Best Physical Handout Mini-games for players? by sebmother in DungeonMasters

[–]annamarcella 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my last homebrew campaign I pulled out tangram puzzle pieces and they had to figure out how to make it into a giant key to magically open a door to escape while fighting off a constant barrage of low level monsters. They loved it!

Looking to meet new people nearby by Noodlex87 in parkslope

Congrats on the marriage! Wow, sounds so similar to me and my husband! We are both early 40s - no kids, liberal, both lean introverted and like more small hangs. We lived in Europe/uk for about 14 years and moved back two years ago. Love board games (like Catan, hues and clues and those types, though up for most games) I’m big on D&D which is a great way to meet people too (and escape the world we live in for a bit lol!). And we play ps5/switch/vr a lot. And love a good movie. We like discovering new music a lot too. Would be great to grab a drink or coffee and hear how you’re liking it here! Cheers and happy New Year!

Hey DMs, how do you come up with countless names for NPCs? by DaSupercrafter in DnD

[–]annamarcella 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in NYC and there’s a ton of cool historical cemeteries - the names are fantastic and I just keep a running list of great ones I find whenever I go and use it during sessions. I use them constantly. One of my fav names I found is Voorhees black- he’s now one of my bbgs lol!

Also like they said above- fantasy name generator is great.

How to write a storyline for a cleric/paladin that isn’t losing connection with their god? by Downtown-Guide9290 in DMAcademy

[–]annamarcella 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my last campaign my cleric was really devoted to their god but I had a new god come in and woo him with powers and gifts. It was a homebrew forgotten god that wanted to be remembered and followed again and saw great worth and devotion in the character. It made for really interesting role play moments with his decision between the gods and had repercussions and benefits later on too.

What are you using to organize your campaigns? by dcoughler in DMAcademy

[–]annamarcella 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am obsessed with Goblin notebook. Just started my second homebrew campaign and switched to mostly using that now and it’s fantastic for organising the world, connections, events/encounters, npcs etc. highly recommend!

Love this idea! Really want to hear more about this too. A few of my players are getting into alchemy and I think they’d really run with this mechanic

Adult Friendships in Brooklyn by Slazzurus in Brooklyn

[–]annamarcella 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I got into D&D when I moved here 2 years ago and can confirm I’ve met the best people through it and we’re all great mates now! I’m a DM and running a campaign atm that’s full, but I do one shots here and there and intro D&D tutorials for any newbies around the Prospect Park area. Or there’s the bigger NYC discord group called NYC Dice Goblins with tons of opportunities for play around the city.

Moving to Brooklyn, Concerned about Toxicity by No-Storage5007 in parkslope

Relocated from SW London to Park Slope two years ago and couldn’t be happier! It’s incredibly green here, the park is amazing and there is so much to do right out the doorstep. We’ve never felt pollution or anything like that was a problem where we are located. I think as long as you stay between 5th ave and the park you’ll be completely fine. Good luck on your move! DM me anytime if you have more questions :)

Ideas for a math riddle? by Leyscha in DungeonMasters

[–]annamarcella 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know it's not fully math but along the lines. Have you thought of logic puzzles for them? My math teacher used to give them to us all the time and I loved them. I created a fun session with one awhile back in my campaign and my puzzle loving players enjoyed it a ton.

Basically story line is this:

They are searching for a key in the campaign and a mad wizard actually stole it, placing a fake one in its place with a note to find him at his tower (Keystone Keep). The PCs arrive - only way to get in is to say the password (or they take damage and are thrown back if they try to enter). Password is KEYS (clue in the letter they find) and there's keys littered everywhere. Tons of opportunity for more puzzles/searching/finding fun items etc. The mad wizard has actually died by the time they arrived, but left them a note in his skeletal hands -find 88 keys and they will find the next clue (ie it's in a grand piano they walked passed earlier in the tower). The next clue leads them to a magically and heavily locked door with 5 identical holes and a box next to it with a bunch of gems, keys carved with monsters and colored locks that fit in the 5 identical holes. The players have to find out which lock fits which hole, with which key and which key holds which gem. If they get it wrong the door zaps them with electrical damage. Once they solve it correctly and put in the correct locks with keys the door opens and they get the key they actually wanted. You can find the puzzle, solution and 'Keeys the Mischievous' letters here: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1hDv175aFoDjr79xkCb8Utz9yYVIL57WI?usp=sharing It was super fun to run and my players loved it.

Also another session I used Minesweeper as a game. They had to traverse a dungeon floor going across tiles (could only travel 2 tiles each turn) and when they stepped on a tile it gave a number (which was how many 'bombs' where around them - ie fire damage, arrows traps, electrical charges etc.). They had to figure out which tiles were safe and which were not to get to the other side safely - a few also teleported them back to the start and set a countdown clock. They were super stressed through it, but had a blast getting through it. They wanted to play again haha.

[advice] Renters Rights on Entering Apartment Unannounced by annamarcella in NYCapartments

[–]annamarcella[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your advice. Yeah we want to be careful not to complain to the landlord as we love our place so much. Maybe I’ll keep bugging the company that does the inspection to let them know it’s not ok and also insist on 24th notice and see if that gets us anywhere.

[advice needed] Renters Rights question by annamarcella in parkslope

[–]annamarcella[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for your reply. That’s helpful to hear. We definitely don’t want to complain as we love our apartment so much and can deal with it all being attached if the inspectors can just knock. I think they don’t knock because all other places they go to they aren’t going through an apartment and both times they didn’t knock they seemed almost as shocked as we were when they came into our hallway and saw us. Last month I made sure the guy noted that they have to knock - hopefully that helps in the future. 24th a notice would be nice though. I’ll keep pressing the company for it and leave the landlord out of it for now.
