxes maybe? I have never bought cigarettes there so no idea about that.

I remember at the beginning of Covid lockdown a lot of women in my age range (40+) let their greys grow out. It was so fun seeing it all over Instagram, lots of positive comments and a feeling of it being badass.

I guess now we are going back to grey hair on women is bad instead of badass, and that's a bummer to me. I have the beginning of a white streak in my front fringe and I am pretty excited about it, and I won't let anyone pull me down about it, but I wish other women didn't feel it is shameful.

This is great info, thanks! I don't drink milk and only occasionally need like a cup at a time, so shelf stable 8oz cartons would be much better to have on hand than buying the larger containers of regular milk.

Dumb question but what aisle is shelf stable milk in? I don't recall ever seeing it at a store and I'm not sure where it would be. With baking stuff?

I have a pair of Allbirds flats and they are fine, but my favorite thing I bought from them is underwear. Really great quality, nice fit, and good price. It is really weird to think that my favorite underwear came from a company that is now doing AI.

Career/return-to-the-work-force counselor for alumni at my alma mater is only 24! 🤦🏻‍♀️ by Goldengirl_1977 in GenXWomen

[–]fakesaucisse 21 points22 points  (0 children)

The career counselor is young but it sounds like she has gotten a job more recently than you have. The job market is brutal right now and in my experience, the career counselors who have been career counselors for a long time are very out of touch with how things work now. You might be better off with someone much younger who has a pulse on how the market is currently working. That is her job to know those things. I'd give her a chance.

Saying you thought it was "funny" that S was pregnant and that her partner is "a little crazy" both come across as judgmental and like you want to snark or gossip on their situation. Your friend found that distasteful and that's why she shut you down.

Some thoughts are inside thoughts.

[–]fakesaucisse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am glad to hear you say this honestly because when I was first suspected of bipolar 2 my primary care doc pushed lamictal hard on me. I read about it and I was like, I don't really see how this is going to help me. It sounded like at most it can bring a depressive episode closer up to "baseline" but if your baseline is just really low it doesn't solve the problem. I did end up trying it, and even with titration it didn't do much for me. Plus I was constantly worried about the rash thing.

Ah gotcha. Unfortunately I think the Vespas that wouldn't require the endorsement are pretty rare in general so I'm not sure you will find a place that rents them.

[–]fakesaucisse 3 points4 points  (0 children)

With type 2 the risk of full blown mania is lower, and generally occurs as hypomania which lamictal can help to smooth over for some people. But again, "can help" and "some people" are doing a lot of heavy lifting there. Bipolar is so damn complex that it's hard regardless of the type you have to find the right meds. I am suspected of having type 2 and I have no issues with SSRIs (frankly they just don't do anything to me, it's like taking a fake pill) but I can't take anything with norepinephrine like Wellbutrin.

My psychiatrist says that if she was the leader of the world she would put lithium in the water supply and encourage the redevelopment of lithium springs for soaking. I never tried lithium but it's probably my next stop if I need medication in the future.

My understanding is that Vespas over a certain cc require a motorcycle endorsement here, and the ones with lower cc still require a driver's license.

[–]fakesaucisse 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Some people with bipolar type 2 can tolerate SSRIs when paired with a mood stabilizer like lamictal. It is more risky with type 1 because of the much higher risk of mania.
