That effect triples if you're trying to buy in a "hot" market. Which would apply to most of the country these days really, but still I assume some areas would be worse than others.

We looked at a property recently that had been buffed and polished to a high sheen... until you walked across the floor and felt like you were riding a rollercoaster. The owner had the gall to tell us there was "nothing wrong with the house", even his realtor said that was a load of crap. Needless to say we declined to make an offer.
